Well done.

Well done. Makes Warren and Obama look horrible.

Yet she still might win. Damned Massachusetts voters, even drowning a woman didn't keep them from pulling the D lever over and over.

Brown didn't make that ad. There were many hard working people @ DMV who gave him his first driver's license. There were lunch ladies feeding him good government school lunches. There were census takers who counted him and other people just like him. If they were of color, they were counted twice. There were police officers who kept Dunkin Donuts in business during down times. The list is endless.

Pastafarian said...

I think that might be the best political ad I've ever seen.

Are there any others that might be better?

Of course, I'm conservative, and a small business owner, so I'm in this ad's bullseye. But still: I actually got choked up a little bit during the Reagan segment.

I think this guy knows about miracles.

Lawyer Mom said...

Absolutely FANTASTIC. Agree with Pastafarian -- best political ad I've seen yet, by any candidate.

Obamas class warfare rhetoric could not be used by him at a worst possible time.

I mean, class warfare is always bad.. but with so many people unemployed and underemployed.. it seems like hes doing it purposely to make that worst.

If thats what he has to say to get reelected, then that makes it worst in my book... Because he is putting his own benefit ahead of the country.

MadisonMan said...

Very clear distinction. Great ad.

sane_voter said...

That was so good it made me donate to the Brown campaign.

Unknown said...

That is beautiful. That is the kind of ad you get in a competitive race with at least one classy candidate. We don't get that shit in Mississippi, where we like our politics dirty, and our crooks in office, so we can keep an eye on them.

edutcher said...

That Lizzie even has to fight is a testament to how things have changed in MA.

In the old days, the machine just gave the imprimatur of whatever Kennedy to the nominee and that was it.

sane_voter said...

after you donate at Brown for Senate, a window pops up thanking you for the donation, and there is a link that says "make another donation". I wonder how many folks click that link and donate again?

by the way, even if our Blogress won't donate, you can if you want to here.

You didn't build your business, your Dear Leader made that happen.

You don't get rich mortgaging your house, working your tails off manufacturing things that the customers want. You get rich by having connections with your banks, flipping houses foreclosed by your friendly bankers on the poor souls who lost their livelihoods in this crummy economy. A flip may make you three times the money you paid for for the stinky house. You get rich by getting "stimulus" from the politicians you bought with your bundles of "contributions".

AI:"we like our politics dirty, and our crooks in office, so we can keep an eye on them"

How many eyes do you need to keep on the crooks in Washington?

That is an excellent political ad, very effective.

This Paul Ryan ad, however, remains the very best, in my opinion.

Obama and Warren, hoist on their own petards. I love it - that is a great ad.

Even the republicans are fab. in Mass.

They have to be, otherwise, there would be none.

Mass republicans have always been socially liberal, including Mitty.

Mass. is too gay and "intellectual" for Louie Golmert types, although love him to death.

Also, we are a major "creative economy" and make lots of money...even though we are a commie state, we love our Venture Capital #2 rating, our huge amount of startups and very high salaries.

If you don't make over 100k here you are living a squalid life.

And most importantly we are one of the thinnest states in the country-we walk or bike everywhere.

Even the more rural Western parts of the state are fab-Northampton, Stockbridge, Amherst, etc. Tons of dykes, colleges and "intellectuals". Biddy, from Wisconsin resides out there, she must love the whale watching and Northampton Womyn's Nights.

Springfield is gross though. So is Pittsfield and Worcester.

Brookline, Newton, Chestnut Hill, Cambridge, Wellesley, Weston, Lexington, Wayland, Manchester By The Sea, Concord, so fab, so rich and so fucking expensive. Grover Norquist was from Weston, did you all know that?

tits.

What's so much worse that those nasty, back biting, attack ads is all those wonderful ads repeating a candidate's words back at herself or himself. Of course, it's terribly unfair to do that to our candidates and wonderfully appropriate to do it to the opposition.

Fox had a program over the weekend. Mittens business investments ballooned by 50% some years. Can you imagine having millions in a friggin IRA? Business confidence will create a stimulus all its own if he is elected. OTOH money is going overseas if the O is elected. It's going to be thin soup for those waiting for his gov't to take care of them and investment will crash around here.

MaggotAtBroad&Wall said...

Little Greg Sargent and the usual suspects seem to be upset about the ad. I suppose that must mean it is pretty darned effective.

Yes Pastafarian, maybe the best ever! I just donated. Sane Voter, thanks for the link.

Here's how the msm will frame this next time the President sits down for an interview -- "so, i have to ask you -- your opponents are attacking you saying that you don't believe that hard working folks have created their own businesses." Think the question might be framed differently if it was a Republican?

Totally lame. I hope the electorate does Brown a huge favor and keeps him away from Washington D.C. He doesn't belong there and he's intellectually ill-suited for the job.

And stop using "miracle" as a word to describe every day events.

I actually got choked up a little bit during the Reagan segment.

Sad and hilarious.

Wow, that ... really dragged. I hope the 30-second cut is better.

I thought the Warren version of the speech was supposed to have been much better than Obama's.

He was sarcastic and small but she was spit-flecked angry. What a thoroughly unattractive pair.

Typical sentimental bullshit, which appeals to the yokels of America over and over again. (The Dems are as guilty of this sort of embarrassing pandering as the Republicans.)

I didn't watch the last 15 seconds or so...did they pull out the stops and show images of little boys and puppy dogs, and sunshine glancing off church steeples?

Two negative comments from the two people who know the least about how things get done. From that alone you know it is a great political ad.
Now you two go watch the video of the guy laying bricks. maybe you'll learn something.

I suspect one's political values will determine how this ad is seen.
I thought it was very good myself; but, it does reflect my economic philosophy.

All Olympians stand on the shoulders of those who lifted them. We’ve already cheered the Olympians, let’s also cheer the parents, coaches, and communities. All right! [pumps fist].”

Have to make things up to win, huh?

Christopher in MA said...

I see the troll has his new Axelrod talking points.

I'll try to say this in small enough phrases that even you can understand it, machine.

1. Romney is not talking about capitalism and business success; Little Black Jesus was.

2. Nobody on the right believes people do things entirely on their own. As discussed last night, you only have strawmen because you don't know, nor care to educate yourself on, what the right believes.

3. If your precious wordsmith, the Greatest Orator Ever, had said If you have a business, you know, uh, uh, you didn't - you, uh, you didn't build that solely on your own, nobody would have raised an eyebrow.

But you keep spinning and pretending your tangle-tongued crackhead of a messiah didn't say wht he so clearly did say.

Christopher in MA said...

Typical sentimental bullshit, which appeals to the yokels of America over and over again

Marshalling the comments of past presidents in praise of the free market and contrasting them with Obama's view is sentimental bullshit, Robert? I expect better from you than that.

Or is it the use of the flag that frosts you?

Unknown said...

This is typical of the fantasy that Republicans have created about Obama. Obama's views on the free market system are not substantially different from Clinton's or Kennedy's, Ford's or Bush's.

Please folks, stop channeling your inner Glenn Beck. I'd rather listen to the crazy old fucker in the park scream about being probed by an alien than read reality-challenged "Obama is a socialist!" rants.

Roger J. said...

Please tell me, Mr Diamond, in what ways has Mr Obama endorsed the free market system? and how do his actions comport with his rhetoric?

Oh gee dipshit, it is like so hard!!

Really I mean the great orator behind:

The private sector is doing fine

and

If you have a business you didn't build that

and

So, if somebody wants to build a coal plant, they can — it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they are going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted

and:

electricity rates will “necessarily skyrocket”

Totally has the exact same views as Ronald Reagan on the free market!

He does!

Imbecile.

Brian Brown said...

by the way, this is the part where wittle jakie pretends that:

A. Obama's comments aren't about the market

B. Obama didn't say them

C. Obfuscate A&B

Oh, and PS dipshit, please point us to a single statement by Kennedy, Ford, Reagan or Bush blaming Wall Street for any economic downturn.

Thanks in advance, intellectual coward.

Christopher in MA said...

Obama's views on the free market system are not substantially different from Clinton's or Kennedy's, Ford's or Bush's.

Care to explain to we knuckle-draggers what his views are, then? And remembering that what he says in public almost always differs from what he says in private ("bitter clingers" and all that), pointing me to some campaign boilerplate will not suffice.

Brian Brown said...

Oh gee, the guy who wants to bankrupt coal plants is getting his wish:

PBS Coals Inc. and its affiliate company, RoxCoal Inc., laid off about 225 workers as part of an immediate idling of some deep and surface mines in Somerset County. The company now employs 795 workers.

In a statement, PBS President and CEO D. Lynn Shanks said foreign and domestic markets were seeing softened demand for coal.

"Additionally, the escalating costs and uncertainty generated by recently advanced EPA regulations and interpretations have created a challenging business climate for the entire coal industry," he said in the statement.

But don't worry jakie, Reagan thought the same things!

Kennedy too!!!

They did!

Robert Cook said...

If Obama were not as servile to capitalist prerogatives as his predecessors, he would have launched mass investigations with an eye toward criminal prosecutions of Wall Street and banking executives for their part in the financial collapse that commenced four years ago.

Recent reporting makes clear that the banks, en masse, appear to be involved in fraud, price-fixing and bid-rigging as standard practice...and this has been known but ignored by those charged with overseeing the banks and enforcing (those few) regulations that remain in force to rein in criminal activity by these too-big-to-fail and, apparently, too-big-to-jail institutions.

Roger J. said...

Mr Diamond: you laid this skunk on the table--several commenters have already responded to your assertion--why dont you, sir, tell us how Mr Obama's economic philosophy is in synch with the presidents quoted in the Scott Brown ad posted by our hostess.

Roger J. said...

Mr Diamond: I answered your question--the ball is in your court: identify where Mr Obama supports the private sector.

Robert Cook said...

As for the campaign ad, Americans are suckers for this kind of reeking crock 'o shit, because, at our core, we're gullible rubes, and we believe our own lies about ourselves, that we are uniquely virtuous not only in the world today but in human history.

These are the same techniques used to sell soda pop and beer, deodorant and shampoo, toilet paper and tampons.

See, he "shows" us Tea Party dummies how stuuuupid we are with his baseless assertions and moves on.

To more silly assertions.

Bravissimo!

For Brown, vis-a-vis Massachusetts centrist voters, the ad:

1.) Showed the historical bipartisan position toward free enterprise and success, as recent as Clinton,

2.) Highlights the extreme departure from that centrist position by Warren and Obama,

3.) Makes Warren look like a hectoring extremist and Obama look like a wise-cracking adolescent.
