I don't care about Sean Penn. He loves Chavez. That's all you need to know about him.
Actors and actresses in general are flawed individuals, and yet their opinions are given reverence - it is not a good thing for our society, the Entertainment Tonight-ization of the electorate, the dumbing down, and the shallowness that comes with it.
Even Barabara Walters, who could once have been considered as a serious person, has been reduced to the shallow bitch role.
Well, that last statement probably has a lot of truth to it.

Penn's work in Haiti is amazing though, he walks the walk.
I don't know if Sean Penn has ever been loved, but I know for a fact that he has been hated. Quite a bit.

We have a way of interpreting the past through the lens of our present, even going so far as to think our present experience actually determines the past.
This is, I think, especially true in romance and sexuality. We protect our perceived vulnerability and brokenness by asserting what we now experience was always the true and deeper reality.
In effect, we throw our past selves under the bus, but the ego has to do what it has to do to protect the present self.

You've got to give him credit for phrasing that in terms of his own feelings and his present perspective.
He doesn't assert what he doesn't know. He doesn't say Madonna/Robin Wright never loved him.

That's because his stand-ins have worked with professional film crews to block everything out for him before hand. He just has to show up, hit his marks and make concern face on-camera.
And he never once thought.... "What was I doing to treat her that way?" And wonders if he has ever loved?
This might be an interesting topic, but not with such an idiot as the hook. Seriously, glorifying a man who set freedom in his country back 100 years? Spicoli's ability to think is so compromised how could we value any observation he might make?

Mystic River was a good movie.
Is it admirable that he expresses this in terms of his feelings? He feels that he's never been loved isn't claiming to know that his "loves" didn't love him? But that's what "this person wasn't invested that way" means, right? They weren't emotionally invested in him.
I would suppose that there are cases where the fault in a divorce is completely one sided... the other person was abusive or unfaithful. But in general terms, in relationships, who's innocent? Even in marriages that don't break up, who blames the other person for failing to love properly? Don't you ask yourself, have *I* been loving that person and making sure he feels loved?
Love is an un-sustainable chemical imbalance.
After all the squishiness wears off, then you realize that you can either accept the responsibility, or pay for a release.
