we need a mondegreen or something to name these beautiful image caption comment thingys that professor althouse creates. it's a jamais vu situation. maybe "captionalogy."
The Blonde was on call for the Red Cross last night until midnight, but the phone rings at 2:30 because no one's covering, so she saddles up and goes down to Canton.
Reminds me of my own bad old days on call. Never fun when you wake up to the word, "crash".
This account in the New Yorker of SEAL Team Six's killing of Bin Laden is striking. It outlines many of the executive decisions Obama made that lead to the success of the goal of getting Bin Laden.
All the other threads are life and death political and it just occurred to me that there should be simple (because natural) rage at the pass statist overreach has brought us to. With the exception of the extremity of war the political should NEVER be life and death. The state should always be a background referee and insurer of orderly conditions. But it must never become the central fact of life.THIS is what follows: ruination of a lifetime's effort, a very real possibility. The Founders were right. And they probably knew it would come to this. You have to eat the full Satan sandwich before upchucking.
It seems Obama and the Congress have achieved a new consensus...
Sure, there's a consensus on the debt-ceiling agreement. But that's not the important one.
The more significant consensus is that big-government Democrats are welcome to participate in our Republic, as are big-government Republicans... but that the Tea Party people are "terrorists".
NYT called them extremist radical lunatics in its editorial today. I think they threw in hostage taking for spice. Biden was just repeating the talking points.
Behold, the new civility, Democrat version. Your opponents are not just your enemy, but the enemy of civil society.
"State election authorities are questioning whether a liberal group broke the law by offering both free food and free rides to vote in a hotly contested Senate recall election."

"Wisconsin Jobs Now held three parties last week and two Monday, all on Milwaukee's northwest side. Each party offered free food, prizes such as t-shirts and stuffed toys, face-painting for children, drawings for school backpacks - and free shuttles to Milwaukee City Hall, where voters could cast absentee ballots in the 8th Senate District contest."
Rep. Giffords was on the floor and voting in favor of the budget deal in the House today. She looks very drawn and weak in the photo that was taken. I am glad she was able to do this but can not avoid the feeling that there is some manipulation going on. Wish I did not feel that way.
Giffords was able to speak and interact with the others on the house floor.
Your heart has to go out to her.
She reminded me of films of April 1945 concentration camp survivors moving hopefully around the crowd in a weakened state with body weight and hair nearly gone.

That's very interesting. I'm from near her district and not a word about this in the local news. If the past coverage is any indication this would have been huge headlines in the local rag.

Can you imagine the racist outrage if Republicans tried to lure blacks to the polls with BBQ Ribs?
I just watched the winning entry of the Powerline prize. Clever and cute, I guess... but impact? I can't imagine how, where or with whom. First graders, perhaps.
The point is not comfort in the conventional sense, but comfort derived from the mid-neolithic period. I think it was Sylvia Plath who said, That's not a chair, Silly, that's a Venetian rowboat.
Was there a warehouse sale on these acres of incool and uncomfortable chairs? Or does the interior designer of choice, surely there is only one, have an overstock herself? I am beginning to see how the tragic lives of Wisconsinites need a "set" to meander through, a veritable Marienbad of gloom and brooding spaces.

We could pass some circular cookies around, but a place with furniture like that would never allow it, crumbs would spoil the Modern cleanliness.
We need some sharp lines.
Without a grid we will end up where we started. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

PS I'm assuming that's detail from a painting.

Lovely. Those look like Pierre Paulin "Orange Slice" chairs.
I love those chairs.
This account in the New Yorker of SEAL Team Six's killing of Bin Laden is striking. It outlines many of the executive decisions Obama made that lead to the success of the goal of getting Bin Laden.
That photo looks like an illustration from a mid-century Architectural Digest and the inspiration for a Shag print.
The "orange slice" chairs have been featured here before.
Nice photo - and the chairs even have some padding!
Let's be all circumdecisive!
Yes, I'd like a satan sandwich on rye, please.

You want freedom fries with that?
My dad forbid my mom to buy chairs that had legs that jutted out. He said all he'd do is break a toe as he walked by.
I think he was right.
I think if I end up in Hell everything around me will look like it's sold at Design Within Reach.
And featured prominently on Althou.se
Nice Photograph and shadows
Now that the Vice President of the United States has declared the Tea Party to be terrorists, are they going to be rounded up and sent to Gitmo?
Seriously, this should be an impeachable offense.
And Bumblefuck Biden should be careful what he wishes for.

I wonder if there are triple honeycomb blinds on the windows?
Freedom fighters, not terrorists.
Get it right.
The Other McCain is starting to deal with Wisconsin stuff...hey that is Althouse territory!
As Syrian government troops are killing their own citizens who only want democracy, Joe Biden says that Tea Party members are terrorists.
What a delusional bunch of liars we have in the administration.
And besides, as has surely been pointed out by others, the Tea Party was only conducting a Kinetic Fiscal Action.
Biden is trying to appease the Libtard base.

They really don't handle losing well.
Combination of free food, rides to vote raises questions

Kyrie Eleison.
Veep Clueless makes this remark as Rep. Giffords returned to the House to cast her first vote since being shot in the head.
Biden told Senate Democrats that Republican leaders have “guns to their heads” in trying to negotiate deals.

Ribs are not racist. Chicken is, but only if deep fried.
Oh Shit, Ann
That is a spectacular photo. It like Hockney meets Man Men.
