Yielding the floor.

Last night we cleared out the big room...

Except for the WiFi gear, which we relocated, makeshift style, on top of the old air conditioner. Some stuff went into the living room and the dining room, but the important part was the new temporary workspace, which we put in the sunroom...

So we're holed up in here while the old carpet is ripped out in preparation for a new floor. Zeus (and his bird) keep an eye on the progress:

Doesn't the glare from outside bother you when you're looking at the monitor? People where I work go stark crazy and hang up stuff to block outside (indirect) light from our big beautiful windows.

I used to not get it, but now it bothers me too.

If I put my computer in front of my office window, the outside light is intolerable. I have to shut the blinds. So I have the computer against a wall.

For some reason the windows at home don't have that effect on me, either in the back of the house (northern exposure) or here on the side (eastern exposure).

The windows in the back of the house are modern "low e" windows that have some kind of treatment. The windows on the side of the house are 90 years old.

I don't know what it is.

How well I know the inconvenience, but the new floor is worth the wait. It took my son (after work) almost a month to tear out the old carpet in the master bedroom and bath and replace it with a luxury vinyl floating floor.

But our floor is now incredibly beautiful, so my advice is to savor the anticipation.

Oooh, remodeling. So much fun.

This is a 3-day job, in a room that's about 500 square feet. The carpet had been there since I did a big renovation in 1992. It was the only room in the house with carpeting instead of wood floor, which made sense at the time because it's a step down from the rest of that floor. But I always wished it was wood floor. It's such a big deal moving everything and so forth, but it had declined in appearance lately, unlike me (with my anosmia), Meade detected smells. On one theory, removal of the carpet will restore my sense of smell. That would be nice!

I have noticed your purple walls in past pictures and am now taking the opportunity to say that I love them.

I replaced our carpet in the living room and dining room earlier this summer with wood, which now matches the kitchen and hallway. Although no one else in the family was in favor of this change - I did it anyway and I love it. I am the person that cleans those rooms - so I figured the decision was mine to make. And with a golden retriever and two cats, much cleaner than the carpeting.

I do have to ask - who dusts all those books? Piled / stacked and shelved?

Thanks. That's just in the sunroom. I love that color.

The books are going to get put away (or sold). The current disarray is from suddenly moving everything in from the other room.

Don't let them go home without turning off the radio.

Ha, Freeman! I remember you having that problem. Sorry.

This crew is great - polite, professional, and efficient. They play music while they work - 60's 70's pop-rock - but the volume is moderate and they twice asked if it bothered us. No, I said, but I wouldn't want you to leave it on over night.

Question, Professor... how often does that piano get a workout? Is there another side to you that you haven't shared? Are you a closet pianist or is Meade?
