I'm not sure of the breed--maybe they're Pekinese--but in NYC you see a lot of tiny dogs whose hair is trimmed so that they resemble tiny lions.....It's all fun and games until they start savagely licking your face.
It's nice not having to worry about the dog's boarding when taking vacations, they stay with the neighbors.

In the 1960s, the Springfield, Missouri Dickerson Park Zoo had a dog on display in a cage. The exhibit was honestly labeled "Dog". Of course, we were plain-spoken Midwesterners.
