"Fashion blog Ivy-Style.com posted an article today hypothetizing that four-term Republican North Carolina State Representative Bryan R. Holloway is the anonymous blogger..."

"... known as Richard, responsible for the much criticized WASP 101 fashion blog, widely excoriated around the internet for its frequent racist, sexist, and classist overtones (and for having bad fashion sense, too)."

Metafilter post (containing many useful links which I'm not taking the time to copy for you). From the comments:
I'm sure it's him, but this would be a pretty hilarious way to smear a politician. Cut the head out of some otherwise identifiable photos, start up an incredibly douchey fashion blog, and then delete it when people start sniffing around. I suppose this will be Holloway's line of defense: he's being smeared! No one will believe him, and rightly so. What a great way to smear someone.

Killing me, killing me softly with hypothetization.

But they can't back it up, right?

Just another Lefty lynch mob.

And I'm pretty sure that the author(s) of Ivy-Style.com rape children as young as 3 years old. That's my hypothesis and I'm sticking to it.

Racist, sexist and classist tones? Are those like earth-tones? Or is the Richard complaining about how fucking stupid black men are for hanging their pants off the bottom of their asses? Calling slut-wear slut-wear? (What the Hell happened to women's shoes? I'm not a fashion guy, and I'm not a foot fetishist, but I noticed about 15 years ago that women's shoes had become incredibly clunky and ugly.) Complaining about trashy fashions being trashy no matter how much they cost? No, that's not right. He must be complaining about poor people at Wal-Mart. Which I imagine the people at Ivy-Style.com folks do as well, so I'm not sure what that's supposed to be.

I frequent both Ivy-Style and WASP 101. I believe either representative Holloway or his wife ran the blog, it's down now. I didn't read all the text of Wasp 101 over the years, but I never took what was posted as anything but parody. A Walter Mitty like parody of the NE country club, fox hunt, Ralph Lauren advertisement type. Would anyone reading a blog called "Peppy Halls of WASP 101" think differently?

The term WASP, like troll and beta male, used to have a specific meaning.

Idiots glom on and it goes to shit because the strategy is to keep yammering until you're all yammered out because it feels good and maybe you'll get something more out of it.

I call it "healthing."

"Notice how Richard presumes to know what "best" means."

I wonder if everyone who does a "best of" is mocked for daring to think he/she knows what is best.

I never could tell what was racist or misogynistic about it, the complaints I read were too vague...except the ones about him being fat. Everyone knows that only ultra-slim people have any business writing about fashion.

AReasonableMan বলেছেন...

If you read the comments it is definitely him. A WASP version of Weiner's exhibitionism.

The comments at MetaFilter are hilarious.
Pretentious comments about a pretentious blog and all is jolly good fun.

So the left makes accusations without proof? Again? But the damage is now done isn't it. Scandalous.

You know... stop me if I don’t know what I'm talking about... ok, maybe I'm overdramatizing. But that’s kind of the point I want to make.

My question is... if you put a run on something, aren’t you driving up the price... artificially making it more valuable?

There used to be a saying… Why are you acting like you never seen –blank- before?

Doesn’t this stuff, going around looking for turds, ever get old?

Unless, what we are looking at is not turd, but somebody needs to call it that because….

The silencing of a fashion critic?

There's got to be some kind of irony there.

The evidence is all circumstantial, but fairly 'damning'.

If so, Holloway (unless it is truly satire) is pretty stupid.

From Richard's Glee post:

"If networks want to do a quality show about glee clubs, they should do one set in the 1940s on an Ivy League Campus. By displaying some authentic costumes and adding some drama with girls in plaid skirts and knee socks, myself and three others would certainly watch. Think about it networks, think about it!"

Myself and three others ... how is that not satire?

The amazing thing isn't the scandal, it's that anyone reads anything so tedious.

A guaranteed four viewers? MSNBC should jump right on this.

The metafilter comments keep referring to racist and misogynistic comments at WASP 101, but I could not find any links or specific items. The comments at Ivy-style hardly ever reference racist or misogynist comments at WASP 101. And the few that do area asking for proof that is never given.

Sounds like a hatchet job to me. Hopefully he can survive this.

effinayright বলেছেন...

My theory is that "Richard" is actually Zombie Mr. Blackwell, also named Richard.

Different targets, same misogynistic style.

Chip S. বলেছেন...

I tried about 5 of those worthless links at Metafilter and couldn't find evidence of anything other than that there's a surprisingly large number of people obsessed w/ some pasty white guy who mistakenly thinks pink sweaters look good on straight men.

Can't really see what the scandal is here. I'd wager that a third of the NC legislature dresses the same way. At least he wasn't wearing tassled loafers in any of the pix I saw.

McTriumph বলেছেন...

Pink is a manly color, you've never heard of 'officer pinks"?
Every well dressed man owns a pair of $650 Alden cordovan dress tassels for when captoes or long wings are too much and Weejuns are too little. FYI, you can get them at Brooks Brothers. Obviously, one would only wear tuxedo pumps with a tuxedo. ;-)
