What a shame. She was so good...and so undervalued. As with so many of her female colleagues who burned bright on SNL, her career seemed to fizzle after she left.
Yup, she was funny on Tush, and it was good to see her propelled onto the national scene on SNL. She had a lot of talent, and good timing and delivery. Her impersonations were as good as they come.
I guess I had stopped watching Designing Women (and most but a few other shows) by the time she was on, and I have only seen 30Rock on the occasional rerun...but I look forward to seeing her on there now..
i hadn't really heard of her, but i remember her from pee wee's big adventure. she taught us all that there's no basement in the alamo, ands she will be missed.
She had only a "recurring" role, (irregular) and played the white trash mother of diva Jenna Maroney, (played by Jane Krakowski). Hooks wasn't on every week, or even very often; she would appear every now and again for brief arcs of 2 shows or 3, bedeviling Jenna, exacerbating her daughter's neuroses and insecurities.

Didn't know who she was.
More Ebola patients.
A massacre of Kurds coming thanks to the Turks and Obama. A bigger deal to me. Around 400,000.
Missed the part when he calls her "Uncle Fester." Damn funny skit. RIP, PHil Hartman too, although he's been gone a long time.
Loved her as a Sweeney sister. Back when I watched snl faithfully.

Sad. I remember her on the Bill Tush show on WTCG (later TBS) in Atlanta in the '80's.
That's the bit I remember. She absolutely nailed Sinead O'Connor. RIP.
Her timing was impeccable and she was a mistress of dialect.
She did an SNL opening bit with Chuck Heston (and Hartman, of course) lampooning Oral Roberts' Prayer Tower that was a classic and a 5 minute scream.
A shame she didn't have more success.
She was also very funny on 30 Rock.
Over 30 years later, this clip still makes me laugh:

Too soon.

RIP Jan, way too young...thanks for the laughs.
She was survived by her four "wonderfully strapping young boys": Morgan, Mason, Matthew and Modine.
Julie- what did she play on 30 Rock? I think I have seen every episode but must have not recognized her.

A really talented woman who probably deserved more opportunities. RIP.

I never found her especially funny, but anytime a comedian dies is a moment we all do, a little,....
Jan Hooks - https://screen.yahoo.com/brenda-waitress-000000407.html
Brilliant.
Watch the clip Under rated. All the attention paid to talentless Gwyneth should be paid to women like Jan.
Really really sad about this. Wasted (by Hollywood, etc) talent.
RIP Jan.
she also did a great Hillary..Diane Sawyer...so sad
