"When will ‘The Kathleen’ Falk and Tom Barrett get their Walter Mondale on?"

Asks David Blaska, very intraWisconsinly, except to the extent that Walter was over there in that state that looms to our left.

Interesting blog.

Actually one candidate did say where the money was going to come from. I think it was Kathleen "so what if my husband was a Blago advisor" Vinehout said she will raise taxes on businesses that operate in Wisconsin.

Related, she was just endorsed by the Sioux Falls Ecomonic Development Corporation, and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

Wisconsin posted the largest percentage job loss in U.S. over past year, and Walker is still out pimping his job record. Just Orwellian.

Garage: For the same reason Obama is claiming recovery and we hear that 8%-10% unemployment became the new normal when a few years ago 5% unemployment was unheard of: Politics.

In his defense, it seems to work for Obama.

Good times:

Falk, who became the “union candidate” by promising to veto any future budget that didn’t fully restore the collective-bargaining power scaled back by Walker, has begun sliding in the polls, and is currently trailing her primary Democratic challenger, Milwaukee mayor Tom Barrett, by 14 percentage points.

The unions, sensing Falk’s electoral weakness, pulled their pro-Falk advertisements over the weekend, vowing to “regroup.” A union-backed group called “Wisconsin for Falk” had spent an estimated $3 million to back the former Dane County executive

That's 3 million well spent!

Wasn't Mondale the one who was stunned! stunned! by all the regulations weighing him down when he tried to run a bed & breakfast? If I recall correctly he even admitted that's why he couldn't make a go of the business.

Bill, Republic of Texas বলেছেন...

Why does Wisconsin have a hat? Does it keep you warmer in winter? Did you lose a bet with Michigan?

edutcher বলেছেন...

Mondale was the one who could only carry his home state by a mere 5000 votes.

Be careful of that for which you wish...

They have to be convinced to set up in the state before they can start hiring.

What is garage' solution to declining Rust Belt employment? The answer - more government, more unions.

Beware the preliminary BLS estimates, garage. Here's a rundown by Politifact of how far off the preliminary number has been from the final number in Wisconsin recently:

"the following percentages represent the difference between the revised and preliminary estimates" (i.e., October's estimate was off by 75%)

Total non-farm jobs

January -- 24 percent
February -- 58 percent
March -- 15 percent
April -- 52 percent
May -- 22 percent
June -- 16 percent
July -- 22 percent
August -- 78 percent
September -- 11 percent
October -- 75 percent

Also note, 3/4 of the jobs "lost" in the report you reference were government jobs, so a win for the taxpayer.

Matt Sablan বলেছেন...

Even 11% seems kind of high to have to readjust your numbers. But... 70+%? They need to fire some people.

Yea I'm sure that's it edutcher.

once every last conservative has been driven from the state of Wisconsin, garage and his communist pals will set up their communist utopia and they will show the world how really generate economic growth!

Falk-gnomes Business Plan

1. Spend $1 billion to restore all union benefits, and re-institute bargaining to drive that cost higher

2. ????

3. Profit!

edutcher বলেছেন...

Glad you agree.

1. Spend $1 billion to restore all union benefits, and re-institute bargaining to drive that cost higher

State was better off with those union rights. Dead last in the country is no way to go through life. And nothing will change, we will keep sucking wind and losing more jobs. I'm just glad I don't rely on many Wisconsin businesses for my sales.

Who would have predicted Tea Party/Birch Society/ALEC/Heritage/Troglodyte changes would be detrimental to the state economy?

Hoocoodanode!

Calypso Facto বলেছেন...

we will keep sucking wind and losing more jobs

Losing MORE jobs? Like 104,000 jobs lost Mar'08-Mar'09? Or 60,000 lost Mar'09-Mar'10? You know who was governor then, right? You were sure hollering about Doyles loser policies and calling for a recall then, too, I'm sure?

But by all means, scream bloody murder about the 6,000 (.5%) private jobs PREDICTED to be lost 3/11-3/12. Another 30 such consecutive months and Walker can finally start matching Doyle's losses.

garage mahal বলেছেন...

Another 30 such consecutive months and Walker can finally start matching Doyle's losses.

Why is Wisconsin doing so poorly on jobs in relation to other states, the national economy, and Midwest? They seem to be recovering from the recession and adding jobs. We aren't.

What makes you think any of this is going to change? I don't see it.

Curious George বলেছেন...

A good portion of WI's plight is a huge paper/printing industry...a dieing business no matter who is governor. We als ohave a lot of window/door and prefab manufacturers in the state...with the housing market they won't be back for a while. As has been pointed out, Walker's job record is sweet against Doyles...so garage's claim that his budget bill caused all this is his typical bullshit.

What we do have going for us now is a balanced budget...get rid of this recall bullshit and employers will feel safe that the tax environment won't change.

garage mahal বলেছেন...

What we do have going for us now is a balanced budget.

Budget is 143 million out of balance, and Walker is raiding foreclosure settlement money meant for homeowners to help balance it. By the way, in Doyle's last year Wisconsin added 30,000 private sector jobs.

I'm Full of Soup বলেছেন...

BLS reports WI unemployment rate decreased from 7.9% in Nov 2010 to 6.8% in Mar 2012.

WI Employment total was 2,825,217 in Nov 2010 and 2,856,643 in March 2012.

Those numbers suggest the jobs picture in WI has improved since Nov 2010 [when Walker took office?].

Alex বলেছেন...

garage - what is your proposal to close the deficit?

Walker is raiding foreclosure settlement money meant for homeowners to help balance it.

For those in more proximate closeness to reality """The money will be used in accordance with Section 1(b)(i) of Exhibit B to the Consent Judgment, which is the provision that governs the use of these funds."

The settlement allocates $140 million to resolve Wisconsin’s claims. Only 18% of this amount has been allocated for the State’s general fund. The legislature will decide how this and other state revenues should be used. However, the money may help avoid tax increases, provide continued support for programs that serve the needy, support the type of economic development that will create jobs, advance law enforcement efforts direct at mortgage fraud and other financial crimes, and avoid layoffs of public employees. The remaining 82% of the settlement money—approximately $115 million--is for specific programs that will provide relief to foreclosed homeowners and those who are struggling with mortgage debt."""

And Garage, how about that Hitler Quinn in Illinois taking away raises and health care from Illinois employees just to save money ???? Recall him!!!!!

Unemployment in WI was 7.6%.

No, I believe it is lower than that, the WSJ says that seasonally adjusted is 6.8.

http://blogs.wsj.com/economics/2012/03/30/unemployment-rates-by-state/

That compares to 8.5 in Michigan and 8.8 in the worker's paradise of Illinois. Time to raise taxes again!!!!!

I'm Full of Soup বলেছেন...

It was 7.6% in March 2011. Sorry, I did not make it clear that I was talking about March 2011 not 2012.
