Here is a list of roses that were named after famous people.

The Hass Avocado (the good black kind with the wrinkly skin) was named after Rudolph Hass, a Whittier California postman who planted "the Mother Tree" in his backyard.

Marica said...: Oh, please. Carrots now days are mostly orange. That's true. Carrots in the olden days were red. And some were white. The important thing to remember is that carrots are the roots of Queen Anne's Lace.

But your question- are they orange for political reasons?-- assumes that carrots care what color they are, and further, that an individual carrot could decide. Or that there was some omnipresent force deciding for them.

kimsch said...: I made ginger carrot soup this weekend. It's even vegan since I let the carrots, onion, and ginger make the broth. Served cold with a dollop of Greek yogurt it becomes lacto/ovo vegetarian, but still delicious. And quite orange. My fingers were orange for a few hours after peeling and cutting two pounds of carrots.
