"Seinfeld isn't talking to the media about his new [web-only] show..."

"But the premise sounds a bit like his TV show, which focused on the minutiae of life....."
In the promo for the new webseries, Seinfeld's old partner Larry David affirms that connection: "It's comedy in cars with coffee. What does that mean? ... You have finally done a show about nothing!"
Here's the first episode of "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee." Nice attention to the car (a 1952 split-window Volkswagen). The episode title is "Larry Eats a Pancake."

I'm a big fan of the 2-guys-talking-in-a-restaurant genre. My favorite movie is "My Dinner With Andre."

My favorite movie is "My Dinner With Andre."

In a post a few days ago you said "I have a 1-hour attention span"

Question: Do you watch "Dinner" in halves?

Whatever happened to vent windows.

No car since has had adequate cooling without A/C.

Haven't rewatched it in a while, but in the last few years I do break nearly every movie in half.

I wish theaters would accommodate this preference!

What's Seinfeld, 45 years old? I guess the plan is to coast for the rest of his life.

Ruth Anne Adams ayon kay ...

I'm seeing Seinfeld on Thursday.

He's not coasting.

That was awesome. "A cigar takes time." Hey, that's a legit insight!

We now break most movies in half. This is because we have three young children, and movies must be started after they go to bed. We are also now too old to function with habitual sleep deficits.

I hardly ever slept when I was a teenager. But then, how much functioning does a slacker teen need to do?

Indeed. And try putting one window down while driving 45. You can't. The concussive air flow is annoying. You have to put down windows on both sides of the car now.

Supposedly Glenn Beck gets big audiences on his web only network. I watched a clip of his Liberty Treehouse, and it was surprisingly good. Better than any programming for middle school students I've seen on regular TV. In fact, it was good enough that I might let my kids watch it in addition to Mr. Rogers, which is available through Amazon Prime.

Also, this show isn't really funny until they get to the diner.

I can't recall if you watched the episode of Community in which they spoofed "Dinner."

Community was great. Then, they fired Dan Harmon, the creator. I won't be watching it anymore.

Since I only saw "Seinfeld" once and wasn't impressed (it really was about nothing; Larry David seems to be our expert on it), I don't think I'll catch this, either.

You need a break every 45 minutes?

One of the few web only content shows I really enjoyed. Larry David is a gem...

There was a blip at the end acknowledging the donor of the VW. I know Jerry's fancies unusual cars, so I'm perhaps a bit disappointed the cars aren't actually his. BUt otherwise I was pleased. Looking forward to Ricky Gervais.

A 1952 VW bug. At least one of the two comedians, Larry David, equates conservatism with Nazism. And yet, here he is admiring a German car built only 7 years after the Holocaust ended by a company that infamously conscripted Jews (among others) as slave laborers.

And then...they talk. And pretend that the other is saying something funny.

Irony.

Louis CK was the first to do web only.

The fundamental difference between My Dinner w/ Andre and this little gem is Seinfeld and David ARE FUNNY AND INTERESTING.

You need to update your pretentious movie, Althouse. First take some ritalin so you can focus for 2 fucking hours. Then watch Inception, The English Patient, Cold Mountain, Gosford Park..or anything by Robert Altman. That's the plan, just watch all of Robert Altman's flicks and you'll have your pretentious quota for the rest of your life.

wyosis, Interesting car and interesting seeing 2 Jews riding in a Nazi car. I was surprised David didn't bring it up.

The mark of the deracinated Jews is that they pride themselves on ignoring certain inconvenient facts. One of my uncles, a successful accountant, was proud as punch that he could afford and drive around in a Mercedes Benz. And this was back in 1960, only 15 years after the end of the German, uh...adventure in genocide. Fuck them all. The Germans of course but also the Jews who couldn't and can't forget fast enough.

That was delightful. It may not have been belly laugh a minute but both those guys were genuinely enjoying the time together. Their enjoyment translated on screen and was infectious. Ricky Gervais also looks like it is going to be fun. Too often, though, comedians are dark. I don't know how many episodes they are going to be able to pull off and be so amusing. I can imagine have someone like Janeane Garofalo on, "No, Jerry, I'm NOT going to eat your pancake."

Jerry: "Why not?! It's good! Everybody loves pancakes!"

Janeane: "Taking into account the public's regrettable lack of taste, it is incumbent upon you not to fit in."

Jerry: "I don't think you are getting the point of the show. Enjoy!!"

Janeane: "Let's be very honest about what this is about. It's not about bashing Democrats, it's not about taxes, they have no idea what the Boston tea party was about, they don't know their history at all. This is about hating a black man in the White House. This is racism straight up."

That might sour things a bit.

lol Althouse, I hope you're suitably impressed spinelli has got you under his skin.

EMD, I first saw 'Community' following a link from here. It was the Dinner With Andre one. It's one of the funniest sit-coms to come out in a while. My favorite episode is where they keep throwing the dice, and each time showing a alternate timeline.

Ann Althouse ayon kay ...

1. I've seen the Community episode.

2. I've been watching Robert Altman movies since the early 70s.

3. Have seen many, many, many movies, including "Gosford Park" and "The English Patient" -- which are the very definition of middle brow (and not "pretentious"). Didn't like them.

4. I have an attention span that can go 12+ hours if I'm reading and writing. I just don't like to be controlled by someone else's timeline, which is what happens at the movies. You're in and you're stuck. Feel the same about lectures. That's why I like being the teacher. If I'm sitting in the audience, I'm looking for my opportunity to get out, and I'm the first person out of the room.

ndspinelli ayon kay ...

The lack of control is the primary reason people are afraid to fly

Larry David, equates conservatism with Nazism.

David is as liberal as they come, but he has had fun with the politically correct conventions of modern liberalism. I also feel he has a conservative streak deep down inside of him he suppresses. It will be interesting to see how he continues to age without the imprint of his über-liberal harpy ex-wife on him.
