Are your pants too short?

Maybe not.

This is what I do when I'm stuck waiting in court - look around and mentally make fun of all of the male attorneys with too short pants. There are always so many of them, and it's just so unflattering.

I didn't get what was so special about this guy's shoes.

I think that they could post a picture of someone wearing a plastic garbage bag, wearing flip flops and a tin foil hat and the commenters would still swoon all over the fabulous fashion sense.

What a bunch of ass kissing maroons.

Yep.

Obama voters, no doubt.

Mistaking shit for ice cream.

Funny, in a sad way.

Tipping point?

In the rear view mirror.

What, was this shot on Staten Island?

They could be floods for reals.

I can think of two movie stars, Gene Kelly and Van Johnson, who let a little sock show and it worked quite well. In Van Johnson's case the socks were always red and became a kind of trademark item. Kelly somehow got away with a little white sock showing. But in both cases it was a half an inch of sock, tops. This guy's showing between two and three inches of sock. Ridiculous.

Its like a male version of a mini skirt.

I like it.

Those are high water pants even considering they are tapered khakis, think Mad Men late 50s, early 60s Brooks Brothers pant. They should be worn as close to the shoe as possible with no break and showing a little sock.

The shoes? Most monk straps are expensive and in good taste, but I've always felt double buckle monk straps are pretentious.

Who doesn't like the field jacket?

No, I'm not gay.

Tough crown in the comments over there. "Ordinary, subtle, discrete...." I give the guy much more credit than that. I loved the entire outfit and thought it went together great.

God, he's playing pocket pool.

At his age.

Kelly was a dancer. Couldn't have pantlegs in the way, and yes, he was so good you wanted to see his feet move.

I agree. Short pants and white/light socks are for dancers.

Guy looks like he's trying to find something in his pockets.

Just a tad on the line, but not that bad.

As Katherine Hepburn noted about the Duke, some men like to call attention to their feet, if small ("little Irish feet", as she put it).

There, there, dear, glass houses and all.

if you've spent much time checking out this satorialist site, you'll see that shorter pants are being worn all over the place...this gentleman is not wearing anything particularly unusual. whether or not you find showing sock (or more often, bare ankle) an attractive fashion trend is another question.

Actually both guys in the photo are playing that form of billiard sports. Must be a New York fad.

Say what you will about Gene Kelly, but John Travolta's pink socks in Grease will never be equaled.

He looks like he's wearing women's pants. In fact, he has quite a derriere for a guy that size. He looks like a 25 year old woman, except for the head.

I'm glad he is at least wearing socks. The feet sweat. Why people want to wear socks without some kind or hosiery is baffling. Stinky shoes and ugly legs--does the public need more assaults on their senses (to go with the constant, lousy music in public places)?

Toy, grouchily

What is the orange thing by his leg? Is it part of the pants?

Charlie Currie said...

Short pants - very, early 60s, stylish.

It's the previously mentioned shopping bag, or are you just pimpin us?

Wince said...

Why are his pants so wrinkled around the knees? That accentuates how short they are below the knee.

He'll look like a real dork if he crosses his legs.

McTriumph said...

Cotton is king, guaranteed to wrinkle.

Mine are not. That guy's are.

In a few scenes of Skyfall, Bond's/Craig's pants were short (and cut very narrow), which made him look even shorter and dumpier than normal.

I meant SHOES without socks. I think that was a pre-nap comment. Sorry.

OK Althouse, where do pants end and shorts begin?

High water pants. Ruin your shoes if the water gets that high.

particularly appropriate since Greene Street was six feet under water last week. I expect to see Wellingtons featured soon.
