Former Bad Boy rapper G. Dep "has suffered the mockery and insults of his fellow prisoners... for confessing to a shooting that he had essentially gotten away with..."

"... only to find out that his victim had died and that he had turned himself in for murder."

[Trevell Coleman] was sentenced this morning to 15 years prison for a two-decade old fatal gunpoint mugging -- a cold-case murder that was only solved when he walked into a Harlem precinct two years ago, turning himself in so he could square himself, he has explained, with God....

"He's gotten the scorn of other inmates, who called him stupid -- 'Look what happened when you open your mouth,'" [his lawyer, Anthony Ricco] said. "His wife questioned him -- 'Trevell, what about us?'"

Coleman and his wife were raising twin sons of kindergarten age. On the day of his April verdict, the wife -- who had urged Coleman not to confess -- had wondered to the lawyer about how the boys will manage now, without their father.

"My hope is that their sons will grow up to be as proud of their father as boys can ever be, for fixing what he did," Ricco said. "They will have a father who has honor."

Justice for Trevell.

Others can mock him, but I can only admire him for doing what was right, for himself and for his victim's family and loved ones, and for his sons.

Those without honor hate honor. Because it mocks them and reminds them of what they could be.

But seriously, that is some manning up right there. I don't think I have that level of character myself right now. Fortunately for me, mine was better when I was 17 than his.

That is really phenomenal courage and backbone, especially because of his peers' reaction.

Ok, read the article, I will give him credit for having turned his life around and he did the righ thing after so many years. So there is redemption for rappers.

If Barry had a son, he'd look like Trevell.

Yea, I had to delete my snark. This is just too exceptional to make fun of.

Me too.

@bagoh20 & AllieOop - But snark is the tenor of the blog and comments. Sometimes it's ironic snark, less so sarcastic snark, to skewering snark. Well founded snark. Observant snark. You get the idea...And the commenters are in on the game too gleefully going after each other snarkily (did I invent a word or just mispell it?). Rest assured someone will post up with some snark about it...

Honor. Little used concept these days. I hope it makes a comeback.

He's got character. Respect.

He should be be in minimum security.

That said, the article could have said a little more about the victim to balance the sentiment engendered for the confessor.

I'm not surprised by this in the least. It's as fine an example of the world we live in as can be found - as well as confirming evidence:

Wasn't I telling you, just last night, specifically about *Rappers* defiantly being men in a world demanding different - and not being afraid to go to jail for doing the right thing - no matter what "the right thing" constituted?

And wasn't I also mocked for it? Oh, the efforts to demoralize real men is never-ending. Crack Emcee, that "sad, sad man" someone said.

Yeah. The sad man who knows EXACTLY what he's talking about.

Instead, this is a sad, sad society with small heel-licking "puppies" (as AllieOop called them) pretending to be men, as the women those pups want affix a target on the back of anyone who dares be the real thing. Shit, this guy's own WIFE was begging him to lie - now that's a mindfuck. How is she going to take care of the kids? With her grasp of ethics, I'm sure - as soon as he's safely locked away - she'll figure out something.

For the kids, of course.

There's a tide turning in this country, people, and TMR is the wave about to hit with the force of a thousand tsunamis. I've been telling you for years:

You can't keep reality under wraps forever.

Like what it means or not, Ladies (and that's directed at those with testicles, too) but I am the first, and there's more coming behind me. Many, many, more.

Ann said she can't can't see anything happening now, when I'm still here telling it like it is. You're all missing it. I'm the one about to turn this motherfucking place upside-down. I'm the one that's going to see to it. Beating the rugs. Getting the change from between the cushions. And chasing all the sorry motherfuckers out. Mark my words:

Falling like bombs over baghdad,...

Delinquency as black culture, nor pop-culture will not get me to pretend that the lack of psycho-analysis means what the ego-maniacal ideally would like to think of himself as objectively credible. What good is a self (ego) when it has not developed beyond 8-12 years of age, or and adequate level of maturity? Anyway this article gives reason to once again understand that enviorment, nor heredity (genetics) can impede ones self. Regardless of sociopathic position.

What a remarkable individual. It is not at all easy following the right path, when the alternative promises instant gratification without consequence.

It's not often that a criminal serves as a role model for society. While he still deserves to be punished for his crime against an individual and society, there is a lesson to be learned where self-moderating behavior overcomes selfish interest. There also exists a paradox where he simultaneously loses and acquires liberty. The latter in the form of peace of mind.
