I'm not really a dog person myself. If I had a dog, it would change the kind of person I am. I'd be talking to it all the time, treating it like a person. I don't have a use for a dog. People have dogs because they have a use for the dog, I'm pretty sure. Some people need a hunting dog or a ratter or a herding dog. Most Americans have dogs for companionship and love. I don't want any more companionship and love, not on a full-time, in the house basis.
Once the kids were out of the house I wasn't replacing them with animals. Animals restrict your freedom of movement and the ability to get up and go whenever the hippie surfer trail calls. The love is nice. Freedom from the responsibility is nicer. On surfari to stay...
Ann. You obviously like dogs, but have made a responsible, lifestyle choice to not take one into your home. I wish more people would give pet ownership such serious consideration. Yet, I am always wary of someone who says they don't like dogs.
Might have to give a little on the honest part, but intelligent Democrats do exist and can be hired. At least we could then hear if a rational argument could be made for the Democrats' position on whatever the subject at hand might be, and it would be more challenging to spot the fallacies.

My puppy has been biting the hell out of me. Apparently I have a use for scars up and down both arms. I look like a cross between "lost a bar fight" and "man whose puppy is teething."
I remember when Althouse called me "beta." Now I'm having that same damn conversation with my dog.
"I'm Alpha, damn it. Alpha. Do not bite Alpha. Alpha has spoken."

Ann: it's obvious that both you and Mead like dogs. Any reason you don't have your own?
...and it does suffice.

@surfed
Yes. Exactly. We put a high value on freedom and spontaneity, even though we mostly stay home.
I was under the impression that "neat" meant without ice.
@Tyrone
That was intentional. A conundrum.
As I often say, "I love other people's dogs."
p.s. wonderful picture and coloring
