Actually, caricature is one of those, "Tell us what you REALLY think", things.

You can get a real feeling for the temper of a time - the Civil War, for example - looking at caricatures of the famous and infamous.

I dabbled in caricature at one time.

I found being able to draw only stick figures so limiting, however.
