I'm still trying to figure out what happened with John Edwards and Rielle Hunter. 900,000 dollars he funneled to her, or something. So many scandals, so little time. Edwards was the actual vice presidential nomineee with Kerry. With so many big fish to fry, it's hard to get so focused on the small fry.
"It's the political class doing all this relentless "work for the American people" that's turned this country into the brokest nation in the history of the planet, killed the American Dream and left the American people headed for a future poised somewhere between the Weimar Republic and Mad Max."

For the sake of argument, let us take it as read that American men are emailing their genitals across the fruited plain all day long, and that in the nature of these things one or two attachments go awry and wind up in the in-box of the elderly spinster who runs the quilting bee and you have to make a rather sheepish apology. Congressmen are among the few in this land who, in such a situation, can breezily say, as Weiner did to CNN's Dana Bash, "You have statements that my office has put out... ." Herein lies the full horror of American politics in the death throes of the republic: A Congressman has nothing better to do of an evening than Tweet his crotch to coeds, but he requires an "office" with "staffers" to "put out" "statements" on the subject."
He had me at "White Sport Coat and a Pink Carnation, Marty Robbins".
Steyn is a great listen or read and appreciated Ann's fresh take on Weiner's twitter habits, with a nice expansion on the need for bloated staffing to put out papers on his twitter missile. Which by the way, the young women do not appear to be in any danger of WMD from this particular weiner.
Saddam Hussein had a lot of lookalikes on the payroll to confuse his enemies, and it wouldn't be a surprise to discover our Congressional princelings were trending in the same direction.
Love Steyn. Wish he would write more often.
Weiner: "I need to get back to working for the people"
Actually, no. We would prefer you not work for us. You keep screwing things up. Please return to building up your stable of young busty coeds.
Congratulations Professor. Mark Steyn is about the most talented word smith in the English speaking world, and he reads your Blog for entertainment. You are amazing.
Didn't aristocrats in Shakespeare's time, where cod pieces. And, shoes with heels to stand tall in. And, buckles in front?
Yeah. It's weiner's flag pole salute for Memorial Day. Which probably means his staff was vacationing on Martha's Vineyard.
I couldn't figure out why Huma wanted Bill to "officiate." But wouldn't she, if Hillary was her thrill? She'd be in a gown, and everything, no?
You took that marriage seriously?
Did Huma seek comfort in Hillary's lap, yet?
Oh, that "tweet's" a classic.
Why didn't the poor man say "I meant to send in privately, to my wife. But the blackberry's buttons are invisible to me, when I'm not wearing my bifocals? Then? All he'd need is an eye doctor.

Its the same "party like its 1773" all over again. If the Left had any shame, they'd do a bit of research before popping off.
Ya know, recently the Senate voted 97-0 to send Obama's alleged "budget" straight to the round file, and just this week a ton of "unexpected" bad economic news sent the Dow Jones skidding by 279 points.
What was lamestream media focused on?
Sarah Palin's bus and a photo of a lump in Anthony Weiner's underpants.
They aren't even debating what caused the lump since Weiner is your typical d***less Dumbocrat lapdog for Nancy Pelosi.
I think allowing Mark Steyn into the country is one of the smartest things we've ever done. (Glad he wanted to join us, too!)
Kirby Olson,
The innuendoes and lies that have appeared on the internet and in the National Enquirer concerning John Edwards are not true, completely unfounded and ridiculous. - Rielle Hunter
MyDD (and Daily Kos) founder and astrologer Jerome Armstrong then added a note: “Just a total bulls*** story.”
"It is no measure of mental health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society". Nah... nothing like that here- in Racine? A billionaire acussed of molesting his stepdaughter - what is money? A former Mayor in prison who wants to make "hot sluts" of14 year olds. A Mayor being sued for multiple reasons - but everyone else has to pay - Crime denied - but the reality remains.
"It is NO measure of mental health to be well adjusted to a PROFOUNDLY SICK SOCIETY".
That's how it starts. A favorable mention in one of his columns. Then perhaps a follow up email asking a few harmless questions. Then he expresses admiration for your photography and asks if you'd like to see some of his recent portrait work. That's how these internet predators operate.
After years of butting heads against the issue, the best advice I received, for our "voluntarily tax system" is to absolutely and correctly file, but fail to include payment. Think about it. What can they do? You claimed it- you filed it - I don't think there is a failure to pay charge. THINK OUTSIDE THE BOX. NO enforcemet clause to the 13th. Amendament.
LOL. How STUPID of me, I got the 13th. amendmant confused with the 16th. What one abolished - another re-established - through the ANAL cavity. SEIG HEIL Government. Geez - we almost got German instead of English as the national language. Today - it's MEXICAN. LOL.
I believe in ghost Tweeters. It's probably a common practice for celebs. Kaus pointed us to Fred Thompson, whose Twitter feed is too good to be real. Some recent highlights:
"LA Times: Obama has intellectual stammer problem - brain thinks so fast, mouth can't keep up. Intellectual spending problem, too."
"HHS launching $500M program to teach kids to "sit still" in Kindergarten. Ok, take the money from M Obama's "Let's Move" initiative."
It's gold all day long. Being a Hollywood guy, Fred must know out-of-work writers he can put to use.
A White Sport Coat was written by Marty Robbins (words and music). His recording spent five weeks at Number One on the Billboard country chart in 1957.
Sonny James may have recorded a cover, but the original was undeniably the bigger hit.
As the story evolves, the logic seems to favor the blogger Ann Althouse's explanation – that Weiner's cavalcade of daily Tweets are too droll to be written by him..."Why does a Congressman have time for that?" Her conclusion is that Weiner has a ghost-Tweeter, and the ghost-Tweeter uploaded the crotch shot, but that, because the "terribly clever and edgy" Tweets are essential to Weiner's sense of his own indispensability, he cannot admit that he's lip-synching.
I think that that is very likely true. But, then, I think that Steyn is also correct that Weiner very very likely does not have time for all this clever twittering.
And, Steyn is really onto something here. Weiner has 19 staffers, and probably needs every one to get from point A to point B on time. Congressional time seems to be booked to the minute, several weeks out.
And, with that press of time on them, it is no wonder that they massively fail when it comes to legislation. The Democrats passed 2000+ pages of ObamaCare without reading it, because they were too busy to spend the time to read such a massive bill that will so affect all of our lives. Instead, they traded votes, log rolled, and let staffers, which really means lobbyists, write the legislation.
I have spent much of this calender year trying to slow down "Patent Reform". It is the same sort of deal - the lobbyists (known to several of our committee members) for the major stake holders wrote the legislation. They seem to want to gut American patent protection in order to reduce the costs of appropriating every else's technology ($30+ million in lobbying is much cheaper). The fix is in - the chairs (Leahy and Smith) in both Houses, and the ranking member (Hatch) in the Senate seem to have been well bought and paid for (Leahy, in particular, by IBM, one of the biggest employers in his state, but also with more Indian than American employees). Subcommittee and Committee hearings were stacked so opponents were never heard, and even most of the committee members hadn't seemed to have read the bills before voting overwhelmingly for them. When we bring up obvious problems with the legislation, we are told it is too late - but, there never was a good time, since the legislation was dropped on both committees by the chairs and ranking members from on-high, and then very quickly put to a winning vote. And, yes, the legislation, aimed at reducing the incentives and protections for inventing, is named the "America Invents Act".
Steyn's point has been repeatedly been beaten into us this last 5 months. Congress is run by people who are so busy doing the "People's Business", that they they almost completely delegate their responsibilities to their staffers, and, thus, with the revolving doors, the lobbyists.
My take from Steyn is the same as AprilApple's - why we're going down the crapper.
It's quite plausible that Weiner doesn't write his own tweets. Do Congresspersons personally respond to emails? Sometimes, but probably not.
As for the droll stuff, I hear that shit on the radio every day. Weiner's not clever, just a copy cat, at best. Some comedian does a bit where his dad took him to a carnival that had the world's largest midgets.
Weiner's just another psycho who weaseled his way into Congress.
Do Congresspersons personally respond to emails? Sometimes, but probably not.
Most don't. But there are exceptions. One of the guys whom I work with on trying to derail Patent Reform sat next to Rep. Sensenbrenner on the plane last fall from D.C., and he spent the fight signing letters. And, then when we met with him in D.C. in March, he spent the entire time we were talking signing letters. But, my understanding is that he is fairly unique in this area.

"It's quite plausible that Weiner doesn't write his own tweets."
It's not at all plausible, however, that Weiner didn't send this Tweet.
In fact, journalists have asked him repeatedly if someone else could have sent it and he has repeatedly claimed that a hacker broke into his system and sent the obscenely lewd photograph to that poor student.
He has never claimed that a staffer responsible for his tweets sent the lewd image.
There's a nefarious hacker out there on the loose ruining the careers of Democrat members of Congress (or so he claims)... but Anthony Weiner won't call the FBI for some reason?
Why?
He consistently refuses to answer that question and that's what makes many convinced of his guilt. He's not acting like a Congressman who is the victim of a crime.
The problem for Weiner is that the IP address logs at Twitter would demonstrate precisely WHERE the tweets came from. The FBI could get those logs in about 4 minutes if they were to conduct an investigation. This is why Weiner won't put out that excuse.
Under the "rogue staffer" excuse, the logs would show that the tweets emanated from the staffer's house (or other location).
So, Weiner won't put out this story. Because iit's too easily shown to be yet another lie.

I just looked up the new scandal and am delighted how his name mirrors his crime. I'm sure many have already noted this, but here goes:
REPRESENTATIVE WEINER.
Says it all.

Steyn is funny and correct as usual.
We've passed the 'did he do it?' phase and will bravely plunge into the 'no big deal' phase.
Huzzah!
Talking about insanity.
This is actually serious.
You just can't buy as much coke with $900K as you used to.

Our fav, the pathetic Crooks and Liars, also fell for it.
Fen's post, @9:45, is just wonderful!
Sarah got the MSM to snap at a her. And, she's right. And, all those minds wasted on "studying policy" got it all wrong. Krauthammer, and all!
Delightful!
Paul Revere's Ride! They used to teach it to school kids, too.

yep...what trad.guy said. Steyn is da bomb.
Whether Ann's theory is correct, you can bet that the fall guy is going down as a ghost Tweeter.
PS What tg said. You continue to ascend the firmament, Madame.
PPS Steyn is good, but his grip on American culture isn't always 100%. I thought it was Sonny James that sang, "White Sport Coat".
Congrats.
