Haha. It's all relative. Although my travel nightmare is always being stuck inside the plane. For some reason being in a plane that is not moving is sheer torture.

dhagood म्हणाले...

it's all lies. people here in denver are nasty, evil, and bad assholes. so stay in wisconsin away from all the nasty, evil, and bad assholes.

we have enough problems of our own without importing wisconsin craziness, thanks.

It was a hail storm. As a former Denver resident, I can vouch for their ferocity.

As for the airport, out in the middle of nowhere, no opportunity to "get out" have a beer or a good meal.

Is Wisconsin contagious?

Many hope so.

dhagood म्हणाले...

hmmm, proofreading would be my friend if i ever did it.

anyway, i have no problems with scott walker. it's his opponents and their narcissistic, clueless actions that i wish would stay far, far, away.

Reminds me of an old Denver joke. The Airport was built or at least initiated during the term of Federico Pena. His slogan was

Imagine a Great City

He was big on building things to make it a great city

One of those buildings was the Denver Convention Center (which for some time was rarely used.)

After completion its unofficial name was the:

Hall 'o Pena

If Wisconsin is contagious, who's the Typoid Mary?

@CL: SEIU and the Wisconsin Teachers Union.

Your're welcome!

Governor Walker is such a mench!

Getting stuck in Denver is something of a ritual. Happened to my sister twice (once on Christmas) on the way from SLC to Philadelphia.

PS I guess all the public sector people in CO are non-union.

Denver International Airport (DIA) was very late and over budget. The project included allegations of corruption, crony capitalism, and bad management. For quite some time, many of us claimed that "DIA" stood for "Democrats in Action."

Speaking of Walker . . . practically every school district in the state is better off financially after the budget repair bill. Except one.

DIA was indeed late and over budget.

DIA is also afflicted with some of the most mundane, pretentious examples of public "art" i've ever had the misfortune to witness.

both federico pena and his successor as mayor of denver, wellington webb, both caught major criticism about how friends and relations miraculously were awarded contracts to provide the "art".

funny how that works out. i'd love to be able to say that republicans don't do that sort of thing, but every time i try i bust out laughing.

Compared to the lunatic bin that is Madison, I doubt anybody can seem unpleasant.

"Sure, our leader murdered my kids --- but damn, that guy is from Madison? I feel for him"

What do we learn from this?

Walker is a pretty normal, unassuming guy. None of the "Do you know who I am?" nonsense to get him extra-special treatment. His family was moved to a conference room - on the floor - at the suggestion of security.

Walker doesn't jet around on state aircraft as some of his predecessors did. he flies commercial.

Walker took his family with him, not a 'secretary' as his predecessor sometimes did.

Many of the (probably liberal, maybe union employees) Madison folks who commented at newspaper's comment section are incapable of correct spelling, proper sentence structure, linear thought, etc.

Hate filled people are simply irrational.

Dustin म्हणाले...

Isn't the Denver Airport part of many conspiracy theories? Like the really kooky ones?

I won't be surprised if the kookier lefties start asserting Walker spent the night there by plan.

Hagar म्हणाले...

I do not know about the artwork, but the amount of concrete that was wasted at that project was appalling.

Chuck66 म्हणाले...

How come he didn't ask the Jew businessmen Kochs if he can stay in their secret lear underneath the Denver airport?

Beldar म्हणाले...

Twitter is a fundamentally unserious medium. I admire him, but it does Gov. Walker no good for anyone to read his pidgin travelogue.

A. Shmendrik म्हणाले...

Let's see, back in June of 19 and 84, I was visiting Denver when a storm came out of the foothills and applied high winds and softball sized hail to the city. The news story I recall from that evening (accurately) was of a home which was moved off its foundation by a combination of the force of the wind and the battering hail. Lots of cars with missing windshields and side glass, looking as if ball-peen hammers had been applied from the outside and the inside of the sheet metal, were seen around town that afternoon. When the weather settled I went to see "Ghostbusters" at its Denver premiere.

Come on, now! That giant blue rearing horse sculpture with the glowing red eyes literally killed its creator, Luis Jiménez. Doesn't that count for anything?

SteveR म्हणाले...

I had to sleep at O'Hare one time with a pillow and blanket (provided by American Airlines which should have never taken off from DFW to strand me after missing my connecting flight). People there were not so nice

Why would he get special security attention? Being outside his home state, Walker was just an ordinary citizen with no particular authority.

Not a fan of the Denver airport. It's in the middle of nowhere. It's better than Dulles, though.

dhagood म्हणाले...

@palladian: i can deal with the feral blue horse and its glowy eyes. it's the stupid blue "paper" airplanes that bug me. how is that art ffs?

or the little silver spinners in the subway tunnel. little kids like it, but most of them don't work. if you're going for performing art, doesn't it have to perform?

then there's the lame murals.

the airport is out in the sticks, but that was pretty much ordained by the federal judge that said closed stapleton. the airport is pretty functional, all in all.

the art, not so much.

Scott M म्हणाले...

I skimmed through the comments, but didn't see it mentioned. Anyone aware just how creepy the Denver Intl airport is? From weird, oddly inappropriate murals to mysterious plaques to the general layout...

^^^ This, 110%

I wish there were more politicians like this.

(Of course, it's possible that's why he tweeted this -- to make himself look good...)

Also, in passing, how is it that there are so many really good Republican governors, and yet our primary pickings seem to be so slim?

Governors are smarter people than presidents or presidential wanna-bes?

Mike Tanis म्हणाले...

I'm impressed he was flying commercial. No, really I am.
