Well, the 12 year old American Eskimo dog we inherited last has been great. Sitting at my feet as I type. Well behaved, house broken and, most importantly living in the woods, doesn't run off.

The only downside - it sheds massively.

"last week"

Ruby, Heidi, Sylvia.

Zeus has become quite the ladies' man.

Just like Sherlock, who loves to run with the big dogs.

Interesting to observe spazzy dogs next to noble dogs. See a similar thing with groups of kids through the museum.

But sorry, dogs, no, you cannot have my pie. NO!

Meade ayon kay ...

Humperdink, let me recommend: a Meile.

Problem solved. Canine bliss attained.

ps: I installed one of THESE today. So I can return Zeus cleaner than I found him.

Pastry cloth and rolling pin cover. Whole 'nuther ballgame. That's what Toni Decker said. She said my pie crust is crap and I go I know but what am I to do? and she goes start by throwing that away. Harsh. But factual.

Meade ayon kay ...

I'm afraid she's right, Chip. I mean, 100% Cotton - true. But does it have an active HEPA filter? You and I both know rolling pins can kick up aLOT of dust, my friend.

While driving through Madison yesterday, I saw a guy who looked nothing like Meade walking a dog who definitely wasn't Zeus.

(had to work a few hours at the Epic Wind Farm on the north side of town before going to Verona to work at the Epic complex.)

Thanks, Chip... now I'm going to have pastry pop-ups in the side bar for clicking on that.

The secret to good crust is lard...

Some poodles are the noblest.

Noblest and practically dustless.

Likedustless Black Pepper.

Some Dobermanns are also the noblest.

Doberpeople.

Thanks for tip Meade. I thought at first it was a dog breed.

The best dog I ever owned was a Norwegian Elkhound. Surly looking, but meek as a mouse. Ferocious bark. Occasionally the breed is used as a sled dog, so I would have it pull me while on my bicycle. Great fun ... and the dog loved it too. Neighbors thought I was crazy.

Meade ayon kay ...

Sorry, Hump, but your neighbors are right - you ARE crazy.

Switch to roller blades.

Irene ayon kay ...

That Dustless Black Pepper post was pretty funny. Pre-2009!

Sometimes on my trip across town I go past the local dog park. Some days, after I am past the park, for the next 1/2 to 1 mile I meet oncoming cars with happy looking dogs hanging out the windows on the side of the car facing the park. It's like they can smell the park a mile away, or else they know landmarks or something.

And, Irene, as I think you know - my first dog was a poodle. Named "Pepper"

Ah. What a perfect spot to tuck in and write a long "letter to the editor."

Your Justin Bieber testicles post was pre-CT. Thoughts now about media self-censorship (or gov't imposed limits) and glorification of villains? (Note: the CT shooter is dead). The nanny's knee-jerk cries for media censorship -- and she's bipartisan, per my Twitter feed -- warrant serious and prolonged scrutiny and debate.

This article --

http://www.forbes.com/sites/josephgrenny/2012/12/13/the-media-is-an-accomplice-in-public-shootings-a-call-for-a-stephen-king-law/ --

brought to mind the Fort Hood shooting and the media's reporting. Remember that? I'd say to imagine what media censorship would have looked like in that instance, but you don't have to. It was a terrorist act by an Islamist, but the media (and Obama) morphed Hasan's massacre into "stressed-out military doctor commits work-place violence."

http://www.redstate.com/2012/10/21/fort-hood-shooting-still-not-terrorism/

Some people are reprobate lunatics (to use a biblical adjective and a now verboten noun). Nothing -- not a video or a press story, nor a burned Koran -- excuses their violence. It is plain evil. Blaming the media for a free man's murdering rampage shields and "explains" him. Repressing the media will bring more of the same.

Let the whole marketplace will out in the realm of "irresponsible" reporting. If it's not all of us voting thumbs up or thumbs down, who would you appoint as your lifetime censor proxy?

The "low-info" rubber-neckers may win, to be sure. You can't fight the bell curve. But if we demand (and accept) media censorship, we can't fight a false narrative, either, or -- more importantly -- evil.

Is Dulcina Spanish for "Sweetie"? Or since it's Barcelona, would she be required to change it to whatever the Catalan version might be if Catalonia secedes from Spain?

Chip Ahoy ayon kay ...

Little sweetie, Dulcina Dulcita Dulcililita the diminutives keep going. That was a funny bit in I Claudius, I thought, where the female side kept having diminutive tacked on down to the granddaughters and great granddaughters and even great great granddaughters but the viciousness never slackened.

Olson Johnson is right! ayon kay ...

Chip Ahoy said... the female side kept having diminutive tacked on..etc

I wondered about that too, since the women of patrician Rome were only known by their clan name- and of course with all the duplications they must have had nicknames? something to differentiate from all those Claudia, and Livilas. (Liviia ? maybe Livilliaturum ?) cripes I need a Latin grammar book.

and bet ya Althouse will pop in and tell me that there are several delightful Latin grammar books to be found at that pleasant shopping location known as Amazon.

Why not make "Shop Amazon" the blog's title? Then you wouldn't have to keep reminding us.

New milestone for China: Probe snaps close-ups of asteroid Toutatis

"China's official news agency is reporting that the country's Chang'e 2 deep-space probe made an amazing flyby of the asteroid Toutatis this week, snapping a series of pictures as it passed just 2 miles away. The achievement signals China's entry into yet another exclusive space club."

Finally, some Chang'e we can believe in!

Clyde ayon kay ...

And yes, Toutatis DOES look like a misshapen phallus complete with testicles. It's even "flesh"-colored, to use a non-PC crayon word.
