'These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
Note that the Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress wanted to have more oversight of Fannie & Freddy.
And we can now give up a big round of applause to the voters of Massachusetts's 4th congressional district for foisting this guy on the rest of us for the last 32 years, and they probably would've continued to do so on into the future. But even Barney couldn't feature that.
As everyone else says, about 20 years too late, but, apparently, that run at him last time threw quite a scare into him. Even Provincetown is sick of him (and you thought something like that beyond the realm of possibility). the only reason he's announcing now is so the machine can find a similar slug to replace him.
Hopefully, there will be some sort of justice for him in this life, given the financial mess he was so instrumental in creating.
Looking at the MA Congressional Delegation - Frank, Kerry, Bill Delahunt, and Ed Markey, I'm left wondering why the people of that state hate the rest of the country so much...

Well, we have much more affordable housing now. Heckava job Barney.

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, and those are pretty good odds for re- election.....If a Republican of Frank's speech impairment and girth were to come along, he would have been ridiculed into oblivion long since.
Had he been in the private sector, or a Republican, the Left would have been clamoring for an indictment and prison sentence ever since his boyfriend was discovered running a prostitution ring from his apartment.
You know, I think Barney Frank is a despicable human being who should have been voted out of office years ago, and would have been had he been a Republican, but he can't help his speech impediment.
BOSTON (FOX25, myfoxboston) - FOX25 has learned that Congressman Barney Frank was present during a marijuana arrest at James Ready's home in Ogunquit, Maine. Ready is well-known for his relationship with Congressman Frank.
According to a police report, police charged Ready with marijuana possession, cultivation and use of drug paraphernalia in August of 2007. Ready admitted to civil possession and paid a fine. The remaining charges were dismissed in 2008.
What I really had in mind was the unit's insistence that David Obey was in no danger of losing in 2010.
I said it's impossible to know why Obey retired. Just like when a Republican retires, or opts out running for a position, it would be impossible for me to know.
sorepaw said... Be careful with those references to internal polling...
Yes sir:
Frank’s campaign manager last year said his withering 2010 re-election effort spurred the congressman to think seriously about retirement, even saying a few days after the election that it would be his last one.
Frank wanted to announce that this would be his final term immediately afterward, but decided against it, said Kevin Sowyrda, the campaign manager.
Rep. Frank represents my mother's Congressional district. His tenure should have been an embarassment to every voter in that district, but said voters, mom included, continued to vote for him. Rep. Frank's long tenure in office says a lot more about the reactionary "liberalism" of Massachusetts voters than about Rep. Frank.
It's not Fwank because he's gay, it's Fwank because the bastard has a speech impediment.
Ah, junior high school humor. Shoulda known.
Garage, the egg is on your face. You were so excited to accuse someone of anti-gay prejudice that you jumped the gun. The guy talks like Elmer Fudd, which has nothing to do with his sexual preference. Please tune your anti-gaydar from libelous to truthful.
Good riddance this sub-human piece of shit who with Dodd, and the congressional black chorus in 2003 used the CRA (Community Reinvestment Act) to club lenders over the head to lend to those who couldn't afford their loans to begin with because it was racist, bigoted, homophobic, insensitive and just plain mean. Thanks you rancid piece of shit for putting our economy on a trajectory that will take a decade if not more to recover to appease your voter base and sticking it to the 'financial bullies' of the world. Fuck you, I hope you die today. You can't die fast enough for me, you mentally diseased malcontent. Rot in hell.
Good riddance. What upsets me is how pols in Washington (both parties) do damage to our country and ride off into the sunset with lucrative retirement perks, access to high paying lobbying jobs, etc. They are typically set for life and don't have to grind it out like the rest of us.
The era of Barney Frank won't really be over until the housing market is fixed, until the people who used Frank's cover to run Fannie and Freddie into the ground have been brought to justice, and until our deficit is under control.
We're going to be living with the legacy of Barney Frank for a long, long time.
Worthless, lying piece of shit. In other words, a typical Massachusetts Democrat. If he were being yanked out of office in felony chains, then he'd be a typical Democrat.
Garbage, you don't know jack about Massachusetts politics, so STFU and go back to wanking over your "Recall Scott Walker" petitions. Frank's seat (ugh) is the safest in MA next to Lurch. The Boston Globe this morning was full of interviews with the idiots in his district who excused his prostitution ring by saying "he was great at constituent service," his unutterable rudeness by saying "hey, he brought home the bacon" and his trashing of Freddie and Fannie by blaming it on the GOP and the Tea Party. His last elecction against Sean Bielat scared him shitless, as he came within a whisker of losing. My guess is that he sees a tidal wave of revulsion against the whole Washington political class and wants to walk out before he's frogmarched out.
Watch for John Tierney as the next MA Dem to skip town. He also had a close election last time, since his wife was involved in a money-laundering scheme with her felon brothers, but Tierney lied well enough about his ignorance to squeak by. But now new charges are being brough against her, so I expect Lyin' John to whine that he needs to be comforting his wife at such a stressful time, and so - with much regret - needs to resign.
Would that there were justice in this world. Few things would please me more than a sallow, sweat-drenched Frank being wheeled in a tumbril to the guillotine.

Who was Frank going to lose to
You never fail to bring the stupid garage:
hile party loyalists insist that Frank’s district is heavily Democratic, the 71-year-old congressman admitted yesterday he’s stepping down because his newly drawn district would be harder to win.
“I would have had to work very hard,” said Frank, who has served in Congress for 32 years and faced a brutal re-election battle in 2010. “I think I would have won, but I do know this — it would have been a tough campaign.”
Seriously, you are so dumb, why do you comment here?
But sincerely, I am of the tendency society should mock nearly everything, especially those in charge. Some it is going to be high-minded, however, a lot of it will be juvenile.
Once a society allows itself to become easily offended, and outraged, then they are forever at the mercy of those things, those words to continually traumatize them. Political correctness victimizes everyone.

What'll we do witout Bawney Fwank?
Pwobabwy get a wittle twuf for a change,...
Good widdence.
The era of Barney Frank went on too long. I'm sure he's earned his pension.
His tenure in Congress in a nutshell:
'These two entities -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac -- are not facing any kind of financial crisis,'' said Representative Barney Frank of Massachusetts, the ranking Democrat on the Financial Services Committee. ''The more people exaggerate these problems, the more pressure there is on these companies, the less we will see in terms of affordable housing.''
Note that the Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress wanted to have more oversight of Fannie & Freddy.
Frank and the Democrats fought it at every turn.
The damage he did to this country is immeasurably large.
I for one would like to see him do one more term: 15 to life.
Barney Frank is deserving of many things, including jail time.
He is most certainly not deserving of the term, "era."
Here's hoping the vile troll is forever associated with Chris Dodd and the Fannie/Freddie debacle. It's the only legacy he's earned.
wv: priapi: many penises? On some days, wv really nails it, so to speak.
Good. Fucking. Riddance. That man may have done more damage to our nation's economy than anyone else alive.
And we can now give up a big round of applause to the voters of Massachusetts's 4th congressional district for foisting this guy on the rest of us for the last 32 years, and they probably would've continued to do so on into the future. But even Barney couldn't feature that.
We're gonna need another Fat Toad.
It was beyond my comprehension when the voters of his district returned him in 2010. How stupid can you get?
Be still, my heart!

Good news he is gone, bad news is The Corner says that "Maxine Waters is slated to be the ranking Dem on the banking committee."
The horror . . .
There's bound to be a memoir coming soon that you could order on Amazon. The preliminary title is Pimpin' My Pad.
"Maxine Waters is slated to be the ranking Dem on the banking committee."
That's not funny!
Oh. You're serious.

A gaping a-hole if there ever was one.
One of the men at the center of the mortgage scandal, that's brought the country to it's knees, waltzes in and waltzes out and that's the end of it.
Except for the accolades because he's gay.
Can anybody say we got fucked?

The ass-fucking continues, and will continue until morale improves.

You can fool some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, and those are pretty good odds for re- election.....If a Republican of Frank's speech impairment and girth were to come along, he would have been ridiculed into oblivion long since.
I have often wondered, if he wasn't gay, whether he wouldn't have been run out of office (or in jail) for his corruption and incompetence?

Haha. Barney Fwank. Hehe. Get it? Fwank. He's gay ya know. Tee-hee.

Barney's earning power just went up a lot more than that.
He served the too big to fail community well.

That should buy us another month!
go to jail, go directly to jail...
We have seen the House Financial Services Committee as tragedy; it will now repeat itself as farce.

According to CNBC on Power Lunch he has shown "brilliance in Congress".
Thank goodness we are going to have a little less "brilliance".
I can hardly wait to see what new "brilliant" person Massachusetts will put out there!
I suspect he has been reading the internal polling and figures its over--just my thought
Now that Frank's following in Dodd's footsteps and leaving, it's time to leave Frank-n-Dodd as well. Repeal it. Totally. Completely.
While you're at it, repeal Sarbanes-Oxley and Davis-Bacon as well.

Did he ever say to himself, "I am a trusted servant of the people" or was it "I can serve up to me and mine all the riches the Republic can provide."

Yes. Plenty of R's have retired, no?
Barney Frank is packing it in?
We'll survive that corrupt pork-toad, what we can't survive are the idiots who put him there, and kept re-electing him.
