"In addition to striking himself with a rock... [Kyle] Wood also admitted..."

"...  that he struck his head on a mirror at his apartment and ran into a doorknob. He said he was the only one who knew that the attack was made up."

Obstruction charges filed against a Madison Republican campaign volunteer. Previously discussed here.

I personally think that any time "hate crime" charges are filed with the police, that the investigation should automatically go in two directions: one in the direction of a legitimate crime, and the other in the direction of fraud by the so-called "victim." There's just too many of these frauds being committed.

I'm inclined to agree with Bob.

In any event, I'm glad to see that this guy is being prosecuted for his little stunt.

Automatic_Wing said...

He certainly deserves to be prosecuted, but would he have been if he had committed the "right kind of hoax"?

Crystal Gayle Mangum was never prosecuted for what she did to those lacrosse players.

Amartel said...

Is the charge a false police report? He doesn't seem to have accused a particular person of the attack. I'm fine with a charge for making a false police report. I'm really uncomfortable with the "hate crime" scenario since it criminalizes thought and because it's selectively enforced. Certain types of hate are acceptable, obviously.

A grown-ass man. Does he have a family? I'll bet they feel humiliated.

He doesn't seem like a Republican to me, that is the kind of thing liberals do.

KCFleming said...

He seems to have done a lobotomy.

edutcher said...

Lessee now, the Lefties can breathe easy because he's Republican; the righties because he's homosexual.

Win-win?

He's a gay Republican in Madison.

Enough said. Say no more, wink, wink.

I thought this was going to be about Sean Kedzie. There were some doubts about that one too.

Madison. What a weird town.

A few more self-inflicted whacks on the head with a rock and he'll become a life long Democrat.

Tim said...

Geezus.

I don't care what party one belongs to, but this kind of stunt isn't only stupid, it harms the perp's goals.

Stupid people, everywhere.

Yeah, he should be prosecuted (and yes, no doubt the threshold for prosecution would be higher for a Democrat), but it's an open question if he'll learn anything from this.

Make him do community service of some kind.

This is what happens when political power becomes the be-all and end-all, as it is for many junkies. That description (junkies) is apt, since it's a form of addiction that can destroy a person. As it has done to this pathetic fellow.

For someone to harm themselves in such a manner, you would think a psych eval would be ordered by the judge.

DADvocate said...

This is obviously a plot to discredit the Republican Party. A sock puppet fakes being a Republican and fakes an attack on himself. Then he recants, making the Republican Party look bad. Clever, but I see right through it.

A more believable story would have been, thus...

Upon being elected Senator of a blue north eastern state, a big donor, with interest on federal contracts you could push, would lavish you with private plane trips, to a country, that, just so happens to have legal prostitution.
And, once your political enemies got wind of it, they, themselves go and interview the prostitute. Who, is alleged to be underage, and, once she confirms the senators liaisons and adds that he did not paid her as promised, the story breaks.
But the senator, not one to sit on his laurels, somehow manages to pull the chestnuts out of the fire, by getting the alleged underage prostitute to recant the liason.
The would be dead duck senator, is now turning the tables on the people that broke the story, accusing them of paying the alleged underage prostitute, to concoct a story of paid underage pleasure.

Madison gay republican?... more like Rank Amateur.

This is how George Zimmerman fooled the police.

Of course, I'm kidding, but someone, somewhere will attempt to advance this theory.

I guess he was trying to put more rocks in his head.

Sad story. The guy should be charged, probated, helped and then left alone.

If he can keep away from politics, then politics should stay away from him.

If he goes back into the fray, he becomes a legitimate target again, under today's rules of the game.

Let's see if the lefties can let this guy rebuild his reputation in peace.

Wanna bet on it?

How do you punish someone who already hurt himself far more than the law will for the crime he committed. If anyone in particular was defamed, then monetary damages are in order in a civil suit, but if he kicked his own ass, we should just laugh at him, and hope he never calls in a bomb threat.

rcocean said...

I knew it was false the minute I read his story. Only the KKK operates that way.

Based on the charades in Madison the last few years (including the Wisconsin Supreme Court) that our hostess has shown us in some detail, this is completely in bounds. Hardly rises to interesting.

Mercy is one thing - I'd respect a call for mercy. But he intended to hurt someone personally and hurt them badly. And he wanted to cheat the system. I disagree that he deserves a pass.

I hate to say it but political campaigns attract "interesting" volunteers.

I think all the sane people are employed or something.

(Okay... the occasional "interesting" volunteer... and a whole lot of sane people *aren't* employed...)

I'd go for "false arrest" and funds expended on the investigation... man hours... that sort of thing.

So Inga, is that a mug shot or were you in a gypsy band?

Anonymous said...

Mug shot.

Unknown said...

I'm not sure it's purposeful, but it does seem to favor the left when everything is questioned.
If people automatically suspect every rape, assault, gun crime (heck, any crime) might be fake then you are placed in a position where the people with the most powerful voices get to define the crime.

Cry Wolf for the good of the masses!

edutcher says -

Actually, I just exhale in disgust at senselessness of it all. Then again, we of the conservative bent know full well that our ilk is incapable of such idiocy. So he may be gay, he may be Republican, but he ain't right.

AllenS said...

Over and over again, we see this bullshit hate crime nonsense. Get rid of the concept. A crime should be a crime, and nothing more.

Incidents like this probably would be smaller in number, if there was no such thing as a hate crime.

His main mistake was not employing Rev. Al Sharpton.

So can we finally do away with hate crimes legislation? I mean if a republican can fake his own ass kicking and attribute it to a hate crime because he was a homosexual who didn't support another homosexual, then what do we need it for? Is this how republicans gay bash?
