I have never been to Wisconsin, but I have encountered many of this lakes in the environmental engineering literature, Mendota especially.
These lakes were important in developing our knowledge about eutrophication. One of the principals in this research was Clair N. Sawyer, a sanitary chemist originally at UW Madison and later at MIT. He authored many important papers in environmental engineering and science and advised a number of outstanding PhD students, most notably Perry McCarty (Stanford) and Ross McKinney (Kansas). UW Madison still has a fine environmental engineering program.
Paddle boarding a the Ichetucknee spings run in North Florida (just down the road a piece). It's a state park. Lots of these spring runs everywhere around here. No gators because alligators do not like gin clear water. Lotsa' people float down them on tubes. We paddle/surfboard them.
Here's a couple girls your age... Beautiful place. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OmPK0zqYSgQ
"So why were you paddeling over to hang out with Meade? Your sentence got cut off."
I have to work with the clips he gives me.
What I was talking about was: The sun was setting, and there were other people on the lake who had gotten together, apparently to watch the sunset. Instead of paddling around (or playing fetch with the dog), they were hanging out. There was one group of 4 young women who'd gone out on paddleboards and were just sitting together. There was a canoe with 2 people in it that was not moving. So it seemed like the thing was to stop the activity and watch the sunset. That turned out not to happen with me and Meade and Zeus!
