Veronica Penny just wants to spell. She doesn't have to smile for you people.

And she stops by the comments section at Throwing Things to let them know they were stupid and mean to talk about how glum she looked at the Spelling Bee:
I am a happy, fun girl, and my mother gives me joy and laughter every day of my life! She is one of the most hilarious people on the planet! That fact we both tricked all of you is the biggest joke of all. You people are supposed to be intelligent, but all you have demonstrated is ignorance. When I spell, I am in what I call "the zone". Which, if you paid attention to after I was out, you would've noticed us joking around in our chairs. I know I don't smile enough on stage, and she usually sits in the audience making funny faces to make me laugh and I cannot see her when she is on stage.

Basically what you have spent hours doing, is making fun of what I look like, and my mother's appearance. It appears that you are all the ones with personality disorders to pick on a fellow speller like this. You are all cruel people, and my mother's love will get me through how miserable YOU ALL MAKE ME!!!
By the way, Veronica Penny was a special favorite here at Meadhouse.

Concentration and discipline, or 'in the zone' while visualizing the letters in a word is the winner's secret. Ad hominem attacks and misogyny are the marks of losers undoubtedly raised by valueless and ethically challenged parents.

Veronica remins me of a what I imagine a young Palin to be like. Her antagonists are well on their way to becoming typical progressives.

Veronica is right of course. Everyone else is a shit. Only Veronica is pure of heart. Story of my life too, Veronica.

I kinda feel like maybe her mom wrote that.

I know what she means. At that age, when they did stuff like that to us at school, I was concentrating on getting it (whatever it was) right.

Good for her.

You're probably right. There's video of 10 year old Piper throwing a body block at some reporter trying to get into Mom's face and Miss Piper isn't having any of it.

Good for her, also.

Indeed, that's how most protestant-zionist dimwits operate. (and look to the AA comment thread on Sarah Klondike's Revere-error for verification)

I wish Veronica had no idea that any of the comments that so hurt her had ever been made. But I went back and replayed the live feed and none of the comments were horrible. Shonda Rymes jumps to conclusions, is all, but the vast majority of Thing Throwers were sympathetic and supportive of Veronica.

It's a losing game, Miss Penny. You cannot control what people think of you when you appear in public. You are right that no one out in the audience has a clue about your life and what it's really like -- and you don't owe them an explanation. But if you're going to shout that mild comments (mostly expressing concern) like the ones from the Thing Throwers make you miserable, you're much better off not reading them at all.

Academic Olympics, 6th Grade, MA public school, our team (me and 3 classmates) won the Cities. I went to All-Star match to rep. us and lost. I shortly thereafter went to Catholic HS, and never did any competitions. Still have the trophy, ribbon and certificate (well, to be precise, my Mother gave me a box of stuff from the attic at the "old house" with those things in it). Not sure where they are right now.

She's still young. I hope she reaches the point where others can't make her miserable by mere comments. She has the fighting spirit though. But, some fights aren't worth the trouble of a keystroke.

Fred - my favorite scene in Goodfellas is when they kill Joe Pesci. Often, when I'm flipping through the channels and Goodfellas is on, I'll watch till they kill Pesci and then move on.

That you can string those two paragraphs together without a bit of awareness of the self-evident irony just reinforces my opinion that you are truly a hate-filled ignorant twat. Sorry if that's too ad hominem but it happens to be true.

As for Veronica, I wish her much success in the future. I think she overreacted a little, but she's right in the end: how other people react is their problem, not hers.

It could be worse. She could have been "that kid" that did something that went viral, like passing out cold on the stage, recovering, and going on to spell the word correctly.
I do feel bad for the poor girl.

Hey! She puts the period on the outside of the quotes.

Why is misogyny a fallacy?

It would be if someone, say Alt-tard X, would not consider a woman's argument merely because she was female--ie recall the Regumplicans a few years ago ranting and raving about Pelosi and HRC----they're wrong because they're female (the actual merit of their argument/claim/policy, or not is not addressed). Quite common. Check Rush Limblow's archives for examples.

It's is a hate fallacy, then. Not a fallacy itself, but a specification leading to a harsher fallacy sentence.

No, people criticized them because they were idiots.

And still are.

There's a difference.

Which, of course, J is unable to see.

No, that's the approach all sentient beings take toward J.

PS Apparently, J is having delusions of adequacy.

He thinks he's God and anyone who disagrees with him - we're talking Calvinists, Methodists, Protestants generally, Jews, Catholics, and Mormons (the list, of course, is not complete, J is still raving) - is a follower of Satan.

Or Rush.

Or Ann.

edutcher--I am indeed--but also exceeding proud of the ghurka corporal who was awarded the British cross of consipcuous gallantry for his actions in afghanistan--I fine looking young man, standing erect as the queen pinned his medal on him. I dont know if the gurkhas are elible for the Victoria's Cross, but clearly this young man went above and beyond.

Roger J. म्हणाले...

and please disregard my misspellings and other failings--

gallantry is gallantry and should be recognized even if I cant spell stuff correctly.

edutcher म्हणाले...

As a member of the Gurkhas serving in the British armed forces, he is (apparently, there are Gurkhas serving in India's armed forces, also, who are awarded by that system) and, yes, you are right. One wonders why he didn't receive the VC; I couldn't get over the part where, out of ammo, he picked up the tripod of his MG and whacked one guy in the head with it.

His action was magnificent, but then the Gurkhas have enthralled the world with their heroics for over 150 years.

PS No problem.

William म्हणाले...

I remember reading about the Gurkha corporal and thinking, hell, what do you have to do to make sgt in that army.....I don't have a strong interest in spelling bees, but the kids really do project a life-is- earnest, life-is-real intensity that is quite engaging and that could inspire protective feelings in Roman Polanski. If any were so brutish as as to say nasty things about her, I hope they read her missive and weep.....Fame, malice, youth: they are all ephemeral, but the ability to spell ephemeral endures a lifetime.

If I may be so bold--the young lady's performance was gallant--not in military terms, but in terms of personal fortitude which is ultimately what determines gallantry--whether on a field of battle or on a spelling bee. My thanks to both the corporal and to the spelling bee participant.
