Speaking of movies that are hurting the feelings of religionists...

The Weinstein Co. is taking precautions over the release of its movie "The Master" (in which Philip Seymour Hoffman plays a character based on Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard).

Scientology is only a religion on April 15th.

Indeed ~ sex, politics and religion!

In no particular order ...

By the way, when they say this is loosely based on Scientology it's not exactly true. There are so many details in this that are mirror images of L Ron Hubbards statements and history. In other words, this IS about Scientology. I'm sure Tom Cruise is going to be less than clear over the next few weeks.

Oh, and didn't Hoffman work with Cruise on MI:III? I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get a curse filled phone call in the coming days from the Cruise man.

If you're an Operating Thetan III you got nothing to worry about.

I didn't know Hoffman feigning constipation or maybe actually being continuously constipated constitutes great acting.

I know this will upset Crack's world view, but in stark contrast to radical Islam and possibly--if Weinstein's concerns are well placed--Scientology, I give you this.

The Mohammad film is like a poor version of the Life of Brian me thinks.

Still, it's a lot like the Life of Brian.

Scientology doesn't have any atrocities to point to...yet. But give it time, it's a new religion. The LDS on the other hand, while being relatively young, has several they can point to with pride. Not on the scale of Christianity, or Islam, to be sure, but they've only been in existence for an eye-blink, not the centuries a good religion needs to build up the death toll.

(substituting for Crack 'til he makes an appearance)

Al Quaeda has RPGs, but Scientology has lawyers. Lots and lots of lawyers...

Greg કહ્યું...

Several? I'm aware of one actual atrocity and a slew of others alleged by the LDS Church's critics--the Danites come to mind. All of them are from the 19th Century, and virtually all but one based on slim-to-no evidence. Care to elaborate? And no, Brigham Young did not order the one.

Carnifex કહ્યું...

Just off the top of my head there's the Sept. 10 Field massacre. I'm sure you can google up some more.

Of course, the little animal is down with insulting an American religion.

Just like his Messiah.

PS Are we talking Mountain Meadows?

Carnifex કહ્યું...

Mountain meadows--that's the one...Thank you.

No, they're clean as a whistle. Just ask Lisa Mcpherson. No, wait, you can't.

Well, how about those three recent deaths in Oklahoma? No, wait, you can't ask them either.

Damn, it SUCKS to be worthless victims, don't it?

And yeah - it's the movies that are hurting people.

Sheesh,...
