The shape of the glass affects the speed of beer-drinking.

It's a study!

People drink more quickly out of a curved glass. But not for a soft drink. We're talking about beer:
While it took around seven minutes for people drinking from a curved glass to polish off their half pint, it took 11 minutes for those drinking from a straight glass....

The researchers thought that curvy glasses made it harder to pace drinking because judging how much was in the glass became more difficult owing to its curved shape.
It's because it's alcohol that people try to pace themselves. And apparently the curves are confusing.

As long as there are guard rails...

Totally wrong. The glass for drinking beer fastest is a funnel with a length of tubing.

This applies even more to imbibing of the fair sex.

i'd vote for those liter German clay mugs (or glass mug)

and a busty Bavarian farm girl in a dirndl, with 4 in her right hand and three in her left, dodging pinches, moving through the crowd.

I'll bet there have been beer studies on the size of the whole in a beer can too. And I'll bet the reason beer cans all have the bigger openings is that it improves beer drinking speed.

Nothing is better for beer drinking than a boot at Essen Haus.

The gray clay mugs are called a Tonkrug or a Bierkrug

Yes, Krugman is a mug man, but we knew that.

The alcoholic warning posters say that every bottle of beer is equal to one mixed drink. So what does a 12 cans a day college student's habit indicate?

Maybe the Brats are designed by German scientists to soak up the suds.

Tip for Garage:

You want the curviest glass you can find on election night. And you'll want to fill it to the brim with whiskey.

Also: Keep a big garbage can nearby for the vomit and tears.

My only surprise is that this was not funded by the Obama Administration OR UW-Madison.

Just drink enough beer and the straight glass will look curvy...

To less than 5% of us.

I've been confused by curves since I was old enough to notice them.

There.. fixed it for you.

Actually to be Frank.. I'm not supposed to be on this tread.. people places and things..

I thought everyone already knew this. I learned in the 70s - never drink beer out of a bottle or can. Always pour it into a proper beer glass. I guess every generation has to reinvent the wheel.

That's a dandy but I don't think it can beat the sweetly unexpected innocence of my dear blonde.

What is this, the blonds network?

Educher, EMD.. Meade.. well I guess Meade doesn't count ;)

I was college chug-a-lug champ two years in a row. I was not a real heavy drinker (by college standards) but I could open my throat and pour it right down. (Down, Titus. Down boy.)

A straight glass was definitely better for beer chugging. The directional pour is key to the chug-a-lug. You get slightly better placement with a straight glass.

My wife is a dirty blonde ... and yes, I know how that sounds. She's also as cute as the girl in the photo, but a tad bit older.

This one time I poured a Newcastle into a regular restaurant type water glass, straight tube with a bulge near the bottom. One bottle fit into one glass perfectly, so I took one sip, just one, and then set the glass on the side table. Then I go for a second sip and it's all gone! And I'm like what? No wait, what? So that proves there are invisible specters that steal beer.

And the next day the exact same thing happened. That proves it's not just me thinking it.

I would pace my drinking by using an Ehrlenmeyer flask, except that in Texas it's illegal to own one unless you're a certified chemist.

Speaking of curves, I recall having trouble making compound curves in the cad.. and as if by accident one day, fooling around I discovered it had to do with size and which side I approach. Sometimes if I rotated the drawing it would work.

Anyways.. Im just killing time waiting for Alhouse to update..

Word association?

While considering the shape of a glass, I nearly did something bad.

The plants in the tank are like grass that needed to be cut. The underwater grass was taking over a 50 gal tank. Leaving no room for fish to swim. Although they don't seem to mind that.

The angelfish are ornamental and I did not know they even came this way. Their fins are ridiculous. They are an affront to evolution. The side stabilizing fins are like tiny dishrags flapping around and their regular fins are like dragging around tattered curtains. They weigh the fish down. Well, you can see what I almost did while I had the scissors underwater, and with those fish poking around in the way of what I was doing.

And I'm still thinking about it. Like an experiment. Do you think it will hurt? Will it be like fingernails? I'm sure the fish will swim much better without having to flag their long raggedy fins all over the place. Like split ends, they have really long split fins.

Oh.. Sorry Chip.. I went to check up the home page and found a horror..

Word Association you asked?.. I guess.. I just put down something I heard.. something you triggered a memory of.. yes.

On a more serious note, there are a lot of studies like this that have come under increasing scrutiny. There have been made up results, and the defense of one professor who did it said "Well, everyone else in the field does it too!" This person was examining human reaction to color, or something.

That defense reminds me of debbie wasserman-schultz. It's OK that I lied, but the point I'm making is right.

There has been a study of beer glass shape that shows that bubbles in Guinness go down, instead of up because of the shape. I've studied this and it's true. Of course they were Irish scientists.

It has to be true. It's MSNBC.

They report on the study that "is not certain" whether results will be the same in real life setting?
