Someone carved "sult" on a lady's car, and she had an ex-boyfriend who — twice! — had texted "sult."
When they tracked the man down, police asked him to write "You are a slut," and he wrote "You are a sult."

"Stupid is as stupid does." Somebody smarter than me said it first.
Poor journalism, there's no follow through. For example if a cricketer breaks his leg trying to make a catch the last paragraph of an article should note if he made it, and if the runners advance. So is she a slut or not?
The heartbreak of dyslexia.
wv: tarded - no kidding
Stupid is talking to cops.
Dyslexia is hilarious!
Hestyracil.
What a maron!
Sult is the opposite of insult.
Like sect and insect.
Maybe she was a salty slut...
Hilarious. Rubber hammer stupid.
This reminds me of the Woody Allen classic, 'Take the Money and Run' scene where he attempts to rob a bank. He passes a note to a teller that says 'I have a gub'.
She is the sultan of swing? That seems like a good thing. She should be proud!
Trey
Great point Trey - Mark Knopfler does use the word "Sult(an)" exactly twice in that song. And there's no doubt that the moron now finds himself in Dire Straits.
I take this with a grain of sult.
Commenters here are sipid and otic.
Sultans of Swing
A sult has been shot! Round up the usual dyslexics.
This is funny. Oops.
Maybe she's sultry?
Maybe he was Japanese. They can't pronounce L in words, hence all the Marines nightime passwords were full of Ls.
garage
Pocket calls can be dangerous! Good one.
Athosue: "Someone carved "sult" on a lady's car"
"Marshal said...
So is she a slut or not?"
Eaxxactly! Because if she is a "sult" then she is no lady.
The password for tonight is Lallapolooza. Mispronounce that one at your own risk.
Speaking of flows of words, where is carol Herman these days?
And they say a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
Or is it it's a terrible thing to waste your mind?
Maybe it's a wasted mind is a terrible thing.
I would hope that any lawyer worth their slat...er, salt, would point out that dyslexia, or stupidity isn't against the law, and while it is probable that the ex keyed the car, it is possible for someone else to do it. For example, another ex of the cad may want him to get in trouble, and framed him for it.
Pocket calls, ass calls, whatever you call them, are the reason I use a clam shell phone.
And I use old ones because of all the privacy invasions inherent with the "new, cool latest, surf the web while using the gps features" POS's current today.
Give me a phone I can use in a emergency when I am away from home. Period. I don't want a camera, a game platform, a mp3 player, a way to access my e-mail, a gps, etc. I have all those things. If one of them breaks I go get a new one. If I have all those things on one device, and one of them breaks, I have to replace them all.
LOL. Another failure of our educational system.
Our public school system has clearly failed if it can't even teach its students to spell.
; )

Wish my son were old enough that I could, in good conscience and with humor, use this story to emphasize the virtue of good spelling skills. LOL.
The perp was heard telling the arresting officer, "Don't inslut my intelligence, bro."
This is funny. Oops.
Ha. Humorous the way it was written up as well.
Ann,
Being a lawyer I think you might like two OpEdNews articles I wrote. Here are the citations:
America’s Corpocracy: The Legacy of U.S. Supreme Court Justice, Lewis F. Powell (1907- 1998), December 13, 2011.
“Hands Up Corporate Crooks!” Not Really Unless it’s in a Movie. December 3,2011.
Appropros the 2nd one, the fellow who couldn't write "slut" will probably get far more punishment than any corporate crook ever will get.
Btw, our youngest daughter and husband got their doctorates at WI Madison years ago but are now in Seattle. We loved to visit Madison (in the Summer!)
On to another matter, a very serious one:
Our democracy and standard of living are going down the drain because of America’s corpocracy. It’s united and powerful; its opposition divided and weak. May I have your permission to include your blog site and your name on the list of bloggers supporting the idea of The Democracy Coalition? See my website, www.uschamberofdemocracy.com. Being on the list costs you nothing and gives you some exposure you didn’t have without it. I created it August 2011 and it has accumulated over 7800 hits so far (that's not much yet but it's growing). I'd also appreciate your signing the petition you see on the first page of the website.
Please let me hear from you “yes” or “no.”
Thanks, best regards,and happy Holidays,
Gary

"End undemocratic capitalism. End free market ballyhoo.
End fear mongering over national debt.
End privatization.
End economic disparities and poverty (e.g. require living wages).
End shut-out capitalists (e.g. expand employee stock ownership).
End financial speculation (e.g. bar the trading of derivatives).
End exploitative globalization (i.e. bar corporations from unfair foreign practices).
End unsustainable development.
End elitist pay without performance (i.e. end unconscionable and undeserved pay)."
And the best part....."Shrink the Big Beast (i.e. reduce size of government to optimum size)."
Unclear how you plan to insert the governments nose in everything above with a shrinking government. Shoot, the committee to determine "unconscionable and undeserved pay" requires thousands of people who have never met a payroll. Where you going to get them? Ending poverty, why hasn't ANYONE tried that one before?
Anyway, back to the topic at hand. How did he spell "dumbass"?
And to think people try to tell me that proper spelling doesn't matter, as long as "they can figure out what you mean"...
If he'd had an iPhone 4s this wouldn't have happened.
One time, this guy I went out with a couple times saw me downtown with my brother, and proceeded to send me like twenty text messages calling me a "fucking slute" and a "worthless slute" and telling me he had no time for "backstabbbing slutes."
It was kind of charming because "slute" sounds like a creature from Super Mario. The Magical Slute who lives in Slute Kingdom.
Anyway, I don't know what it is about jealous men that makes "slut" so hard to spell.
Guy spells one word wrong and it's a crime?
WV: fulin. See, even my PC does it.
Yet another victim of the look-say method of teaching reading.
Is it a crime to write sult on someone's car? Clearly he was trying to insult her but can one be prosecuted for trying to insult someone but failing through incompetence (or dyslexia) to actually do so?
What if he actually managed to spell slut correctly, is that still a crime? One can hardly argue he damaged her car, given that the insult is gone in a second with a hose or washcloth.
That leaves libel, but is writing slut on someone's car a libel?
It seems to me it's clearly an opinion. The writer didn't say for instance that the woman was sleeping with her boss, her students or shagging the mailman--items that are verifiable in some way.
The only charge I can still think of is intentional infliction of emotional distress. But lots of people write lots of things about other people that inflict distress without still not being actionable.
It seems to me the guy was a dork but that's not a crime.
I've never seen it, but it's still hilarious.
Agree. A lot of devices are vulnerable today, with all the viruses. People stealing your credentials. That's a waste of time. Seems all the bad people do real good. The good people are still "trying" to make things better, but if they were bad, they'd have a virus made-up in 10 seconds (Well not literally, but you catch my drift...)
I agree. Since there is a lot of bullying. People picking on someone for having a big nose, let alone lack of grammar. No doubt.
Obviously...Lol...
