"Given the size of these bones, which surpass any of the previously known giant animals, the new dinosaur is the largest animal known that walked on Earth."

"Its length, from its head to the tip of its tail, was 40m. Standing with its neck up, it was about 20m high - equal to a seven-storey building."

And may I add that the photo of the paleontologist lying on the ground posing with the half-excavated bone is very cute?

My inner seven-year-old is very excited. My outer fifty-seven-year old is pretty darned impressed. With that said, I can't think of many academic jobs I'd like less than being on a paleontology or archeology dig. More power to 'em.

Taking note of a "cute" paleontologist may prove to be a boner.

History is fun.

Big Lizards ruled the planet for 200,000,000 years. So they seem to have been a part of a sustainable life style.

But they were the egg layers like the birds, and they were stuck to the earth to become a meat supply for other lizards, and for those sneaky little varmints called the mammals.

Mammals started the male female dominance wars, and were the first to call the Breasty nursers of their babies "bitches."

These proud varmint mammals beat out those egg laying bird-like lizards, and to this day their battle cry is Eat Mor Chikin.

You'd think people would have noticed a beast this size 6000 years ago!

I am a little surprised that this dinosaur lived that late. I had thought the large sauropods had died out by this time due to cooling climate and lack of CO2 to fertilize the vegetation necessary to feed these guys.

Anyone wonder how these "reptiles" (e.g., poorly designed hearts) got blood up to the top floor, 70' up, and kept it there with enough pressure to keep their brains functioning? Even very small brains?

It's more evidence of global warming.

Imagine getting a breeding pair of those things on the Ark. The paleontologist should have estimated the size in cubits.

Not really.

After all just about 13 years ago liberals were telling us that fire couldn't melt steel.

The left also "missed" 100 million people being murdered in communist countries in just the last 100 years.

Back on topic, I'm with Hagar in total amazement at what the internal systems of these really big guys was like.

Good Lord.....We've discovered the primal ancestor of Michelle Obama.

Maybe this dinosaur didn't weigh that much. Maybe it just had big bones.

Too big to fail!!

How can this be! I thought "The Science Is Settled (TM)"!

What is your citation for that?

The fire at GM's Hydramatic plant decades ago showed very dramatically that fire indeed melts steel.

Laminated wood has had a much better U/L rating than steel for fire insurance purposes ever since.

Liberals are silly - the Bible makes it very clear that dinosaurs never existed.

I believe Rosie O'Donell, the leftie genius, famously said that fire had never before melted steel. This was her inciteful discovery that 9/11 was an inside job. Ss you know, most 9/11 deniers were/are left wing nutjobs.

LOL

I suggest you research the 9-11 conspiracy theorists and their "deep" "science-y" thoughts on why the WTC had to have been brought down by a series of controlled explosives.

I get a charge out of discoveries like this, but I wish they wouldn't keep using this phoney "meters" measurement, that makes me multiply everything by 3.3 to figure out that -- HOLY SHIT THAT'S A BIG MOTHER!

Does that mean we're only a couple or so discoveries away from finding a daikaiju? ;)
