My wife is a Yankees fan, and I'm a Brewers fan. We were holding out for a World Series with those two teams but... It would have been the Rebel Alliance against the original Evil Empire it it had come off.
The piece of memorabilia I want is a hand drawn (by Ruth) sheet of paper for a Washington hotel for their 10 day stay there...across the top, the columns were "Days", and the rows were "Hours" (like a spreadsheet). In the box that is the intersection of the two, Ruth has:
What food he wants. What booze he wants. What hookers he wants. (by name!)
I was wrong about ARod's contract. He's only owed $181 million more if he gets all his HR milestone bonuses. It looks like he'll only make two of them at best, so he'll probably cost no more than $163 million over the next six years.
Could be a real bargain if we get some serious inflation in the next couple of years.
Denial, then anger, then bargaining, then depression, and finally acceptance. I know just what my Yankee fan friends are going through. [You take Carl Crawford off our hands and we'll take away your AJ Burnett problem.]
As an old Brooklyn Dodger fan, who hasn't forgotten the '57 Series, few things are ever sweeter than seeing Steinbrenner's Team on the losing side of the scoreboard.
PS So this is why you're posting so late these days.
edutcher --- When you refer to '57....are you really a Braves fan? Or as a Brooklyn fan are you referring to the '55 Dodgers with Johnny Podres 2 wins over the Yanks?

Rooting for the Yankees is like rooting for Microsoft.
I thought the Brewers had KRod!! I have 2 extra tix for the Brewer game tomorrow..right field loge bleachers. Let me know.
So Boston's suckage is only relative. All three Eastern AL teams choked.
We were rooting for the Tigers here at Meadhouse.
We were rooting for the Tigers here at Meadhouse.
Likewise at the Chippodrome.
This is no time for schadenfreude, though. Condolences to the Trooper. No ring = lost season for NYY fans.
There can be no sweeter taste than the bitter tears of Yankees fans.

The Yankees need to spend some of their millions of dollars on buying better bats that don't break when you need them.
It was an exciting game. Sorry Trooper.
Enjoying the Yankee loss tonight dangerously tempts fate. Wait 24 hours before exulting.
Brief exultation is needed...then...take a deep breath...and know you face Texas on Saturday.... but in our case, with a fresh Verlander!
Besides, AA....not celebrating after beating the Yankees? Unthinkable...
Babe Ruth hung his manager upside down by his ankles out a train window after a World Series win... Now that's a party!!
Ty Cobb used to celebrate a win by hanging a Negro outside a train window.
But he was a Tiger not a Yankee.
@rcocean--omit "outside a train window" and you may be on to something.
Chip S,
If @Ron had replaced "hung a manager by his ankles" with "Hung a whore by her ankles while eating a hot dog" he'd be on the something too.
Ah, the good old days.
Nowadays when players hang their managers out to dry it winds up costing somebody his job.
Did we have a designated Trooper tormentor?
Yankees sucks!!!
Besides, AA....not celebrating after beating the Yankees? Unthinkable...
I agree with Ron.
@Lem--Sox fans are not exactly in prime gloating position. We should be content to get by on quiet satisfaction.
I'm a brokenhearted Yankee fan.
Now I'm rooting for the Fa-fa-fa-Phils.
But I could be persuaded to root for the malt beveragers.
We'll see.
Cheer up, Quayle. There are only 6 years @$30 million ea. left on ARod's contract.
@Ron you should celebrate. Here in Wisconsin we need to win one more game.
Thank you for the kind words. You always know who your friends are when you are down. I have addressed the series already in the proper venue.
See you next year.
Here in Wisconsin we need to win one more game.
No interest in the NL pennant or the WS?
Chip, do you think Texas would be interested in him a shortstop?
I mean, they still owe him money.
Maybe there could be some kind-a New York type deal?
Nonsense, Qualye. You can't be brokenhearted; Yankees fans don't have hearts. Their blood is pumped by the raw malice of Satan.
I'd try the Mets. They seem to like expensive, washed-up guys.
And besides, Chip, what is paying A-Rod $30M a year going to get ya if the guy has the wrong girlfriend going into the playoffs?
That part was neglected in his contract - the girlfriend approval clause.
Good point, Quayle. Jeter came back from the dead after Minka Kelly dumped him.

Usually The Bambino got 3-5 hookers a day!
Sultan of ...something!

ARod's whiff with the bases loaded in 7th was sweet. It's hard to make contact with one hand around your throat.
When the chips are down, down goes ARod.
What rc said, originally.

Some nice Brewers seats still available at Stubhub. Row 6 behind the visitor's dugout: $200.
No joy here in Mudville.
Oh well, buncha old Yankees crap out. Could be a metaphor/simile thingy here.
Well, baseball season's over. On to football.

"No interest in the NL pennant or the WS?"
As Jesus said: Let the day's own troubles be sufficient for the day.
On behalf of Red Sox Nation:
Thank you Tigers.
(I figured that'd be more classy than the usual cry of Yankees Suck….)
The Yanks departure softens a bit of the sting of the last week's heart wrenching season finale, "Night of the Choking Dogs".
Here in Wisconsin we need to win one more game.
The magic number is 9.
nds, I'll be there, too. Worse seats than you, but still there.
"Rodriguez struck out swinging as the Tigers celebrate on the field."
Interesting description. Did the celebration start with the wind-up, the pitch, scoreboard prompt,....?
This time yesterday, the Yanks were pretty full of themselves.
And by Yanks I mean the whole tawdry Yankee Nation.
Thought you were cute ripping the bandaid off our pitcher-
It appears the Tigers ripped the bandaid off the franchise that constantly shouts: "Hey, where's our Trophy?! WE PAID FOR IT"
Go Brewers...
Born and raised just north of Detroit - - Go Tigers, and Lions (no bears)!
