Jay Carney sloughs off the call for a special prosecutor in the "Fast and Furious" investigation.

"I think it's the biannual call for a special counsel by this particular congressman... Once every six months, we hear something similar."

It's just like all that other stuff you didn't notice. Nothing to see here.

AND: "Is CBS News Silencing Fast and Furious Reporter?"

Forbes had a good article on Fast and Furious

This is a serious scandal. Holder is right in the middle of it.

"The president believes he's an excellent attorney general and has great confidence in him, and we absolutely know that the testimony he gave was consistent and truthful," said White House press secretary Jay Carney.

"Great Job Brownie" made it to a lot of campaign ads...

I bet O'bama will come to regret that second hand complement.

Fred4Pres said...

Jay Carney can whistle but this is not going away.

Jay Carney is a nasty little punk. It's hard to fathom why any politician would want Jay Carney as a spokesman.

Like the news, the important thing is to forward the narrative.

Nothing else matters.

Poor Jay Carney. He makes all those people who worked the same job for Bush look competent. That's not an easy feat.

wow Fred,

I just read the Forbes piece, the 2 things I was most struck by:

1. The O'bamites: the U.S. Justice Department hasn’t made it clear to tell congressional investigators when the Fast and Furious operation began and who authorized it;

2. The atachments show that directors from 7 different DOJ Major agencies, (FBI, DEA, ATF, BOP, EOUSA, MS, OCDETF,) plus 5 US attorney's are in a meeting and we're supposed to believe nobody in the DOJ Head office knows what's going on? IN 2009!!! And why are you redacting the names of Senate confirmed Feds out of meeting minutes (but leaving their titles in) unless you are both stupid and covering up. Jeez...

Fred4Pres said...

Panicing?

Ingraham: So they were literally screaming at you?

Attkisson: Yes. Well the DOJ woman was just yelling at me. The guy from the White House on Friday night literally screamed at me and cussed at me. [Laura: Who was the person? Who was the person at Justice screaming?] Eric Schultz. Oh, the person screaming was [DOJ spokeswoman] Tracy Schmaler, she was yelling not screaming. And the person who screamed at me was Eric Schultz at the White House."

The media (other than Fox) questioning the White House!

If Clemens can be indicted for lying to congress about taking steroids, and Martha Stewart can be indicted for lying to investigators, and Libby can be indicted for lying about a conversation with a reporter, then Holder can be indicted for lying about when he knew about F&F.

Unequal enforcement of the law, which I have watched for many decades now, is fundamentally very evil in my opinion.

Looks that way to me, though I'll punt on the accessory charge.

If Rep. Smith calls for a special prosecutor biannually, I think that says more about the Administration than Smith. Then again, according the the press, this administration is squeaky clean. I think Fast & Furious occurred right between the press obsessing over Obama's bowling score and the press obsessing over Obama's shirtless Hawaii photos. Clearly the media has more pressing stories to investigate than the federal government's sale of guns to Mexican drug cartels, which were in turn repatriated into domestic crime syndicates. How mundane! Snooze factor: 11.

The Drill SGT said...

This is not the first time Holder has lied to Congress. It's at least the third time. He thinks he is too smart to get called on it.

He did it in 2001 when the Congress was investigating the Rich Pardon and in his confirmation hearing in 2009, when asked about the Marc Rich Pardon that he managed by bypassing the pardon attorney and by not asking for input from the convicting USA. He told the Senate that he didn;t know squat about Rich except what he read in the Jack Quinn Pardon request.

A lie. For Holder was the US Attorney for DC in 1995, when he investigated and indicted Marc Rich...

Pastafarian said...

With some scandals, the big crime is the coverup. In this case, the original crime is shocking: The BATF gave firearms to known criminals in Mexico, to make it seem as though the flow of guns from the US to Mexican gangs was bigger than it really is, to give the administration an excuse to curtail second amendment rights. And people have died as a result.

This is the most serious crime committed by any administration in my lifetime. And no one has even heard of it, other than readers of conservative blogs.

Look how far we've come! It's no longer hope and change -- no longer about transparency or cleaning up Washington. It's about clinging to the reminiscence of Republicans who also got into trouble.

"'Bout time this story starts to get traction. This is the smoking gun that brings down the Angry Sock Monkeys administration. Yes, I said sock monkey , as in he is a puppet that is moved by others behind the scenes. Valerie Jarret is his personal "handler". Look to Soros, and Bill Ayres for the marching orders.

Thank God for the honest patriots at the field level for keeping the flow of information flowing. To see the "real" seamy side of this scandal, go to "sipsey streetirregulars"

And the President and Attorney General both have minions who scream at Cheryl Attkisson for injecting some truthful reporting into Fast and Furious. Imagine, even lap dogs like CBS occasionally lapse into reporting the truth.

Never has a special prosecutor been more needful for this nation's political health. Tar and feathers...

If this were civilians I'd agree with you, but since it's not, see my early post about Pres. Pardons.

The only people hurt by this are the victims, and this reporter who will be shunned by the O'bot media for the rest of her life. She has committed apostasy in their eyes. And like the Muslims that they admire so much, apostasy is worthy of death.

We got special prosecutor in the ludicrous Joe Wilson/Valerie Plame nonsense. Scooter Libby was sentenced to prison for less lying than Eric Holder has been caught doing.

Bruce Hayden said...

Been wondering for quite some time when Ann would have a post on this subject. Thanks.

My understanding was that Rep. Issa was trying to delay this through the fall, so that he would have enough information that he could keep the special prosecutor's feet to the fire here. The problem being that U.S. Attorneys are typically appointed as special prosecutors. USAs are highly political, were appointed by President Obama, and vetted by and work for AG Holder. So their independence in this case may be questionable.

But the scandal and the call for the special prosecutor won't wait here. AG Holder has been caught lying under oath to Congress - worse than what either Scooter Libby or Roger Clements were caught doing.

RIP Steve Jobs. Gonna miss your attitude, man. And the vision thing, though the iPad is a solution for a non-existent problem IMAO.

The last time I bought an Apple hardware product it was Macintosh PPC 7600 a/v. Ultra cool in '96. Ultimately I upgraded the processor to a 400Mhz 604ev, the RAM to 1GB, added an ATI Radeon video accelerator, and upped the system to OS9. I had it on my credenza basically as a toy, but it was by far the fastest workstation on the company LAN. Later I decided to run an intranet web server for the MIS department, and my under-utilized Mac seemed like a good candidate for the job. Then I realized OS9 had no native web server capability. (At this time Microsoft had a personal web server available for Windows 98 through TechNet) I looked around and found a third-party MacOS web server for $500! Half a grand for a web server?! Mac developers must assume Mac owners are made of money. Out of pure cussedness I dumped OS9 and installed RedHat 5.2 on my formerly cool and now totally eccentric PPC7600 a/v.

I still buy Apple software from time to time, my latest purchase was Lion, but I run my OS X license on an i7-powered home-built Hackintosh that eats mere iMacs as a mid-day snack.

Sooner or later it will all come out and heads will roll (in Mexico they do already, literally.)

Obama just hopes it will be later, AFTER the 2012 elections.

Yes Bush's Admin. let some guns walk, BUT they were stopped BEFORE they crossed the border. Holder didn't even try to stop the guns or trace them. I guess it was all a gun-control ploy from the start. Hundreds dead.

No this won't go away.

I am sorry. I cannot believe that the president of the United States was not in some way aware of this.

What else did he have in mind when he told Sarah Brady that they were working "under the radar" on gun control?

Inquiring minds want to know.

And Jay Carney is full of it. Anytime one has to say they have 100% confidence in one of their underlings who has been caught doing something wrong, they are getting ready for a serious hoof in mouth infection.

I think Holder should do some prison time, myself. He has served the people of America poorly and stacked the DOJ with racist zealots.

Oh yeah -- and the Marc Rich thing and the New Black Panthers - and let us not forget Holder's role in the FALN commutation by Clinton ...

Attorney general nominee Eric H. Holder Jr. repeatedly pushed some of his subordinates at the Clinton Justice Department to drop their opposition to a controversial 1999 grant of clemency to 16 members of two violent Puerto Rican nationalist organizations, according to interviews and documents…

…President Clinton’s decision to commute prison terms caused an uproar at the time. Holder was called before Congress to explain his role but declined to answer numerous questions from angry lawmakers demanding to know why the Justice Department had not sided with the FBI, federal prosecutors and other law enforcement officials, who were vehemently opposed to the grants.

While this story isn't going away, it will never go anywhere. The big difference with Fast and Furious and Watergate, Libby, etc., is that they involved Republicans. Those stories never went away, and were constantly talked about every single day in the MSM until the results that the MSM wanted, came true.

Besides, and this is important, Holder and obama are black, and the MSM will not be part of anything that would remove either of them.

Funny thing, in all those other incidences, nobody died, yet here we are with, what, two border patrol agents dead, and hundred of Mexicans killed.

My suggestion would be this: don't do anything now, and wait until obama loses, then go after everyone involved in the sordid adventure.

It'l be a blanket pardon issued 3=4 weeks before the official changing of administrations. Maybe 5-6 weeks tops. Holder is the angry sock monkeys firewall. He can dance naked in the streets (well actually dole out money to Dem bundlers fronting failing companies) while Holder is in office.

Then about a month after the election, Holder will step down for "personal reasons". We'll have to listen to another speech from the one. Then quietly, like a knife in the dark, a stroke of a pen, and everyone's clean as the snow in Chicago on a friday rush hour in winter.

You know that color of snow that's kinda like ash gray or pavement with salt on it? Makes you wanna get a big handful and eat it? Feel the grit from the road on your teeth... its not nice but MAN! it's real. Well maybe not. Welcome to post-Obama politics.

Fred4Pres said...

As Radley Balko noted, The Obama Administration sold guns to Mexican Drug Cartels, but if you are taking medical marijuana you are disqualified from buying or owning a gun.

A bit of hypocrisy.

But when you realize the Administration started F&F to discredit gun rights in the Unites States, it all makes sense. This was not just a mistake that went horribly wrong. This was a lot worse than that.
