"The offensive shutdown may very well not have been an aberration as much as deficiencies camouflaged through the regular season..."

Brooding and babbling over baseball in New York.

An article about abject failure featuring two pictures of black Yankees.

Why is the NYT racist?

Go Tigers!

Does anybody really follow the AL East anymore?

Gooooooo Tigers!

Shouting Thomas ayon kay ...

Looks like we're headed for a fine old school matchup... Cards vs. Tigers.

Cards made it despite losing Pujols. Utility player comes off the bench to hit a crucial homer!

Damn Cardinals! Why can't the Cubs do that?

Heard on the radio this morning: I'm going to have my daughter date A-Rod.

Know why?

He can't make it to first base!

Woo! Detroit vs. St. Louis! Cry bitterly for your ratings, World Series broadcasters!

Boo-hoo.

And, I've never had a chance to see this Miguel Cabrera guy... first Triple Crown winner since Yaz in 1967.

That's one hell of a season.

Wasn't Pujols an ass for some reason last year -- or the year before?

Has he mellowed?

Pujols bolted the Cards for a couple of hundred million more bucks from the Angels.

Hard to see why he'd want to leave the most successful franchise in the National League. It's not like he would have been living in poverty.

For a few moments, we Cubs' fans thought that the Cubs might buy him. Probably wouldn't have helped.

The Yanks are fatally addicted to a roster full of old (by baseball standards) players. The inevitable breakdowns inevitably occurred.

Thanks. I don't follow baseball, but that I dimly recall.

Babbling, certainly. I literally can't figure out what this sentence is supposed to mean: "All due respect for 95 regular-season victories and an impressive September sprint to a division title, it would not be unreasonable to hypothesize that these 2012 Yankees could be headed in the direction against championship parade traffic."

My sons and I got to see him play the Twins on the last weekend of the season. He knocked one out that day to get himself back in the lead. The boys liked that, but they liked the grand slam by Ryan Doumit of the Twins even better.

I'm guessing A-Rod will take a long vacation somewhere other than NYC.

It's a great day when all those little-dicked New York lefties cry into their Zima's over the fact that one of the last replacements for their nonexistent manhood has shit the bed again.

Too bad the Bronx didn't burn again, this time.

The Yankees starting lineup was sponsored by the AARP.

True story!

Just wanted to say that. I'm the rare Cleveland fan that doesn't dislike the Yankees. The 90s Braves, on the other hand...

@ Shouting Thomas

Don't feel too bad about missing out on Pujols; that Anthony Rizzo kid is going to be very, very good!

And I'll add to the "Go Tigers!" chorus. I have three of them (Miggy, Austin Jackson and Anibal Sanchez) on my keeper-league team (and yeah, Rizzo, too!).

Unknown ayon kay ...

The look on the Yankees all through game four was "Is it off season yet?" I've hated the Yankees for forty years but this team is not even any fun to hate. I guess it's a relief for them to be pathetic for a while. I won't enjoy hating them if they stay pathetic.

I saw him as a rookie against the Cubs in the 03 playoffs. Younger, thinner version of what you'll see now, but he sure can hit. More power now.

This seems to make sense, except that over 162 games they won the most and finished first. Then won the first series vs. Baltimore.

I think [not sure] they scored the most runs for this year.

The weird thing is that on the day the regular season ended, they suddenly stopped scoring runs or hitting. How do you explain R. Cano?

Tank ayon kay ...

That whore has not noticed that the World Champion New York Football Giants are the World Champion NEW YORK Football Giants.

Last week they played the "best team in football," the 49ers.

Fan Fail.

Baron Zemo ayon kay ...

When the Captain went down it was all over.

Three of the core four were gone.

No Jeter. No Posada. No Mariano.

When it came time for Cano, Swisher, Teixeira and Granderson did not pick up the mantle of the great players who were part of the latest Yankee dynasty.

Of course like Obama you never could count on A-Rod.

Except for excuses.

Baron Zemo ayon kay ...

The Tigers were the superior team and I hope they win the World Series.

Good luck to the Tigers and their fans.

Joe Schmoe ayon kay ...

I'm a Red Sox fan, and I've been reading a lot of the whining about how the Yankees are old. Sort of, but not really. Jeter and Rivera are old but still performing at an All-Star level. ARod seems to be on the downside, and stick a fork in Pettitte. Raul so cool and Ichiro are old, but still can play, and were meant more to be bench/platoon players.

BUT, otherwise they are not so old. Cano. Granderson. Texeira. Swisher. Sabathia. A lot of their studs are in their 20s and early 30s, prime years for baseball players. Their problem is not so much the age, but a couple of key injuries and somehow forgetting how to hit in the playoffs.

This is a team that lived on the homerun this year. It's like a basketball team that focuses on 3-pointers, or a football team that is a one-dimensional passing team. Take away that aspect of the team, and they become very beatable. That was the Yankees' problem this year, not so much the age.
