I have found the very best way to have a dog is to be friends with people who have a great dog (also works with cottages and boats).
I am always a bit thrown when I see these pictures and you are in my family member's neighborhood. When I visit the area I am oddly on the alert for you two kind of hoping I could see you walking and say hello!
It's time to starting attaching a small keg of brandy to her collar...for emergencies. Find linked St Bernard kegs. http://www.barrelsonline.com/ShowProduct.aspx?ID=52&AspxAutoDetectCookieSupport=1
I love big dogs but I'm to the point where I see one and all I think of is how much they eat and how big the poops are.
I used to really hate tiny dogs but now I think about buying *little* bags of dog food and tiny poops and I don't care at all that they're all brain damaged pseudo-rats.
Dogs are the descendants of tamer wolves who hung around human settlements. We eventually domesticated them and continued to breed out the more aggressive traits until they've become golden retrievers. Modern pet dogs are a totally man-made creation.
We aren't big dog people either. So we settled on two beagles (a boy and a girl). They are the 13-inch ones, and weigh about 22 - 24 pounds each. Perfect for our family and our modestly-sized house! They do bay quite a bit though.

I happen to know that these pictures are carefully photo shopped to give the impression that Ann and Meade walk freely about Madison when in fact, having staked out their abode I can assure you they always travel incognito. Meade especially is the master of disguise sometimes actually appearing as the dog in the picture.
My Mother-in-Law had a succession of Saint Bernards. All incredibly loveable, gentle with the children, prone to hind leg arthritis and in the summer an absolute mess of smelly saliva. When they shake their heads spit strings like you wouldn't believe go everywhere.
I'm with you Synova. We used to have big dogs, but the older we get the smaller our dogs. Our 22#cocker/poodle mix is just the right size. Not so small as to be delicate, but easy to bring in the car, doesnt take too much room on our bed, and yes, small poops!

Abby's a sweetie.
And it looks like it's already warming up there, if that first shot is any indication.
I have a 10 pound poodle. That's a LOT more dog (at only 10 weeks!) than I am used to. Beautiful!
A good dog reconnects me to the steady and good earth after thinking way too much about slippery words.
I don't know how OT this is since posts like this are semi-cafe (bistro?), but Hugo's last words, "I don't want to die. Please don't let me die".
One of his cohorts says it's because he loved his country, but it sounds like he knew what was waiting for him.
16 weeks and 60 lbs.
Sorry I had 10 pounds in the post originally.
I mean 10 weeks!
I notice that hardly anyone leans IN to a doggy kiss.

Because you end up with a tongue up your nostril.

(Abby is completely adorable.)
Looks like someone's not in compliance with Madison's snow removal regulations.

Zeus did all the work and then Abby gets to walk on the sidewalk.
One day I can tell my grandkids i looked a half a block down the street from my office and saw Rand Paul campaigning for Senate on the UK campus.
I didn't see him that day, but I can say it to my grandkids.
He may turn into something yet.
Getting lovies and kisses from a Saint always used to feel like wrestling three rounds. But Major weighed 220 not 60.And he was always ready to play.
Lucky neighbor.She's a cutie.
Daisy the beagle is staying with us a few days. the 2 year old flame tip siamese chased her into the closet last night.

The negative with the smaller dogs is bad breath. That can make dog kisses the equivalent of licking five day old fish wrap.
That Abby is a cutie-pie!
There is something very fitting about a St Bernard and Snow.
I agree about the keg though. If nothing more than for pics. Think about how many stupid things people use to dress their dawgs
That last picture cracks me up- almost looks like Althouse's head photoshopped on a Oompa-loompa's body.
Didn't you have a tag for animals we think are cute b/c they have dark skin/fur around their eyes? Like pandas.
Also, when are you gonna post some pics with the medicine canister around the dog's neck?

A Yorkie puppy's breath will melt steel.
A new study has found that caffeine in nectar encourages honeybees to remember the scent and come back for more.
The nectar of coffee and citrus flowers tends to contain caffeine, the researchers discovered.
That dog is so cute she doesn't even look real.
She is a cutiepie.
And the dog ain't too bad either.

Amazing what falling in love with someone "other" does for our choices.
Unforseen bennies of creating Meadehouse.

What an absolutely beautiful dog! I'd be very jealous of her owners, if it wasn't for the tumbleweeds of hair I'm sure they deal with.
But gorgeous all the same!

I seem to be filled with one word comments today.
