She's the perfect little worker bee. All she needs is the collar round her neck to keep her from listening to those eeeevilll Republicans.

I'm wondering who gets to play Galt, the Master Thrall - Zero, Joe, or Sibelius?

Hey, maybe it's Big Sis.

Welcome to the real War on Women.

PS I note they triumphantly tell us Julia will live off Social Security when she's old. According to the Trustees' Report, she won't be living past 2033 and her medical care will end in 4 years.

You don't see this ad campaign targeting men after all.

Julia graduated college with high marks and a promising future. She met a man back there in college and the two fell in love and married. She finished her degree but made a careful decision to significantly change the arc that her life would take and she did successfully raise a family of four children and her husband eventually became a Republican Senator. Her story is still unfolding but mostly because of her husband's job her relationship with government is nothing at all what she anticipated.

At least, Julia does not fall victim to the dreaded obesity epidemic in America.

Speaking of which, OMG, have you seen the trailer for HBO's big (no pun intended) 4-part obesity epidemic documentary, "The Weight of the Nation"?

I don't want to minimize or make light (no pun intended!) of the problem of obesity in America. Seriously, I understand that widespread obesity has serious ramifications not only for the individuals suffering from it, but the nation as a whole (affecting not only health but health care and thus public policy). It's a topic that deserves serious attention. Especially since it now appears many of the dietary guidelines the federal government has pushed in the past turn out to have been... completely wrong. Wonder if the doc will touch on that.

I feel a lot of sympathy for persons suffering from obesity.

But that trailer strikes me as so over the top-- especially the oh-so-obvious tie-in with Obama White House agitprop ("AN UNPRECEDENTED PUBLIC HEALTH CAMPAIGN"; the soaring overhead shots of the White House; it's like an Obama campaign ad)-- that I plead guilty of finding it… kinda funny. It's not even so much the hyperbole as the documentary style. Does it make me a bad person that I can't help but giggle at the last line, like the last line of an apocalyptic Hollywood movie trailer: "Obesity will crush the United States… in oblivion."

LOL, can't help it.

A recent short-term study by Abbott-Shim, Lambert, and McCarty (2003) is particularly notable for using random assignment of eli- gible 4-year-olds who had applied to a large Head Start program with a waiting list. This procedure allowed the researchers to rule out selection bias as an influence on results. Abbott-Shim et al. (2003) found that Head Start participants benefited substantially com- pared to nonparticipants in the areas of recep- tive vocabulary and phonemic awareness and had more positive health-related outcomes, for example, they were more likely to be cur- rent on their immunizations.Good thing Julie at least got a head start, the rest with just a little bit of help.

But can Head Start cure hyphen trouble?

I can copy and paste, too:

n sum, this report finds that providing access to Head Start has benefits for both 3-year-olds and 4-year-olds in the cognitive, health, and parenting domains, and for 3-year-olds in the social-emotional domain. However, the benefits of access to Head Start at age four are largely absent by 1st grade for the program population as a whole. For 3-year-olds, there are few sustained benefits, although access to the program may lead to improved parent-child relationships through 1st grade…

"Julia"

Julia is an American sitcom notable for being one of the first weekly series to depict an African American woman in a non-stereotypical role.

In Julia, Carroll played widowed single mother Julia Baker (her helicopter pilot husband had been shot down in Vietnam) who was a nurse in a doctor's office. The doctor, Morton Chegley, was played by Lloyd Nolan, and Julia's romantic interests by Paul Winfield and Fred Williamson. Julia's son, Corey (Marc Copage) was approximately six to nine years old during the series run. He had barely known his father before he died.

Previous television series featured African American lead characters, but the characters were usually servants. The show starred actress and singer Diahann Carroll, and ran for 86 episodes on NBC from September 17, 1968 to March 23, 1971.
