How will Sandy affect the election?

Bob Wright and I talk about that (recorded yesterday):

I explain my coastal cities theory.

When Zero looses it will solely be blamed on Sandy depressin' de' black vote. Maybe the UN should monitor hurricanes? Or better yet, the UN should just go to hell.

Ps.

As a result of Zero loosing the election, the Democrats will piss, and cry, and moan about needing to change how we vote totally. It should be 24/7/52, at any liquor store, as often as you need to make sure your vote is counted, and in any language you please.

Bob Wright is so full of himself. Yeah, he is a smart guy, but why does he feel he is command of all the nuance?

Ann showed he was not, but what a shame to see him go back to the Supreme Court ruling in Bush vs. Gore like a child.

Bob Wright's intelligence has protected his ego, and stopped him from growing into adulthood.

President Obama 2012 suspension of his campaign and hustling back to DC to "oversee" storm efforts smacks of McCain's 2008 suspension of his campaign and hustling back to DC to "oversee" the financial crisis.

My suspicion is the result will be the same, especially in light of the President's preference to distance himself from oversight of the Benghazi murders.

agree on the EC blue state issue. I was making that point last wk.

Just vote early and then no worries. I voted Saturday.. For ROMNEY.

Ahhh, the former rapist-in-chief:

"We're coming down to the 11th hour. We're facing a violent storm," Clinton said. He waited a beat, then added, "It's nothing compared to the storm we'll face if you don't make the right decision in this election."

Drudge:

President Obama said in an interview aired Monday that his first priority if re-elected would be to push for passage of a debt-reduction plan to cut spending and raise taxes on the nation's highest earners.

The storm will help Obama, in that he will be seen as coordinating the response from Washington. The MSM will make a very big deal of his generalship from command headquarters as it were. Amazing how many people are susceptible to that sort of thing.

The cynic in me thinks that should Mr Obama lose a close one (not very possible IMO) that the meme will be it was (1) because of racism; and (2) the storm suppressed the vote.

I would appreciate a clarification of the constitutional issues involved to deal with possible impacts of the hurricane. I think Instapundit posted a comment but I cant find it.

Andy বলেছেন...

I wonder how Romney's claim that we should stop funding FEMA will hurt him.

Roger J. বলেছেন...

Ricpic--I think you are right, although emergency management is strictly a local responsibility. Governors request federal assistance through the Stafford Act (which Mr Obama denied to Texas during the wildfires). The Feds cannot legally intervene in questions of emergency response UNLESS they invoke the insurrection act. Governors request assistance, the feds react to the request. Mr Obama has very little he can do in light of this hurricane (well, at least constitutionally)

And once again, FEMA is NOT a response agency--it is a recovery agency.

Roger J. বলেছেন...

AndyR--as I suggested above it is the Stafford Act that determines what federal aid might be forthcoming in the event of a disaster. Since I tend to be a staunch federalist, I believe it is, in fact, the states and locals that should have primary resonsibility for disaster response.

The Stafford act provides for federal
assistance on request from Governors
but those agencies can deliver that assistance without FEMA--In short, again speaking as a federalist here, FEMA is unneccsary.

Typical lefty Andy. Lives of millions of people at stake, he's worried about whether his God will win re-election.

I bet it hurt yesterday when Obama went to church, showing that he believes in what you call "magic sky fairy" or some such nonsense. At least it would if you had the capacity for reason.

And if he and the democrats didn't plant all of those economic IED's that exploded in 2008 we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now.

Not much.
You're not voting for him anyway. So no biggie.

Wince বলেছেন...

Maybe if Andy R is trapped inside during the storm he can devote some time to learn how to link to his sources?

Seriously. Just a thought.

ricpic, I expect The Won will overplay his hand. After bluffing. Which, of course, he "never" does.

The hurricane is not going to change my vote.

My house is in Rahway NJ, about two blocks from the Rahway River. When I bought it in September of 2011, just after Hurricane Irene, it wasn't in a flooded area of the city. At closing, the documentation said it was in a "200 year flood zone," so I didn't get flood insurance.

Well, the likely storm surge up the Rahway River could make it a 200 year flood. My partner and I are presently encamped in a Super 8 Motel in upstate New York, waiting this out. I'm connected to my office via the motel wifi and VPN.

I'm trying to wrap my mind around the possibility that my house will be partially submerged in water by the time I come back this weekend. Where will we live? Will this wipe out my life savings? I have a headache.

I'm hoping for as much largesse from federal government as possible. If Obama facilitates this, will I be so grateful that I will vote for him? No. That is the bare minimum of what is expected of any president.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Good luck, Scott.

Scott বলেছেন...

Thanks Ann. Keep asking the hard questions.

Wright needs to check a map.

The hurricane will hit South Jersey, and then rain some on Philadelphia's parade (c'mon, Ann, you know this stuff).

If it suppresses the vote, it will be in Philadelphia.

PS Chi-Town, Detroit, and Cleveland have all lost significant numbers of Demo voters in the last 4 years (presumably blacks moved south).

Any word of this happening in the City Where The Brothers All Love Each Other?

Heck no, I like to see what's going down on election day. When you live in a messed up and corrupt county like Cuyahoga County, Ohio, there's often some strange and troubling things to be seen on election days.

----

As for the topic of things that could effect the voting, I wonder if the Detroit Tigers losing could tip things Romney's way in Michigan.

Is that a swing state? Haven't been keeping up.

There's a theory out there that apparently has some research to back it up, and it says that when a sports team has a great victory folks feel good and happier and reward the incumbent, but when a team suffers a terrible defeat the folks feel more depressed about things and take it out on the incumbent.

The tigers got swept in pretty awful fashion. On top of that the Michigan Wolverines and Michigan State Spartans have not been having the seasons they expected. On top of that the Red Wings aren't playing at all. On top of that the Lions are in last place.

Crunchy Frog বলেছেন...

If turnout is suppressed, the potential for voting fraud goes through the roof.

It wouldn't surprise me if people who are unable to make it to the polls have votes cast for them anyway...

Armoni বলেছেন...

im only 14 but these are some good arguments.
