"While they remembered her sincere Christian beliefs, some wondered whether Victoria Jackson, Tea Partier, was some sort of Andy Kaufman-style performance art."

"'A lot of people in show business think I’ll pull off my mask and say, "Ha-ha! I tricked you! Of course I won’t be a stupid conservative Christian,"' says Jackson."
“She seems to take it seriously while not taking it that seriously,” says Sweeney Blum. “She clearly likes the laughs and she likes getting the laughs enough that she doesn’t mind being laughed at, while at the same time, she truly seems to like the things she’s saying. Every time I have an encounter with Victoria, I have so much thinking to do afterwards.”

However, I notice that no one asks the question of whether the proposed Liberal/Progressive solution to health care problems will actually increase the availability of health care service.

Insurance is not service.

And government functionaries making sure that hospital clerks fill out the forms properly doesn't always change the quality or availability of medical services from the doctors employed by those hospitals.

But both people on that conversation were members of the entertainment industry. People not usually thought of as deep thinkers.

Which makes me wonder: why does anyone pay attention to their opinions?

Ms. Jackson, in the parts she plays and apparently in real life, is sweet, full of life and love. So she can't really believe all those "hateful" things she says. That is the liberal line of reason and it makes a lot of sense. Except for one problem: Victoria does does believe what she says.

I would like to invite those who are stuck on this conundrum to imagine something--just try, it won't kill you.

There are lots of people who find what she says perfectly reasonable. And no. They don't care what "their betters" think of them, just as you do not care what they think of you.

What you have done here, Robert, is essentially to pull the lefty trick of false consciousness on a mass scale here.

North Korea, China, & Cuba call themselves communist regimes. All are in one way or another, threats to the US.

The Salafist movements are all Islamic. They call themselves Islamic. Their fellow Muslims who are not Salafist do not say they are heretics, but that they are too extreme.

But you, you decide, based on criteria you have pulled out of your ass, to redefine language and claim that whatever these folks may call themselves, well, you know better.

You know what? Conservatives really are better at listening., because, by golly, when their opponents call themselves Muslims or Commies, they actually believe them.

Victoria says, ‘Well, if people died sooner, people will go to Heaven sooner.’

Well, regardless of the merits and demerits of the above point of view, it's not my sense that Christians in general wish, or think they should wish, that people would just die sooner — but beyond that, it's abiblical. The New Testament clearly states that Christian dead will sleep until the sounding of the horn of judgment (e.g., 1 Thessalonians 5:14-17).
