"How it ever got to that status is beyond me. There's guys out there collecting all this old obscure rock 'n' roll," said Paul Barry, who co-wrote the song and was lead vocalist and drummer.

"In 1966, a ragtag rock band in Wisconsin called The Benders recorded an original song, 'Can't Tame Me,' at a tiny studio."
"... Long story short, single copies of the record in the original picture sleeve have sold for as much as $2,000 on the online market. That's more than it cost to press all the records back in the day."

The song is actually not that bad...
Really solid track. I love that stuff, mid-60s punk.
It's only worth that if you can find someone willing to pay the asking price. Pawn Stars, and Hardcore Pawn get it right.
"I've got this one of a kind jackalope mount. My grandaddy got it as a gift from Teddy Rooseveldt."
"I'll give ya $5 for it"
"This is one of a kind I tell ya'! Teddy freaking Rooeveldt!"
"$5, not a penny more"
"Okay."
Is there a link in that story? If not, here you go: link
That's a cool story - a hit that never got played. I like the song too. Not what I was expecting.
It was comp'd on the Back From the Grave series years ago, but like the article states it's originals in picture sleeves that bring the $$. Glad I kept my vinyl safe, clean & sealed in bags (to protect the sleeves & covers). Retirement inve$tment.
The internet will no doubt create more of these "genius in hindsight" wonders as folks have more material with which to build webs of influence.
It's not exactly unknown in music history, however. Greatest example: J.S. Bach who history turned into the musical acme of an era that mostly ignored him.
A lot of local groups were the fave of kids and they can't hear their music anywhere, so this kind of makes sense.
Any link to the actual song?
Yes, and it's awful.
BoDeans.
Best Wisconsin band, Evah.
I though it was pretty good. Some other stuff that is not quite as obscure is Little Black Egg, by the Nighcrawlers-1966 & Can't Seem To Make You Mine by The Seeds-1967 Great garage band era. The link for the song is there.
The Benders.
Carnifex.
The late flutist (don't say flautist) Yashu.
And this.
Such a musical group of commenters!
