When BO was nominated I thought that the Democrats might have found the only contender likely to lose to McCain. I wasn't accounting for nearly 100% of the black vote (SNL did a skit about how support among black voters has fallen to 99.9%) and Bush fatigue. And McCain fatigue. I should have realized that Bush fatigue would matter because I started feeling it when he was still governor.
These factors are still in place, with Romney fatigue the newest reason to say "oh, please" about the Republican nominee. Now it's Obama fatigue competing with Romney fatigue. I don't much give a rat's ass this time around. Seeing how the racial politics plays out will make interesting news, perhaps. Apart from that, each of them is worse than the other. Nothing new in that.
The most interesting question in politics left for me is why everyone in it is so despicable. I keep waiting for something to float to the top that I don't recognize.

"He isn’t doing fine with Jewish voters.“Among Jews, Obama’s current 64% to 29% advantage compares with a 74% to 23% advantage before the election in 2008."
64 to 29 is still a huge advantage. Despite everything you read or hear in the next few months, the MoDo's, Jews, blacks, and our darlings in the media will vote overwhelmingly for BO come November. I even somewhat famously made that point about our lovely hostess a couple of months back. They ain't going anywhere and they aren't going to vote for Romney. Now maybe Althouse will vote R come November, time will tell. But to say that Jews or blacks will not vote overwhelmingly for BO (and 64 to 29 is overwhelming) is BS at worst and wishful thinking at best. Rubin ought to know better.
When Obama is surrounded by people like Warren Buffet, Anna Wintour, Sarah Jessica Parker, George Clooney, Oprah, Jeffrey Katzenberg, Michael Moore, Goldman-Sachs and GE executives and other ultra-rich boutique ultra 1%ers - it's easy to understand why Obama thinks everything is fine and dandy.

I like Rubin. WaPo has always had interesting token conservatives.
I do not understand why all these pundits keep writing about Obama as if he was a politician. He is not. He is an emissary from an alternate universe.
"Just fine" = "Good enough for government work"
When it comes to being a narcissistic asshole, Obama is doing fine. Actually, he's doing extremely well.
When it comes to funneling money to his cronies and campaign contributors, Obama is doing fine.
When it comes to Chicago-style government corruption, Obama is doing fine.
When it comes to being an effective president, not so fine.
It's the end of the world as we know it...

@EDH: I'll see your R.E.M. and raise you a Beck, Guess I'm Doing Fine
Lyrics (I always imagine the "blue bird as the Twitter mascot):
There's a blue bird at the window
I can't hear the songs he sings
All the jewels in heaven
They don't look the same to me
I just wade the tides that turned
'Till I learn to leave the past behind
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing...
Guess I'm doing fine
All the battlements are empty
And the moon is laying low
Yellow roses in the graveyard
Got no time to watch them grow
Now I bade a friend farewell
I can do whatever pleases me
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing...
Guess I'm doing fine
Press my face up to the window
To see how warm it is inside
See the things that Ive been missing...
Missing all this time
It's only lies that I'm living
It's only tears that I'm crying
It's only you that I'm losing...
Guess I'm doing fine
Guess I'm doing fine.

The economy isn't doing fine.
I wonder if Obama is feelin' all right?
Seems I got to have a change of scene
Cause every night I have the strangest dreams
Imprisoned by the way it used to be...
How the heck is Obama still polling as well as he is, seriously?
The Republicans, OTOH, are doing just fine.
It isn't all his work. Every time Pelosi Galore or Halo Joe says something, the hole gets a little deeper, and then there's Dingy Do-Nothing Harry.
But, yeah, the Republicans seem to have hit the lottery this time

They are relying on exit polls--people leaving the Democratic tent.

Seriously?
People who voted for Obama are idiots.
Some of the idiots are too dumb to learn from experience.
EVERYTHING hinges on enough idiots in enough states learning enough to not vote for Obama, again.
I'd settle for them just not voting.
