So I started calling other groups and I thought I would file and create an organization, and here they were all getting targeted by the IRS, and I got scared....
"Send us your Facebook pages, your Twitter pages," and I said, "Does that include personal pages?" and they said, "Everything." They wanted to know your personal relationships with politicians and political parties. And I asked, "What would happen if I don't send this to you?" and they said, they made an insinuation like, "Look, it can be considered perjury if you omit things from the IRS." I'm a pregnant stay-at-home mother on one income, I thought, "Oh, my goodness, I'm not doing anything." I stopped.

Because all your thoughts belong to us.
Exactly as the OFA thugs want. The country is as you make it. Fight back.
Oh, no there was no effort to intimidate and chill the opposition. Nooooo.
You stopped. Mission accomplished.
Mission accomplished.
You stopped. Mission accomplished.
But it was just a couple of low level rogue agents who gave her this hellish experience. It would never be because of partisan motives. That's what the IRS said.why should we heleve a regular citizen against the IRS? The government never lies.
This is a good representation of the state of the conservative movement in the U.S. today. Instead of being engaged in the hard choices of politics it has decided to retreat into victimhood.

Given that OFA and the "charity" run by Obama's family member received no similar requests --- the "victim" was right to not do it.
Do you often blame victims for not wishing to be victimized?
She stopped. She stopped because her access to free speech and her access to the political process was snuffed out on purpose because the Obama administration and the willing progressives in the IRS made it stop.
This is what the Rush Limbaughing has brought to the conservative side. Self imposed marginalization though self claimed victimhood status. How ironic.

You'd think they could afford a better class of troll.
See this explains why they all went silent at about the same time. There was another article about a Catholic professor being intimidated into silence like that. I hope everyone of these people would come out with their stories.
Jay Retreat, we're all supposed to support each other's right to speak.
Thanks Jay. It is just absurd to think that a stay at home mom with a modest income and another little one on the way would be intimidated by the threat of perjury charges and six figure legal bills.
What was she thinking?
You sir are an idiot.
Jay, do you want to live in the kind of country where your political speech is stifled by the party in power?
Hmm. Interesting typo: "Jay Retreat". The "t" and "d" keys are far enough away that I know it wasn't a typo, but more of a neurological, muscle-memory thing. Probably says something about me.
But looking at it again, I'm thinking "Jay Retread" would better be called "Jay Reshod". Is that you, Jay?
Jay Retread - So you don't have any problem with the IRS shutting down free speech?
What does any of this have to do with Rush Limbaugh?
If only three were some widely accepted legal doctrine about the government abusing the threat of legal action to frighten people into abandoning their First Amendment rights...
Oh well. The President's righteously blazing anger sliced like an f'ing hammer and forced him to decisively ask a guy to resign a whole week or two ahead of schedule. And then the in-depth investigation uncovered those two roguish low-level staffers who independently controlled the nationwide auditing apparatus of the entire agency. Let's talk about actresses' boobs now.
Jay, do you want to live in the kind of country where your political speech is stifled by the party in power?
Of course not. He wants to live in a country where your political speech is stifled by the party in perpetual power.
Lets fully investigate it. I am all for that. But you are delusional to believe that it is going to lead to the outcome that the Obama Whitehouse was somehow using the IRS to supress his conservative opposition.
The great thing about when Republicans go off on these victimhood tangents is that they waste time and energy that would be more productively employed trying to make conservative ideas popular with American voters. But these fantasy romps into victimhood land also leads to conservatives feeling disappointed and rejected.
Let the fun continue!
You'd think they could afford a better class of troll.
Even though Retread is from the cut-out bin of internet trolls, he delivers quantity in place of quality- he can post his drivel under many different aliases. I wonder how many will comment today?
Small potatoes!
As a note: Whining about people claiming to be victims only works when they, uh, aren't actually victimized by powers so much greater than them.
Jay Retread: "Self imposed marginalization though self claimed victimhood status."
Shorter Jay: I'm perfectly happy with the levers of government being used to target my political enemies.
In a way, it is very instructive that the lefties are coming out of the woodwork to openly embrace that which we knew they supported all along and which they attempted to hide: They are at heart, as all leftists are, totalitarians.
Jay Retread is no different from the soviet bosses who took dissidents who wanted more freedom and threw them into insane asylums.
According to the soviet bosses (and many of their lackeys in the US), the USSR was a land of greater "freedom" than the US because of all that the government "provided".
Slavery is the "freedom" the left offers.
But no one was denied!/garage
Just a shocking coincidence I'm sure:
The director of the Office of Rulings and Agreements, which oversees the determinatons of tax-exempt organizations, is a donor to Barack Obama. Holly Paz donated $2,000 to Obama’s 2008 campaign, according to Open Secrets, which maintains a database of individual political donations.
Oh, and Lois Lerner is a Democrat too.
The picture's getting uglier and uglier.
Palladian: "Even though Retread is from the cut-out bin of internet trolls, he delivers quantity in place of quality- he can post his drivel under many different aliases. I wonder how many will comment today?"
He was here last night posting under another alias.
It's just another day in troll city.
Believe me, I full endorse Republicans continuing their victimhood parade. And so does Ann Althouse. Now go buy some toilet paper through her Amazon portal!
"But you are delusional to believe that it is going to lead to the outcome that the Obama Whitehouse was somehow using the IRS to supress his conservative opposition."
-- The White House? Maybe not. But the administration? It did. They admitted it; the IRS is part of the administration. The only question is who knew what when to determine the extent of the abuse.
Instead of being engaged in the hard choices of politics it has decided to retreat into victimhood.
The 2010 mid-terms argue against your point. Given the way things are going and the undoubtedly ham-fisted way this clueless White House will deal with them, it would be safe to assume that the "retreating victims" are going to hold the House and either take the Senate or come within a hair of doing so.
The last two years of your boy's term won't be any better than the first two. Worse, possible, as his Frankenlaw is finally fully brought to life and starts terrorizing the villagers.
It was intimidation and implied coercion under the full force and majesty of the U.S. Government backing the threat. Interesting that she accomplished more by telling her story which carried more weight than any organization could possibly have achieved. Good on her and patriotism. A pregnant mother with a child at home threatened with personal destruction by a rogue agency of the U.S. Government. Reminds me of the Chinese guy at Tiananmen Square who faced down the tanks.
The Tea Party will now be a huge force in 2014. All the suspended and rejected groups should immediately reapply and congress should insist that they all be approved. This is the way to use this crisis.
The legitimacy of the election of 2012 is fully in doubt.
When the Government is found to have suppressed your Constitutional Right to free speech, what are your options?
Does a Lawsuit work here? A class-action Lawsuit against the IRS? Or are they indemnified, somehow? (IANAL)
Every single Republican running for office in 2014 should be talking about this. Do you want the IRS to come after you because of your political beliefs? Because that is what has happened with Democrats in power in Washington.
retread: "Lets fully investigate it. I am all for that. But you are delusional to believe that it is going to lead to the outcome that the Obama Whitehouse was somehow using the IRS to supress his conservative opposition."
It has already established that suppression of conservative opposition occurred.
Now we are simply attempting to determine the full extent of it.
Some one could make an amusing video by overlaying Jay Retreads talking points over video of the dems retreating on this.
Here's what would be nice: public apologies by those who voted for Barry, either time.
Many of us are not surprised at all that things have come to this.
Why couldn't more people see it, and shouldn't those people really really be questioning their own ability to make sound judgments, going forward?
Why yes, yes they should.
David Hampton: " A pregnant mother with a child at home threatened with personal destruction by a rogue agency of the U.S. Government."
Easy David. That's exactly the kind of comment that gives the Jay Retreads of the world "tingles".
Still glad you voted for him?
96 Tea Party groups received extra scrutiny from the IRS, which leaves 202 other groups that received extra scrutiny. Does anyone know who they are?
Shouldn't we find out who other than the Tea Party might have been "targeted", and why?
Haha. Juuuuuuust kidding.

Come on Bob. You mean to tell me that you don't know better than that by now?
Fen's Law on steroids.
There was some tea party group that was held up for months. So they changed their name, adding the word Green to it, resubmitted and were approved within three weeks.
We can add statistical inference to the long list of things garage doesn't understand.
Not a surprise.
PLEASE! PRETTY PLEASE Republicans! Please make the 2014 elections about Bengazzi and some regional IRS office and any other fantasy issue that you can hype among your crazy wingnut base.
Lovin' it!
Brian Ross still has a job at ABC after breathlessly accusing a Tea Party member of murder.
It was 100% inaccurate and untrue.
(apology on page 34B, at the bottom, in fine print)
This is the future of media in America. An Army of Brian Ross hack.
Stop your whining and embrace the suck.
How is this NOT tyranny?
If there are any honest liberals left in this country, they need to start considering the consequences of what happens when the entire apparatus of government has been usurped to crush its political opposition. When the opposition has been disenfranchised and dispossessed of any political means to address grievances, what means are left?
Garage continues to triple and quadruple down on stupid.
He's at least a full day behind the story.
Not surprising.
It takes him that long to read up on his talking points prior to posting here.
If you want a running view into what was happening a day or longer ago, simply filter all postings to see garage's latest comments.
I'll be someone could gin up an app for that in about an hour.
"A harmful action against a person or group in response to a grievance, be it real or perceived."
Obama created a mindset that it was ok to do this... This is how "change" was may have been process in the harts and minds of people who have told by the democrats that the conservatives and republicans hate them.
I wouldn't be surprise if more systematic discriminant treatment is uncovered in other agencies throughout the government.
HA: "If there are any honest liberals left in this country..."
Full. Stop.
Chip S: "We can add statistical inference to the long list of things garage doesn't understand."
Well, in garages defense, he only took one or two basic math classes in high school.
I mean, let's face it, I doubt he was matriculating into AP-level courses!
LOL

Democrats' War on Women
GM,
apparently American Jewish organizations for one...
J.R. has not been following the case; it was not a regional office. There are reports of letters coming from multiple offices, and the Cincinnati Office is the -lead- office for these actions. It would be like saying Langley is a regional office for the CIA.

Notice how quickly the resident retard retreats back to "this is a fantasy issue" after pretending to want some sort of investigation.
And then there is this:
The watchdog who tracks the billions of taxpayer dollars spent to rebuild Afghanistan says government officials have tried to silence him because they think he's embarrassing the White House and Afghan President Hamid Karzai by pointing out the waste and fraud."

...because you know just how bad this is/going to get and don't want your nose rubbed in it too much?
2 core themes:
1. People died. Obama lied. Clinton lied. Rice lied. Over and over.
2. Obama and his supporters misused government agencies to punish political opponents.
I wonder if Eric Holder would consider this "unacceptable and shameful"?
I consider it surpassing the threshhold of high crimes and misdemeanors.
Thanks for your helpful insight, Retread.
Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh Rush Limbaugh! eeeeek!
Shanna, Just as you said. This is Garage's idea of no applications were rejected.
Just as true to say no applications were seriously considered.
Just returned from the mail box. I sent the Tea Party $100.
Occam's Razor:
In the end, the IRS managed to put its thumb on the political scale by squelching political activity on the right — some groups report curtailing get-out-the-vote efforts, spending piles of money on legal fees or disbanding altogether in the face of IRS inquisitions.
And all of it happened during a close and hotly contested presidential election where such mischievousness could make a real difference.
Does any of this sound like it’s the result of a random bureaucratic snafu or the work of a couple of “rogue agents”?
Democrats really do believe the entire country consists of their low information voter base (ex: Inga, garage, jay retard)

Commercials are already out.
Duh.
Let me add Congrats to Ann for figuring out how to cultivate a wingnut audience for herself and then figuring out how to milk them through her Amazon portal. You also seem to have found a good warehouse manager in Meade.
Do you have to pay taxes on your Amazon haul? Or are you exempt for free speech purposes? I will see if my Cincinnati IRS friends could look into this for you. No need to thank me.
I have tax troubles of my own making, but with all of these revelations coming out, I'm starting to wander.
My name is on tea party email lists along with my telephone number.
This is... I want to use words I'm 'not used to seeing in print'... but, in this case, its not like I'm used to having to explain the intimidation at filling out a DMV form or some such.
The IRS has the power to do serious harm.
Even though it is troll, how does this help to joke about this? What if down the road a conservative is elected President, I highly doubt you would want any of his/her supporters to be giving a hellish experience to anyone that is in disagreement with ideology.
This is horrible as a nation, I would rub it in on my progressive friends.
"Lets fully investigate it. I am all for that.
What do you think the IG report was about?

What part is redacted? The IRS routinely is supposed to redact personal information on citizens' tax information; was that the only part redacted?

Nothing like the victimhood you will crying about when the special prosecutors get to work. Are there enough jail cells available to house all of the Obamaites who will be prosecuted?

Anonymously, I hope. Why borrow trouble.
BTW -- Hope you're far away from the big fire up north. But I don't recall you being in Douglas Co.
Anonymously? Never. I'll stand by whatever I do. Got a problem with me? Come on over. Bring it.
I'm in Polk County. I mile north of St. Croix County.
My question to this woman is, "Ever read the Fourth Amendment? Not the one the Lefties use to justify abortion, not the one Louis Brandeis used to invent a 'right to privacy' out of whole cloth. I mean the real Fourth Amendment".

And there's shilol.
The next republican presidential candidate and next president isn't likely to be a nice guy like Romney or Bush.
Jay Retread better make sure his taxes are scrupulously correct and paid for. Depending on the statute of limitations there will be sixteen years of the Clinton's and Obama's criminality to investigate and prosecute. Garage ought to start contemplating life with a national right-to-work act that applies to both all civil service employees and private sector employees.
Non Tea Party groups that received scrutiny from the IRS are "statistics". Narcissist much?

Don't kid youself. No one will be prosecuted. We're all going to be treated to Obama's kubuki theater of outrage for a week or two. Then the press will announce it dealt with. Anyone pointing out it hasn't been dealt with will be labeled a crazy wingnut.
It's always been amazing to me that the left can be so inaccurately critical of the right but when proven wrong manage to reconstruct their original conclusion. When the right claimed affirmative action would lead to race preferences they were ridiculed. After it actually ocurred not one leftist ever revisited his claim that the charge proved the right was nuts. And the same for tobacco lawsuits leading to food lawsuits.
Literally no proof could ever move the left off their narrative. they simply interpret all evidence to support it.

Garage still can't understand there's a separate objection to being subjected to unfair scrutiny because of your political beliefs.
Well, either that or he believes the best method to defend the left is to make people wade through so many irrelevant accusations they give up trying to understand the matter.
We can also appreciate how Sebelius went around to the companies you has tremendous regulatory oversight and arbitrary decision-making control over to "politely" "request" some additional "donations" to help politic and get the word out for Obama-care.
Nothing to see there.
"Nice little business you've got there. Would you care to make a donation to our cause? No? Well...Ok. BTW, have I told you about my latest rulings and waiver decisions? You can also expect a "surprise" EPA visit. Also, whom have you been donating to?...etc etc...."
We can all see where this is going.
"Well, either that or he believes the best method to defend the left is to make people wade through so many irrelevant accusations they give up trying to understand the matter."
bingo
obfuscate, obfuscate, obfuscate..
This sort of thing has been going on for a long time. The Supreme Court, in NAACP v. Alabama in 1958 stopped the State of Alabama from doing the same thing the IRS is doing now, i.e. forcing disclosure of outrageous amounts of information, including membership lists.
Garage still can't understand there's a separate objection to being subjected to unfair scrutiny because of your political beliefs.
So there is "fair" and "unfair" scrutiny?
If you can't understand that, this is what makes a good Democrat.
In his statement last night Obama said the IRS’s actions were “...inexcusable and Americans are right to be angry about it and I’m angry about it.”
At least he didn't say that he was "Shocked! Shocked! to learn that these things were going on."
garage mahal said...
So there is "fair" and "unfair" scrutiny?
Shockingly garage attempts to deflect again. The question is not whether fair scrutiny exists, but whether the scrutiny is initiated because of the organization's political beliefs.
At some point ignorance can be overcome. How many obfuscation attempts are required before the ignorant versus propagandist question is settled?
This IS tyranny. The progressives had better hope that a republican doesn't become president next. Just think, Media Matters, Planned parenthood, acorn...looks like your next....

Supposedly, he wants to "go Bulworth".
We've had nothing but bulworth for 5 years.
ALERT!!! WAKE UP, CITIZENS!!!
The IRS is a heavily Democratic organization. Given the facts on the table at this moment, why would you presume that individuals received a less partisan treatment than Tea Party organizations? I will be writing my Congressman to request an investigation of individual audits in my District from 2009 to present. The selections should track the party affiliations of the district. Who here is willing to guarantee that they will?
Wendybar - it IS tyranny. A typical Republican President goes along with the status quo relative to Federal Agencies. I want a Republican President that uses executive orders to fire EVERYONE in the Federal bureaucracy outside of the military and replace them all with regular citizens who will serve for a time, then return to their normal jobs. No more lifers!!
Don't kid youself. No one will be prosecuted. We're all going to be treated to Obama's kubuki theater of outrage for a week or two. Then the press will announce it dealt with. Anyone pointing out it hasn't been dealt with will be labeled a crazy wingnut.
No Marshall. It won't happen on this watch but the next presidential republican candidate can campaign and win with this. And if he wins he or she will have a mandate to do it.
So there is "fair" and "unfair" scrutiny?
Um, yes, Garage, that would be the point of the discussion. Scrutiny is fair when it is neutrally directed at the same standards for every group. Scrutiny is unfair when -- as the IRS has admitted happened here -- higher standards are applied to some groups because of their political orientation. Try to keep up.
Non Tea Party groups that received scrutiny from the IRS are "statistics". Narcissist much?
garage, I've thought long and hard about this. Your Delta Tau Althouse name is... Flounder.

Thoughts, books, contacts, websites, that's all ok, but and ID is crossing the line.
Oh, wait they did show their ID and their app was put in the "we'll get to it sometime" file.
If only voting worked like that?
garage, I am still dumbfounded that you are trying to defend the IRS for acts that the AGENCY ITSELF characterizes as inappropriate use of power for political ends.
Sometimes you have a principled point. This is not one of those times.
Um, yes, Garage, that would be the point of the discussion.
Allow me to extend my compliments to those of you taking the time to debate him. You all must be elementary school teachers with the patience of Job. I attempted some time ago and found that I would not he cut out as a third grade teacher.

Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through life son.
Colonel Angus, you are quite right. At this point I think the answer to the TV question whether we are smarter than a Fourth Grader is whether we have figured out that it's time to stop trying to have an intelligent discussion with Garage, and I just said so in a newer thread.
garage - if there is NO scandal then why is there a scandal?
MadisonMan,
Every single Republican running for office in 2014 should be talking about this. Do you want the IRS to come after you because of your political beliefs? Because that is what has happened with Democrats in power in Washington.
And those same partisan Democrat "civil servants" will continue to do so with Republicans in power, because Republicans don't have enough backbone to clean house.
Sometimes I think garage mahal is really just pulling our leg in an extremely-long-running performance art exercise in which he attempts to excuse anything a Democrat does, no matter how vile or how ridiculous the justification.
The alternative is that he really is that stupid and/or evil. Either of the latter possibilities frightens me.
"Progressivism" ALWAYS degenerates into tyranny, because it is a narcissistic attempt to force people to conform to its utopian theories. It is amazing how eager too many of us are to pretend otherwise. The Dems are STILL the party of the plantation owners.
There seems a lack of imagination here. The government might be much worse, much more poised to destroy individuality, than we have thus far thought possible. I am guilty of this lack of imagination.
Suppose that the government is controlled by ideological partisans with no scruples. They will stop at nothing to achieve their goals. They are smart and crafty, though; they stop short of doing things that will uncover their strategy. They know most people are stupid and ill-informed, and they use that to their advantage.
If such a government existed, what behaviors would we expect from the people who govern?
Would they deploy the IRS to suppress conservatives and Jews?
Would they lie about foreign policy fiascos in order to win elections?
Would they blackmail corporations to gain financial and political power?
Would they use tools like lack of knowledge, admission that government is difficult, and anonymous, undocumented recusal to hide their crimes and extend their power?
Yes, they would do these things. The Soviets did them; Nixon did them; all corrupt governments do them. Obama and crew are doing them.
@Nathan,
I'm going with stupid.
Would they reward cronies with money extorted from the citizenry?
Would they lie about the nature of their enemies?
Nathan Alexander,
Garage (Albert Einstein was a product of the American educational system) really is that stupid.
"The alternative is that he really is that stupid and/or evil. Either of the latter possibilities frightens me."
He is your garden variety Wisconsin lefty. Fat, ignorant, jealous of his betters, and meticulously goes out of his way to avoid facts that intrude on the narrative he gets from the liberal internet hive mind.
The only thing that seperates him from the rest of the libtard herd is that he had a wife who left him and took his daughter with her.
You see, many of the pale white fat uneducated wisconsin lefties never reproduce.
President-Mom-Jeans, you lack imagination, but you have prejudice in abundance. Maybe garage mahal is actually Barack Obama. Thin, black, etc. Got his daughters close by.
Well Bob, if Althouse hadn't commented on his overweight physical status and if he hadn't posted a picture of himself alongside the Westboro Baptists, I would be more open minded.
Also, his paleness is confirmed by his lack of education, as he was not able to benefit from affirmative action, not even in an Elizabeth Warren type of way.
If he was Obama, he would type "let me be clear" and "the fact of the matter" preceding more of his lies.
No word on whether the poor woman who fled him bears any phyiscal resemblance to First Lady Camacho however.
Jay Retread blames rape victims, too.
This is what happens when you let obama train for swimming the atlantic by wearing msm provided water wings. When it comes to difficulty out in there the choppy sea he's sinking like a stone. His best defense so far is he's incompetant and didn't know what his administration was doing on all 3 scandals. How long is that going to play?
