Meade began dogging him in the comments on August 24th:
I wonder if any St. Louis fans, exactly one year ago today, when the Cardinals were 10 1/2 games from winning a wild card, were writing articles titled "The Cards can't be saved."The days have passed, and the comments thread over there has grown to 12 comments — all save one from Meade. The only one that isn't, on September 12th, says:
There is of course the fact that they added an extra wildcard this year. Without that where would the Brewers still very slim hopes stand? They'd have been eliminated already.Which was a reason to maintain more baseball-style hope, not less, but they have to put it in a pessimistic way. (This is Madison, Wisconsin, and you know liberals are pessimists.) The Meade comments continue. The newest one is:
WCGB: 1.5
Six games over .500
L10: 9-1
STRK:W6
24 comments:
The Crew is currently THE hottest team in baseball.
Mark Belling said pretty much the same thing a while back!
If someone had done what Meade has done to that old Althouse post in which she copped to being an Obama supporter in 2008 (or, perhaps more accurately, to having been lost by McCain), I wonder how long that comment thread would be by now.

Ha!
Also, "my husband keeps zinging a writer on a website who isn't paying attention, and by the way, neither is anybody else" isn't a great subject for a post.
Also: GO BREWERS!
Blah blah "isn't a great subject for a post" isn't a great subject for a comment.
Carlos Gomez was in the Brewers' lineup for Friday's series opener with the Nationals despite fouling a ball off his left foot in Thursday's game against the Pirates. X-rays taken after the game were negative, and while Gomez was sore, he wasn't expected to be slowed.
"He's doing good. Enough that he's back in there," manager Ron Roenicke said. "He took a blow, the X-rays came out negative. He's going to be sore today, but he says he's going to play."
Jason Joyce, Isthmus sportswriter: "Carlos Gomez's foot can't be saved".
You just jinxed them.
As a life-long baseball fan, St. Louisan and Cardinals fan, last fall (well, from Aug. 21 when Tony L. called a team meeting and exhorted the team to give the fans a "strong finish) was glorious. The Milwaukee fans we visited and who were out guests down the stretch were gracious and delightful (and delighted for us).
I wish you only the best and hope you (or we) have the pleasure this fall.
"There is of course the fact that they added an extra wildcard this year. Without that where would the Brewers still very slim hopes stand? They'd have been eliminated already."
How dumb is this comment? The extra wildcard was in place when the article was written.
Add to Meade's pointing to the Cards, the Colorado Rockies had a similar last month comeback, down 6 games on September 1 they went 20-8 to win the division.
It ain't over 'til it's over - and you're not really a baseball fan if you don't get that (that 9th inning comeback was fun, last night).
They've got got a tougher row to hoe to close out than the Cards. Gotta say that I'm glad they're hot now, as opposed to limping into the post-season, last year.
As far as the pissing contest between Meade and Joyce...meh. Yawn.
Baseball is wonderful.
Like life, many chances for redemption.
Game and a half behind with 12 to play - but no head to head match ups with the teams ahead of them - doable, but still tough.
I'm pulling for the Cards for that second slot - but good luck.
Giants' magic number: 2
Hope springs eternal, especially among baseball fans and even more when they are 9-1 in the last 10! GO BREWERS!!!!!
How cynical was it to create an extra or third wildcard slot and then have the fate of that team and the second wildcard team decided in a ONE GAME playoff?!
As a Ranger's fan, I appreciate all the joy we have given you Cardinals fans. It must be especially cool to have your home team announcers doing the game of Fox.

That is not a great reply to a comment on a not-great post.
It's been a nice run. That's for sure.

Very gracious of you, sir. I have been to many Brewers-Cards games, both at Miller Park and in St. Louis, and usually end up chatting with Red Bird fans. I have always found them civil and friendly and deservedly proud of their team.
GO BREW CREW!
Rockies 2007 21/22.
Sure, the catty, whiny, paunchy Bostonians won in the end, but we had one Hell of a ride.

And you, sir, just UNjinxed them. Thanks!
Nats rule!
This is not the first time that Jason Joyce has been wrong, nor will it be the last. Some people are congenitally lazy; JJ is congenitally wrong.
"The Brewers can't be saved."
Neither can Romney.
Liberals are pessimistic on most everything except they strongly believe there is always someone to pay for all of the idiotic ideas that emanate from their side.
