Carnivale was one of the best (and strangest) shows ever put on television...though, I'd never recommend anyone watch it, because it was cancelled far too soon and the end was thus very disappointing. In that, I can certainly see it as the sort of thing hipsters would see as extremely cool.
What a whiney article. After three paragraphs I just wanted to slap him. Netflix is easy, as is hulu. If you hate Cox's dvr, buy a tivo or something. If you hate your PS3 buy a Wii or a roku box or something. Sheesh.
next time I'm in NYC maybe I'll be the cool guy at the Spring St. subway station watching old episodes of Carnivale on his Nexus One
Idiot. Do you really have time to watch a whole episode of a show in a subway station (and is your reception going to be good enough to get it underground)? I have used my sprint tv option to watch episode of the office/community/parks and rec in the airport and to keep nephews entertained with phineas and ferb.
I watch most of my video (movies and TV) on line now. It has been frustrating for the last couple years as the problems seemed easy to solve but constantly irritated you. Stuff like watching the same commercial 20 times in an evening just to get through a couple shows.
Hulu is improving and getting pretty good now.
The first source that gives you plenty of content, good control and makes it easy is gonna get everyone. I'm waiting entrepreneurs. Get it up!
Hulu is great. What bugs me is when networks decide to use their own player and it sucks (CBS I'm looking at you!!!)
I have switched entirely to tv on the internet and netflix instant streaming (My netflix is 8 dollars a month, I don't know why that guy is paying 23!).
Carnivale was a disappointment because we never got the big showdown at the end. I guess the show was just too cerebral to be successful. TV and intelligence just don't mix.
Not sure what show the people who claim Carnivale was too complex/boring were watching...even if you didn't care who Management was, there was something for everyone, plenty of gratuitous violence and skin.

My girlfriend and I started it watching it together when we first started dating (she wasn’t much of a TV watcher and had never heard of the show) but we both enjoyed it immensely even though it was canceled way too early. It was a little frustrating though the way she picked up on things more quickly than I did ;)
Rome and Deadwood are two more great HBO shows that suffered from early cancelation in large part because they were relatively expensive to make. I hope that Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire don’t suffer the same fate.

My wife (girlfriend, then) and I had just moved in together when the show premiered, and it's one of the first shows we watched together. It's a strong shared memory...after every episode we'd turn to each other and mouth "Weird..." just under our breaths.

Yeah, that's right up there with What NewAgers See When They Look At Oprah.
"Cool" lost it's meaning as soon as Apple became big.

Carnivale bored the shit out of me.
KLDAVIS, I tried to like it. I really did.
After certain events in our recent shared history, I'm not sure I'm going to be all that hot to trust cloud storage.
But, yes, this is the power of the Establishment Media slipping away.
Carnivale bored the shit out of me.
I liked the Matt Roush quote (thanks for the reminder Wikipedia!) "Carnivale is the perfect show for those who thought Twin Peaks was too accessible".
Loved Carnivalé.
Inaccessible? It was pretty much a straight up battle between good and evil.
Except they never got to the actual effin' battle 'cause they were canceled.
Watching it on a Nexus seems socially retarded, though.
A real genuine horror is the NYC subway. I descended hand in hand with Dante far too many times. Farewell ninth circle of hell. Forever.
Should have taken Vergil with you.
Never before in the history of television has a cast projected their body odor out through my tv like Carnivale.
Deadwood a close number 2.
Both shows favorites of mine but I needed to open the windows when they were over.

Ooh I'm so embarrassed and edutcher is right, Virgil not Dante.

Hulu is pretty cool in that you can get the Criteron Collection w/o having to watch ads. Also the anime selection is pretty amazing.

And freaks! Who doesn't love to watch freaks?

I don't think "Rome" was actually canceled. It was a joint effort of the BBC and HBO, and the BBC has short seasons and short series.
"Deadwood" definitely fell into the "too expensive" category, from what I heard.
I didn't even find "Carnivale" to be that weird, actually.
There was some mystery, sure, but for carnies, these guys were pretty tame.
