"Canadians ask what 'inspired by Al Qaeda ideology' means."

As Mounties say they've uncovered a pressure-cooker bomb plot by John Stewart Nuttall and Amanda Marie Korody of Surrey, B.C., who were "self-radicalized" but "inspired by al-Qaeda ideology."

Nuttall and Korody are said to be "recovering drug addicts and recent converts to Islam." Obviously, other Muslims in Canada aren't pleased to look connected to them. Musa Ismail, president of the B.C. Muslim Association, says:
"We don't know these people, we've never seen these people.... We are proud citizens, we are proud Canadians. These two individuals have nothing to do with Islam, as far as we know."

And while the entire B.C. Muslim community is "absolutely delighted" that Mounties intervened to stop a "potentially huge disaster," Ismail said the RCMP's description of the Canadian-born duo as inspired by Al-Qaeda is an "ill-worded reference" that will focus undue attention on Muslims.

"These are just individuals who copied whatever happened in Boston," he said.

Well, are the offended parties saying that AlQaeda = Islam? No, no, no - Islam = "Religion of Peace", get it straight, offended party! If the failed druggies had said their plot was inspired in a belief that the Koran and devotion to Allah, THEN the offended parties would have a case.

More "nothing to see here"?

Gun rights advocates had Hell to pay when a lunatic like Loughner shot people. As if it were ALL of out fault.

Muslims want to bomb people? CLEARLY, that is an isolated incident. No other option.

Naturally.

I just came off that, the comments devolved into which comes first, anarchist, converter, or bomber? There is a position for everyone.

In truth disaffected westerners are the west's problem more than theirs. But muslims would be smart to spend less time whining about the link between al-qaeda and Islam and more on tangible efforts to stop it.

When someone decides to kill people and you're more concerned about non-existent blowback than you are about the attempted murder you're not a moderate.

Probably just some local fisherman, out for a pleasure cruise. At night. Through eel-infested waters.

Moslems are always innocent.

It's those Mohammedans that cause all the trouble.

PS Surprised the Mounties were allowed to do something so politically incorrect.

I am getting so sick and tired of all those hotheads who go around insulting the prophet Mohammed!

It seems to me that the first question one always asks of a participant in whatever kind of an historical event is: Why did you do what you did?

If the answer is something along the lines of "Because I was controlled by Zeta waves from the planet Blaxon", then it's time to look to other reasons.

But barring obvious insanity, shouldn't we at least start with crediting a person's own reasons for his actions?

If all you are willing to do is complain when you are associated, unfairly or not, with some kook or evil-doer, then be prepared to keep complaining. Do you want some cheese with that whine? If the 99%+ of Muslims who are puported to be peace loving and otherwise great people, held that small fraction to account, perhaps this "unfairness" would finally end. Perhaps...

Muslims need to take ownership of "whatever happened in Boston," and acknowledging what it was that did happen, and who did it, and why is a minimal first step.

If the Canucks don't know what "inspired by Al Qaeda ideology" means, have 20 or so Moslems fly jet liners into several crowded skyscrapers in Toronto and Ottawa.

Even they will get it.

Gee, no matter how many muslims do this, they're never "connected to Islam". They're always outliers, never representatives. That is odd.

My favorite fake headline: "Muslim community worried about retribution for tomorrow's bombing."

Most worldwide surveys put the % who support violent jihad between 20 and 30%. Islam claims between 1B and 1.5B adherents, depending on who's lying to you at the moment, so you do the math.

The Mounties needed a high-profile law enforcement success to offset the public outrage over their bug gun (and probably television, jewelry and any loose cash left lying around)heist in High River, Alberta, last week.

Actually, that is what moderation looks like in Islam. An extremist Muslim is one that wants to kill you. A moderate Muslim is one that wants the extremist Muslim to kill you.

Robert Spencer of Jihadwatch refers to these terrorists as "misunderstanders" of Islam who inexplicably misunderstand Islam in the exact same way, regardless of their origin or circumstances.

About the only thing they all have in common is the Koran, the Sira, and the Hadith.

I recently listened to an audio by Sheik Anwar al Awlaki. He was quite
the devoted Muslim, fluent in Arabic despite his birth in NM, and extremely knowledgable about Islamic scriptures. So if he misunderstood Islam how can you explain that?
