Do you know why doggies lick you in the face? Wolf pups lick adult wolves' mouths when they return from the hunt in order to trigger a regurgitation reflex. This is how they get their nourishment.
There. Now you know. I hate knowing that, but I feel better when I share.
When I first noticed the photos that show the ceiling of the outdoor area I thought that the tongue and grove planking was also the ceiling inside the home.
As I looked more closely at the pictures I realized that what I thought was inside was actually outside. I was seeing a view of the outside ceiling through the transom window above the main windows. I had thought the transom view was indoors.
Even so, I like the house as is.
But, I really like the look of clear vertical grain (which this may be) T&G lids when they appear to be contiguous between indoor and covered outdoor areas. And, I'd (assuming you have a view worth seeing) also like to see the "contiguous" interior and covered porch ceiling slope upwards from inside to out. Finally, I'd like to see some "structural" stonework and wood siding (e.g.5/4 vertical grain mahogany, lapped vertically) that also flow from inside to out.
It feels comfortable (imho) when a home's structural elements seem to flow uninterruptedly between inside and outside living areas.
P.S. Nice dogs.
I just had my sister's two poodle-mutants (aka labraddodles) shaved today because I'm taking care of them for a couple weeks--they were matted. Like (presumably) Irene, I brush my dog (which (unlike Irene's dogs) is also a so-called labradoodle), so I don't need to have her shaved.
There is an Angentinian film about an almost blind old man that "lost" his dog (he might have run away) and sets out to find him, on foot, hundreds of miles away, on the word of a truck driver, who told the old man that he had seen the dog.

Freddy Hill ... you are right about how wolf pups seek food from an adult ... and not just their own parent(s), but from other wolves in the pack who also contribute to raising them.
However, wolves and dogs, both of which I've spent a fair amount of time around, also do this as adults, as a sign of non-aggression, or subservience to a more dominant animal, or just to show their accepting attitude as a pack member.
They ain't always looking for some puke snacks :-)
Apricot poodles are great dogs. Heck, I like all standard poodles for their intelligence and the ease with which they can be trained. Some of them are a bit too skittish for my taste, but most of the ones I see are wonderful dogs.
WV: rumbl - what Irene the hurricane is doing off the coast right now.
This might be.. I dont know.. dont say anything I'm just thinking aloud.. allow me to retort.
You guys have Madison Man, Garage, Irene and a few others I cant recall this minute.. thats a cafe right there.
I guess you would need a reason to have a meetup..
I cant think of a reason to have a meetup.. other than so it can be posted on the blog.. and the blog is here.. wherever here is.. of course Palladian says there is no we in here.
Some day, my wife and I may choose a dog. For the last 20 years, dogs have chosen us.
Heck, one evening during an Autumn downpour, we pulled over into a driveway where a dog was sniffing around trashcans. My wife opened the back passenger door and the dog leapt onto the back seat.
It had a tag, she called the county Auditor, went through a menuing system, got a phone number, called it...
...we were sitting in the owner's driveway!
Car door re-opened, the dog gleefully ran down the hill into the house's now-open front door.
What a gorgeous dog! Love the caramel color and that they are called 'apricots'. The color is picked up in the wood and the rug, so you chose well! The dog, that is. I love poodles - as DBQ said, so intelligent!
Althouse you are welcome to get your face licked by my beagle if you come to the left coast. She might even bay in your honor.

Is that Irene's?
He is, Lem. We shamelessly invited ourselves over after we heard about their new puppy, Poppy.
AHHH!!!! I LOVE POODLES! WHAT A DELIGHT!
Wow..
I'm having a fly on the wall moment.

Toy poodles always look sort of depressed. Like they're thinking "damnit... I look like a frikkin' toy poodle".

That's exactly how ours look all the time..

Obviously, Poppy loves Aunt Ann.
And Aunt Ann loves her right back.
But I don't think she regrets, having decided she needed something more in her life, choosing Meade over a dog.
PS Is that Irene in the background of the last photo?

Oh, so cute! Our little black poodle mix is a delight - when he's not a pain in the behind ....
Cute dog; what's not to like?
But why a poodle over another breed?
I propose that the presumption will be that family conferences on dog selection are open to the public.
We deserve to see how such decisions are arrived at.
We shallllll ooooovercoooooome sommmme daaaaaaaaay

Meade, you did not invite yourself shamelessly!
pbetc, the house is very comfortable.
Revanant, they're not toy poodles. The little one is an eleven-week-old puppy.
edutcher, that's me!
Pogo, I've had poodles my entire life, and that's the breed to which I am accustomed.
Althouse, thank you!
Irene, I was just being silly; riffing on the prior Abrahamson thread.
That poodley face is reason enough.
Pogo, haha! I see.
There are no family conferences here because Mr. Irene and I don't have children who demand conferences
In the third photo, Baci is sticking out his tongue in that cute little way he often does.
There are no family conferences here..
Maybe not there but.. what about here ;)
Lem:
rawr.
Hear Me Roar..
lol
Like Pogo, I go off on tangents myself.. harmless Althousian tangents.
Irene, your house is beautiful. (And so clean!)
We have a new pup in our neighborhood, but it's not poodle. Tremendously cute.
Lem, I think tangents make people (and conversations) interesting.
MadisonMan, thank you. The house is clean because we have a good maid ("Irene").
Cute Dog!

So, there you/we/us/me are.
Nice dog and clean house.
Anyone hear of vandalism at a private school in Milwaukee because they are allowing Governor Walker to visit?
Nice doggy.
But people who can't get Welsh Terriers get poodles!
For as long as i can recall Obama rips on Wall St fat cats/Corporate jets but when his friend Warren Buffer makes 280m profit in a day (nttiawwt) Obama calls to congratulate???
Nay.. Buffet is throwing Obama a fundraiser.
Is Drudge the only one connecting the fat cat WH cozy dots?
Remember how much it was made of Bush "millionaire friends"?
Dont hold your breath waiting for the MSM to ask these questions.
That is a beautiful-looking dog.

Is Obama Warren Buffet's lapdog?

Nice to match a kind face to all the kind words.
Lem, I think tangents make people (and conversations) interesting.
After proofreading her papers while she was getting her BSN, I've learned to leave the tangents to you-know-who.
Oh how cute!!
A Standard Poodle is so fun. Such very smart dogs. They make wonderful hunting companions. (that is what they were originally bred for you know)
Congratulations on a great addition to the Irene family.
DBQ, thank you. They are (largish) minatures. Same family line.
"Poppy" is very good at hunting spiders in the basement.
Legs crossed very lady like, even wearing pants. You were trained well, professor. With many women of this era, Stevie Wonder can beaver shoot!
What happened to the "photos by Meade" tag?
ndspinelli, thank you. My Mother trained me well.
(I'm not a "professor;" I am an adjunct. Like Obama.)
*winks*
Too cute, Irene. Are they apricots?
I'd post a picture of my miniature black poodle from my teens if I could easily lay my hands on the photo and find the printer cord :)
deborah, the two boys (Baci in the front and Rex, who appears partially in the background of the third photo) are "reds."
Poppy, the puppy, is "apricot."
Ah. Thanks, Irene.

Talking about dogs:

I'm glad animals can't talk or write in comment boxes. It's good to keep our canines out of one another's necks, and be so humane as we always are.
