"Trayvon Martin targets were not for target practice but were a 'no-shoot training tool'..."

"... says the Florida cop who was fired Friday for showing them to colleagues."

It's the tripwire nation.

You can't have too many tripwires.

Yeah that's bullshiate.

And self-serving bullshiate at that.

Yes the cops need realistic perp targets- old, white grandmothers who are notorious for their propensity to mug and burgle.

Somewhere, Heinrich Muller and Lavrenti Beria smile and shake hands.

The targets were of figures in hoodies. They weren't clearly male or black. The easily offended getting their dander up doesn't make the targets Trayvon Martin stand-ins. But it is true that hoodies are favored by our young black street scholars. Why shouldn't they be models for targets as much as white grannies? And yes, there gave been targets that portray white grannies.

All of this is so much crap.

On the general subject, Police need to be shown targets (and non-targets) that challenge their stereotypes.

Little white Granny's holding a pistol (think Beradine Dohrn) and black kids holding his black wallet.

The challenge for the cop is to understand what is being presented and make the right decision fast enough.

If that's really their purpose, then put a cop on the target.

I think shooting the hoodie will save your life more often than refusing to.

And why are they even fashionable. They fit badly, always look sloppy, get dirty fast, soak up the rain like a sponge, and seem to suck bullets right out of passing guns like some kind of lead attracting death magnet.

Surely you jest, sir.

A catch 22 for the police.

If they say it is a profile of a criminal teenager needing to be shot, that adds truth to the Martin family's fears that the police are out to get their sons.

If they say it is a profile of an innocent teenager that just looks like a criminal teenager and should not be shot, that adds truth to the Martin family's fears that the whole community is out to get their sons.

I assume you mean Bill Belichick, and there are plenty of people who think he should be shot on sight.

I dont know if the cop is lying or not, but posters like that are exactly what are used in shoot/dont shoot training. Including posters of old ladies and cops. Ignorance has never been a bar against expressing an uniformed opinion though.
