When I worked for a landscaping company as a teen, 80% of the staff was Mexican (illegals, of course) and the only phrase in English I ever heard them utter was, "Don't spray the foliage!"
I agree that "tax breaks" for millionaires and billionaires, etc, and so forth, are bad, but Obama wants to pile even more "targeted" taxes, or "tax punishments," onto the enormous pile of targeted taxes and "breaks" we have now.
I read somewhere that the IRS bookshelf of guidance circulars for IRS employees is about 6 ft. wide, and no one, but no one, knows what all is in there. Another article said that the IRS Q&A employees give wrong answers 1/3 of the time to the public inquiring about tax rules, though how they determined that if no one knows what the "correct" answer would be, I do not know.
Anyway, I think that the best way to get the economy going and gain more revenue, would be for Congress to rewrite the tax code so that IRS' shelf would be reduced from 6 ft. to 6 inches.
I thought this was a nice piece on the Republican candidacy selection process from an evangelical perspective.
The first quality, competence, may seem too obvious to mention, but in their desire for a values-oriented, conservative Christian as President, evangelicals may sometimes forget about this issue.
(and its interesting that from this author's perspective both Mormon candidates lose a bit on the right political and moral ideals valuation, given the Mormon church's traditional stances on traditional conservative Christian values issues. So maybe its not so much that they're Mormon but that they're wishy-washy on abortion, etc.)
Received my hooded sweatshirt from The Althouse Woman's Collection of Fine Stuff. Looks nice. Didn't try it on though, it's 94º outside with big time humidity. I'll need it this winter, that's for sure.
Apropos of nothing in particular, my daughter came home from study abroad in Dublin with an Australian boyfriend. Nice guy and I have no problem with that as he's back in Oz.
What struck me is glancing at the shoe box full of letters that my late wife and I wrote when we were away from each other and thinking, in the Skype age, they'll never have that. There is no way to look back at the silly, foolish and romantic thoughts that were once put from pen to paper. Pity, really.
If the father and brother of Casey Anthony have been maligned and slandered in the public by her defense team as being child molesters without facts to back up such a claim, do they have a case against the defense team lawyers or is there immunity because it's a capitol case?
There's a chance of rain tonight, so I just walked out in back to retrieve my chainsaw, bucket of tools, safety hard hat and safety chaps. Two separate trips. Hot, hot, hot.
Went to Balsam Lake earlier to buy ($150) a land use permit for the new building I'll put up sometime before winter, then on to Somerset to pay ($50) yet another government representative of taxing the fuck out of everything, but he doesn't work past noon on Fridays.
Oh, and that new Jeep that I bought in January? The air conditioning quit working yesterday. So, on to New Richmond and have soneone from Bernards look at it. Loose connection, so I'm good to go.
Some days... At least I have a nice hooded sweatshirt that I can't wear for about 5 months. So, there's that.
Last night's storms were moving south over Lake Michigan. No rain, but we did benefit from the winds. It was beautiful last night. Accuweather says we may get a T-storm or two tomorrow, but the rest of the weekend and next week look really nice.
I listen to 100.3 FM, and they've been warning about winds and 3" hail. I figure I'll close pole shed doors in a while, it really sucks when they blow off the tracks.
There is a good morning show, 6-9, on 100.3 with Tom Emmer as one of the hosts. He ran against Dayton, and his MN political career provides great insight to the backstage drama. Yeah it's MN politics, but until last winter WI politics weren't very entertaining.
wv: reddi reddi or not, hope this post doesn't disappear
It is unseasonably cool in Atlanta. We are staying down in the mid 90s. Just tell that Green Marxist energy thief occupying the White House to quit trying to triple our electrical energy prices based on the science fiction that he will stop clean and harmless co2 trace gas.
Hmm. The water beads up like the cleansing lotus-effect droplets on a collard-green leaf, but unlike with the collard-green leaf, on the rose petals the droplets don't roll off easily. Intermittent micro protuberances among the nano protuberances would be the simplest explanation, I guess, but maybe that doesn't feel right texture-wise
Freeman Hunt, There is good evidence that contrary to what cardiologist preach, your cholesterol can be too low. It has to do w/ your brain. Cholesterol is critical for brain function. Fatty acids are what feed your brain cells. Too low cholesterol is believed to be a contributor to late age dementia. What good is having clean heart valves if your sitting in a chair incoherent and incontinent? It's about balance, something our culture has lost.
I have roses that are almost that color. They aren't Tropicana but Laura Bush, which is a floribunda, I think. It's the only grafted rose I've got and I keep trying to kill it.

A rose between two thorns? Two roses between one thorn?
Why am I thinking this is another Wisconsin Supreme Court post.
What's up w/ those fucking thorns? And, your brother, Jalen is an asshole.
"Why am I thinking this is another Wisconsin Supreme Court post."
Because they look so real, you could almost reach out and grab them.
When I worked for a landscaping company as a teen, 80% of the staff was Mexican (illegals, of course) and the only phrase in English I ever heard them utter was, "Don't spray the foliage!"
The moist foliage reminded me of that.
Makes me think of War of the Roses.

I hope you and Meade have a wonderful July 4th weekend!
What's in a name? that which we call a chokehold by any other name would hurt as much.

Because we don't have to go through "great and terrible lengths" to talk.
We only need Ezequiel 25:17 ;)
Eary Fourth of July garden fireworks at Meadehouse!
Ohh... Ahh!
But there are thorns on every rose
To this I'm reconciled
They're just a little sharper
To a meloncholy child - Pam Tillis
If those are Tropicana roses, they're The Blonde's Favorite.
And ditto on what gerry said.
A grand, glorious, and (dare I say?) safe Fourth of July to all the Althousians and the Meadhousians.
Dewy roses.
Do we blush?
Question posed is
Are we mush?

I'm guessing AllenS doesn't shop in the petites section. BWDIK.
I loved Midnight in Paris. All of the anti-conservatism took the form of clownish comments, incongruous to the rest of the film.
Fun movie, I recommend it.
I'm with The Blonde; Tropicana roses are outrageous.
"I hope you and Meade have a wonderful July 4th weekend!"
I have the whole summer off!
AllenS: here, just south of the cheese curtain, it's a balmy 85$deg;F with 41% humidity. Nice breeze too. Beautiful summer day.
Maybe Gerry just wants the rest of your summer to be crappy.
Too. Hot. To. Talk. Outside.
*gasp*
kimsch--

Because the thorns made you think of pricks?
What a soupy airmass here. The roses will love it, except for the mildew that will be promoted.

Kimsch, I liked your phrase "just south of the cheese curtain". Are you in Lake Co.?
Hey AllenS, I live just south of you in St Croix Co.
Aside from the weather, MN is damn entertaining....although I never would have guessed the MN Zoo being open for business was an "essential service".
I'm looking forward to the coming thunderstorms to cool things off, but I sure hope the professional weather guessers are wrong about 70mph winds.
gail,
I'm one mile north of the St. Croix-Polk county line.
70 mile an hour winds? I listen to WEVR 106.3 FM and they haven't said anything like that.
Jess, yes, yes I am....
wv: vipbying: what Union leaders try to do. Buy VIPs
darn, that post just vanished...let me try again
AllenS, I'm between Baldwin and Hammond.

Yes, Bob Davis and Tom Emmer. I listened to them this morning. For my music and WI sports fix, it's WEVR.
Althouse, care to remark on Time's feature article/cover asking if the Constitution still matters?
Hot, hot, hot here too...after three days of mid-60's and rain.
Have you guys seen this yet?
Top NEA lawyer admits it's about power, not the children
Well, at least he's being honest...
It was unusual to see Althouse beat up on the little girl at the Isthmus.
I assume she did so..."Just because".
No rhyme.
No reason.
Fuckin' Althouse just woke up one morning and decided to kick her ballet slipper right up her sister' s ass.
A low triglyceride/HDL ratio is supposed to be good.
Is there a point, however, where it becomes so low as to be bad?
I can find no information on this.

Old news dude. I posted that here months ago. They don't care about anything but power and money. Fuck them to hell.

Luckily, my cholesterol isn't low. My HDL is 101, and my LDL is 43. I just have extremely low triglycerides, coupled with high HDL.
I'll send my lipid panel to NIH. Maybe they'll turn me into a lab rat.
Freeman,
I just had mine done a month ago: Total: 178 (range: 0-200), Triglycerides: 62 (0-150), HDL: 57 (40-999), LDL:109 (0-130)
My triglycerides were 13. And I don't have any of the things that they say could cause that.
I have roses that are almost that color. They aren't Tropicana but Laura Bush, which is a floribunda, I think. It's the only grafted rose I've got and I keep trying to kill it.
Freeman, My results sheet said the "good" range for Triglycerides was 0-150 mg/dl so at 13 I'd say you were well within the "good" range.
My sheet does not list it as within range.
A bit of searching suggests that a value that low is extraordinarily rare. The NIH is looking for people with values below 50 for studies.
Definitely not Tropicana, I should know, I've killed 3 of them.
Freeman, wow. And mine is kind of close to 50.
Had a lipid panel done yesterday. No more 13, now 33. I'm cool with 33.
