“Time for some traffic problems in Fort Lee,” read the damning Aug. 13 email made public Wednesday — the political payback to the mayor of Fort Lee, N.J., for his refusal to endorse the GOP incumbent last year.Rush Limbaugh says:
The point of the story is that Christie will do payback. If you don't give him what he wants, he'll pay you back.... So now that is a story, and whatever the truth of it, I don't care. That's not my point. The point is the media has just glommed onto that like bees in a honeycomb so that they don't have to talk about the Gates book.

It didn't take long for Christie to go from blunt and refreshing to mean spirited bully. The Walker 2016 fans are not unhappy with this development.
P.S. I love that he used Obama's line that he just found out about this when he heard it on the news.
Somebody screwed up...this story wasn't supposed to be leaked until Aug 2016.....
Hey he's a Jersey guy. He'll make you an offer you can't refuse. Just like our capo de tutti capo in the White House. You do it his way--or the IRS, the EPA and the DOJ are going to land on you like a ton of bricks. So what? Same old same old.
Christie is handling this as it was done by an underling without his knowledge -- just like Obama did with the IRS scandal. The BIG difference is that Obama had the TOTAL support of the main stream media.
Watch how the media treats Christie!
I really get tired of the folks on the right getting all, "Yeah, well, look at how the MSM is gonna treat Christie cuz he's a Republican, and Obama TOTALLY gets away with the same shit!!!"
So the fuck what? You knew that going in. What? You expect a level playing field? "Fairness?" Seriously? I don't want to hear all this bitching and moaning anymore about the left and the MSM. That's baked into the cake, you morons. Get used to it.
Christie was a limp choice in any case to begin with. He's a New Jersey politician for crissakes! If he didn't butt-fuck the opposition for shits and giggles, I'd say there was something really wrong with the guy.
The key is not getting caught, and boy, did he get caught! 91 year old lady snuffs it because of that traffic jam? That does not look good. Christie has been screwing people left and right for awhile now. Let's see how he takes getting screwed.
Sounds like another argument for smaller government and more accountability.
Hopefully this makes more people in N.J. open their eyes and learn to distrust the government more.
But, by all means, let's give the government even more power.
Maybe people were right to criticize Christie for hugging Obama.
The Chicago rubbed-off on him.
Since the Super Bowl is in New Jersey, hopefully Christie's people get their act together with the traffic.
Yesterday, I said I wanted to see what Andrew Sullivan has to say about Robert Gates, the serious man who Sullivan previously touted as burnishing Obama's geopolitical 'cred'.
So far, the "Quote of the Day" below is all I've seen.
Quote For The Day II
JAN 8 2014 @ 3:27PM
“I was offended by [Obama's] suspicion that any of us would ever write about such sensitive matters,” - Robert Gates, in his tell-all book, Duty: Memoirs of a Secretary at War.
Beside implying that Gates is both disloyal and hypocritical, I suppose the passive-aggressive sneer of Sullivan's excerpt will just have to suffice while Andrew Sullivan redrafts his foreign policy narrative one more time.
So, how is this worse that what Obama did during the partial "shutdown"?
If Christie fires someone for this, we'll like that. If not, well, he's not as bad as Obama. Still not good, though.
Hopefully this will undermine his shot at the 2016 nomination.
Bill Gates wrote a book!
Cool.
I had not followed this until just now. Whoever was involved in this should be fired and never allowed to have a public sector job again. Furthermore, they should be charged with manslaughter if it is determined that the 91 year old woman could have been helped with a timely emergency response.
I generally like Christie. If he was involved in this, he too should (potentially) face criminal charges. This scandal is totally disgusting. I saw that Christie is being accused of fostering a hostile culture that would allow for this to happen. I believe that is a valid charge. He needs to get in front on this and proactively root out all who were involved.
Limbaugh needs to get his head out of his bottom. Seriously, Christie is just a big east coast Boss Tweed.
Chicago and Jersey, what's the difference?
Move to Texas and the South people.
PB Reader makes a great point. Think about.
What an idiot!
You're supposed to shut down national monuments. World War II memorials. Stuff like that.
Not bridges! The press loves bridges because Republican!
Next time shut down a military memorial out of spite. Then no one will care.
How does one spell schadenfreude? Another RINO bowling pin bites the dust. And a large one at that. Hopefully this will do him in politically. The left hates him. Conservatives hate him. RINO's, his only allies, are silent in his defense. Funny that.
Maybe he can invite the Bamster to walk the beach .. er bridge with him.
I don't see how this plays anywhere but in NJ or NY.
"I don't see how this plays anywhere but in NJ or NY. "
I think you're wrong here. The WSJ is playing it up. Lead story on Morning Rino this morning. Even had F. Chuck Todd (ahem, White House reporter) chiming in. The media will play whack-a-mole with any potential Hillary adversaries. Humpty Dumpty being the first.
Don't get me wrong, I think it shows the worst judgement possible in a politician. I hope *everyone* involved faces a costly trial. They should, at minimum, have to face the public they callously inconvenienced and endangered.
Will voters west of the Delaware River ultimately care? Only if this can be shown as a pattern that continues.
In order for there to be balance in the progressive universe, a republican has to at least appear to do something wrong in order to offset the multitude of wrongs done by a democrat. Balance has been restored. Whew!
Having said that, I never liked Christie very much so I'm not all that heartbroken over this.
If you don't give him what he wants, he'll pay you back....
Are we talking about Obama?
What we have here is grade B Lawlessness. In criminal secret orders the internal rules are enforced extra judicially. No lawyers and no judges, just Al Capone's way. See, Gangs of New York.
It is no wonder that Christie and Obama get along so well.
Chicago and Jersey, what's the difference?
Just more thuggish behavior endemic to the political class.
The Daleys of Chicago were renowned for throwing their weight around. Anyone remember this classic? See Wiki
"The issue is Daley's increasingly authoritarian style that brooks no disagreements, legal challenges, negotiations, compromise or any of that messy give-and-take normally associated with democratic government," the Chicago Tribune editorialized.[13][14] "The signature act of Richard Daley's 22 years in office was the midnight bulldozing of Meigs Field," according to Chicago Tribune columnist Eric Zorn.[15] "He ruined Meigs because he wanted to, because he could," columnist John Kass wrote of Daley in the Chicago Tribune.[16]
Thugs.
Madison Man - it would be local if it wasn't for the fact Dems think Christie will run in 2016 (and win the nomination - remember how Clinton was a shoe in for 2008?). Also, all the media located in NYC. Problem for them is the memories are short. 2016 is long away. I agree with Gahrie - this was meant to come out in October 2016.
If you want to talk about a 91yo woman dying because an ambulance took 7 minutes instead of 4, then I think you should blame Obama for people losing their healthcare thanks to their policies being canceled. Or how about, you know, Benghazi.
If I could count on Chris Christie to apply this sort of tactic, using the IRS, EPA, NLRB, and a bunch of other alphabet-soup agencies, for the purpose of making Progressives, Marxists and O-bots suffer during his two terms, I'd get on his bandwagon.
But he hugged and sucked up to Obama. Can't trust the dude.
Christie hugged (*touched*) Obama.
Ewwwwww! Unclean!
I don't know about "unclean".
Mean. National park closing mean, yes.
The Democratic Press is all over this. I was just across the street getting coffee, and it's CNN's only story, apparently (at least for the 5 minutes I was there).
So they are trying to make it stick to Christie.
I'll be interested to see how he reacts to it. My suggestion to him would be to take a meat cleaver to his assistants.
(Figuratively, of course).
Christie has to be wondering how Scott Walker skated by so easily after his aides got tossed in jail without any political repercussions.
All Christie had to do was give his aide a wink and a nod to go after the wayward mayor (personally) with the NJ Dept. of Revenue/Taxation. The national media wouldn't have touched this story with a 10 foot pole.
Fat & Furious
Too early in the cycle. Will fade by 2016. May stick, but one 'scandal' about a bridge closing isn't enough to destroy his chances. He may have a slow start to the actual election calendar, but that will probably be the only effect.
As MadMan says, if this becomes indicative of a pattern and there's a slow drip drip drip release of information, then he'll be fully compromised.
Fat and furious?
Not any more. Well, the furious part anyway. Contrite? Maybe not. Let's say a bit more humbled.
I am hoping it sinks him.
There was a news story this morning that the walk on the beach was orchestrated by New Jersey Fats. Vengeance towards Romney for not picking for him for VP, allegedly because of his weight. The Romney campaign was all about appearances. Being obese didn't work for them. I am not making this up.
The added insult was choosing a guy with 6-pack abs as VP.
Sounds like another argument for smaller government and more accountability.
Hopefully this makes more people in N.J. open their eyes and learn to distrust the government more.
But, by all means, let's give the government even more power.
Yeah, who wants a politically appointed committee to have all that power in their hands? I'm a little disgusted by this story, but mainly because I realize its politics as usual for most of the country.
Christy scheduled for 11:00am news conference.
Live
Ah, so as of now the media has done more vetting of Christie than it ever did to Obama.
Christy conference = smooth, tough, smart.
Truthful? He sounded truthful and sincere, but then who really knows.
Close to 2 hours with almost 1:15 hours of vetting.
Teleprompter? Must have been artfully hidden. I could not see it.
This may actually help Christie with the GOP primary electorate, it seems to me.
A poor choice for exercising your power when you want to graduate to the national stage. He didn't even need the endorsement that caused the punishment.
Maybe this is a sample of the vetting nightmare the Romney campaign alluded to.
Christie lied, people died.
