"You're Gonna Pay."

Everyone's talking about the anthem of the ages.

ADDED: The Crack Emcee is talking about it. And not in a nice way.

Yes, Crack. Alienation can happen to individuals. But you know what I know? Back in 1968 WE were RIGHT! The party (and the government), were WRONG!

Once you know you're right, everybody else can go to hell.

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

Another lesson I learned, Crack, is that Toscanini was a terror with a baton. (In rehearsals.) He'd stop the music with a wave. And, god help the player that didn't see this. And, got lost in the music.

When my son was in 6th grade, in "middle school" ... I thought the band teacher was a sadist. I sat in on a class where he kept doing this.

He said it's easy to get people to start playing. And, tough to get kids to stop. He got the whole class stopping! And, he did this to show off.

Never is a concert like what happens in rehearsals!

It shows ya, too, that kids learn in spite of their parents.

Crack - as usual you are utterly lacking in humor. You must be a real hoot to be around.

Alex বলেছেন...

Carol - I envy you. You went through the whole mid 60s cultural revolution and Woodstock. They say it was the best time ever.

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

Crack, please stay focused.

YOU are right!

Only the lonely is just a song. I always go to where you link.

Rachel বলেছেন...

Jeez...

Reading this, I'm kinda hoping I don't win the whole megillah.

Crack, I read you. I don't always agree, but I like you. Without commenting on anything else, I think you've got to unbend a bit on music. You seem to dislike pop, and this song is pop-punk. I happen to really dig it. (And for those confused, the graphics are actually pretty darn hip -- check out knowyourmeme or something from time to time.) Do you also hate Social D, and rockabilly, or anything with a 1-4-5 progression? Johnny Cash? C'mon, man. And if I do win, I'm sure as hell not reading your blog for awhile.

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

We are all who we are, Alex. Fuck off. Leave Crack alone. When he writes and posts, I listen.

Woodstock, however, was full of rain. And, mud. And, I loved the man I was with. So what?

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

You know, Rachel, if you play an instrument, your parents were generous.

(I was told this when my son was six. A mom, who had a daughter who was asmatic and shy. Was told by the kid's pediatrician, that IF she invested in music, it would help her daughter, emensely. So the mom said she'd go out and buy a flute. "HELL NO, YOU WON'T" said the doctor! Your daughter is shy. And, she's gonna have to compete at school ... to play in the orchestra and band. "YOU will go out and buy a French Horn."

That made all the difference!

Kid made it to Oberlin.

Some kids can't handle pressure.

And, some kids have parents who invest in themselves. The ones who sacrifice, though, get kids to read music. And, then, these kids gotta practice. (They can't blow it off.)

Benefits only accrue over time.

Rachel বলেছেন...

Carol, I dig you too.

And, you probably know my folks if you hung with Michael Lang back in the day...

Support New Balance, still manufacturing in the US:

The $135-$150 New Balances are manufactured here in the states. The more normally-priced $65 ones are made in Taiwan or Viet Nam, I believe.

I laugh at the idea that anyone can *kill* the internet. It's like saying you can kill the air.

New Balance is a big Massachusetts employer.

Just got a new Consulting Gig at MathWorks. Fucking great company. I had two offers MathWorks or IRobot. I hope I made the right decision. IRobot is pretty cool too. I am so "Creative Economy".

It's is fucking Natick though, yuck.

But at $125.00/hour I can't complain. They are doing some shit with clouds and adding 800 new positions and need my strategic vision and "partnering" skills.

I may be conducting some social media network initiatives at Although during the ramp up. Stay tuned.

See ya Madison, I am off in two weeks.

Titus বলেছেন...

I really did enjoy the International Travel with the rich and very hot husband though....

I think I could get used to that life but it demands that you are always taking care of yourself.

Gym, mannies, peddies, Yoga, facials, clothes, waxing, teeth whitening, Ab Classes and gym, gym and more gym.

I think I have gone to every gym in Madison and they are all absolutely horrible. No hot hog anywhere.

Fred4Pres বলেছেন...

How about some Circle Jerks?

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

Sorry, Rachel. I have no idea who Michael Lang is.

I hung with a Derek Cohn. He was a returning vet from Nam.

He was the one who went to the Filmore East. And, he's the one who got the tickets to Woodstock.

I even remember his GTO. By Pontiac. Turquoise. And, the roof came down. Convertible. Leather seats.

And, I was in love.

So I learned to have disappointments early.

The sooner the better, I tell people, now.

Who is this Lang fella? Was he Chinese?

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

My goodness, Alex. @ 9:48 PM. You're watching my flank.

It's nice to know the Internet brings protections to parts of myself that had gone unknown.

Thank you very much.

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

Titus, for the first time, today. And, in another context, I saw

TITUS ANDROGYNOUS. As a takeoff against Shakespeare's Titus Andronicus.

It made me laugh. And, I thought of you.

Ann Althouse বলেছেন...

Hi, everybody. What a long thread!

The Crack Emcee বলেছেন...

Alex,

Crack - as usual you are utterly lacking in humor. You must be a real hoot to be around.

Dude, I watch Benny Hill and everything.

Carol_Herman,

Crack, please stay focused.

YOU are right!

Only the lonely is just a song. I always go to where you link.

Thanks, Carol. I found this for you, because you asked. This has nothing to do with mixing, but it's probably the most informative piece on the music business ever written. The writer produced Nirvana and a billion other well-known bands, and he, too, is known for his brutality with the truth. I think, after reading it, all of you might have a little more respect for what I've accomplished over the course of my career.

Everybody can't do it, y'all.

Rachel,

Crack, I read you. I don't always agree, but I like you. Without commenting on anything else, I think you've got to unbend a bit on music.

Wrong - we've got to raise our standards. When the death of Amy Winehouse reminds us how much better she was - one person - than almost anyone else writing, we've got to acknowledge music isn't about individual taste but that we're really scraping the bottom culturally.

The problem is our culture is filled with people who can't admit they're tasteless.

You seem to dislike pop, and this song is pop-punk. I happen to really dig it.

Dislike Pop? Are you kidding me? I didn't get AllenS or Sixty, this morning, but no sense of humor and don't like Pop? I don't know where you're getting THIS from.

And I'm sorry but, if you like this song, you must not like black people because no black person would willingly be caught within 10-miles of that.

Do you also hate Social D, and rockabilly, or anything with a 1-4-5 progression? Johnny Cash? C'mon, man.

I wrote and sang on this, you tell me.

And if I do win, I'm sure as hell not reading your blog for awhile.

Two things:

1) If you win, it's because Glenn Reynolds was judging.

2) I haven't heard your song, I think, but avoiding my blog will probably be a good idea anyway,....

Fred4Pres,

How about some Circle Jerks?

I think, after this thread, we've had enough of those.

And now that I've covered everybody, I just wanted to point you to a quote I found, from a pollster, that reminded me of what I said about my alienation:

GOVERNMENT operates by the wrong values and rules, for the wrong people and purposes, the Americans I’ve surveyed believe. Government rushes to help the irresponsible and does little for the responsible.

And I, most definitely, had nothing to do with electing this government.

Alright, if I forgot anybody I'm sorry, except for fucking Tyrone who I'm determined to forget anyway.

Good night, and I'll see you on the 'morrow,...

The Crack Emcee বলেছেন...

Hi, Ann!

Don't ask me anything!

Sometimes you have to be a musician to know what a load of shit some of this music is.

Alex বলেছেন...

This music is not shit:

Ecstasy of Gold

Rachel বলেছেন...

You're a better musician than Johnny Cash? I call.

To quote Oz (the character, not the television show): "Well, other bands know more than three chords. Your professional bands can play up to six, sometimes seven completely different chords."

The Crack Emcee বলেছেন...

Rachel,

My original answer to you is caught in the spam filter. Check back for the whole thing.

In the meantime, this will have to do.

Rachel বলেছেন...

Rock 'n roll, Crack. We can groove to Josh White's country stylings some time.

Carol_Herman বলেছেন...

Okay, Rachel. I looked it up at Google. Michael Lang was involved in putting together Woodstock.

Don't know the man from Adam.

Don't even know who, from the stage, kept saying "don't take the brown acid."

I do know the fence where the box office was, got ripped down. And, people came up who had not bought any tickets. And, then didn't have to.

The people who produced that concert obviously didn't make a dime.

And, the rains came. And, the rains stopped.

Meanwhile, we were parked at the back end of Max Yasgur's farm. He dropped manure all over the entire farm, thinking the cars would mow it under. But most of the cars were locked out because of the mud and the rain.

I can still remember sticking my bare feet into the muck. And, being disgusted.

And, I can remember NOT being able to go to the bathroom for days! The guy I was with had been in Nam. So, he had no trouble just walking into the woods with a roll of toilet paper, and a small, army issued, shovel.

I also remember he had his military helmet. This allowed him to fill it with water, and to shave. And, for some reason I remember he was able to boil water, so he cooked spaghetti. Feeding ourselves wasn't a problem.

We slept in the car. Because of the rain.

And, I can still remember the smell of the manure. And, how it felt underfoot.

Why was I supposed to know the producer? (Thank Google that I found out.) Google can even answer more questions than my mom.

These conservatives have $100,000 to, basically, throw away.

I mean, based on what I've seen and heard so far, they're going to hand somebody that kind of money for nothing less than a piece of garbage - when there are real conservative artists out there. And our brilliant brain trust, Glenn Reynolds, is part of it.

And then they have the nerve to complain about Washington.

It's their money. They earned it. They can do with it as they wish. There's nothing hypocritical about using their money as they see fit and still "having the nerve" to criticize Washington Waste.

The quasivictim cries out against non injustices not done to him.

Someone now has $100K to put back into the economy if they choose. Or they could save it ... but then again saving is out of vogue, or is it?

The Crack Emcee বলেছেন...

E.M. Davis,

Someone now has $100K to put back into the economy if they choose. Or they could save it ... but then again saving is out of vogue, or is it?

I put this quote from a pollster in my earlier post, but Ann hasn't released it from the spam filter. I still think it's relevant:

GOVERNMENT operates by the wrong values and rules, for the wrong people and purposes, the Americans I’ve surveyed believe. Government rushes to help the irresponsible and does little for the responsible.

When it comes to waste, there is no difference between Washington and what's happening here. Ooooh, they get to pick who they like - so has Nancy Pelosi.

Effectiveness be damned.
