January 6, 1951 1 The Tennessee Waltz – Patti Page 2 The Thing – Phil Harris 3 My Heart Cries for You – Guy Mitchell & Mitch Miller 4 Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer – Gene Autry 5 Harbor Lights – Sammy Kaye 6 Be My Love – Mario Lanza 7 Frosty the Snowman – Gene Autry 8 A Bushel and a Peck – Betty Hutton & Perry Como 8 Thinking of You – Eddie Fisher & Hugo Winterhalter 10 Thinking of You – Don Cherry 10 Christmas in Killarney – Dennis Day
Patti Page's Tennessee Waltz reminds why I'm glad that rock booted old "too close to the mic" pop. The Como is good (as expected) in his laid back way and the Autry certainly lasted (though that's a lot of holiday holdover). But that darned Phil Harris song is so weird and not funny but also not "not interesting". What could the Thing be? I just don't know. And it wouldn't be BEP (Before Elvis Presley) if there weren't at least two version of one song. This time pro golfer Don Cherry and heartthrob Fisher split Thinking of You.
Happy birthday, Althouse. As your attorney and physician, I advise you to get at least lightly tipsy, if not thoroughly drunk. But for God's sake, leave the ether alone.
Happy Birthday, Ann. My daughter Lauren celebrates her 32nd today, so we'll drink a toast tonight to all the 1/12ers.

The Thing was a 1951 horror movie very popular in the day. James Arness of Gunsmoke fame played his first role "The Thing", a monster who never spoke a word.

But boy, if there was a list of Beatles songs I never want to hear again, "Birthday" is right near the top. . .
I believe it's Rush Limbaugh's birthday, too, and he was born the same year you were - 1951.
It is my wife's birthday as well. Happy birthday.
