I got the absolute worst sunburn of my life in Nashville, IN. That will happen when you're 15, stupid, red-headed, and spend most of the midday out on the lake in a canoe.
So...I had to lurch through Nashville's picturesque touristy downtown with second-degree burns from shoulders to waist. My family seemed to enjoy it, but I was in agony. This incident encapsulates my very pro-shade/anti-sun agenda.
Interesting info about guinea hens from Wikipedia:
This is a family of insect and seed-eating, ground-nesting birds that resemble partridges, but with featherless heads, though both members of the genus Guttera have a distinctive black crest, and the Vulturine Guineafowl has a downy brown patch on the nape...
The species for which the information is known are normally monogamous, mating for life. However, occasional bigamy has been recorded for the Helmeted Guineafowl...
The pic was done with an iPhone. I tweaked the hell out of it to try to bring out some detail.
The car is a Honda CRV. The FJ Cruiser, which I thought looked really cool is actually bulky and with bad visibility. Plus a Toyota would not be Zimbrick. I love Zimbrick. Madisonians know what I'm talking about.
I talked to someone recently about the stink bug problem we have in Pennsylvania, and she told me her chickens love to eat them. She also said that the stink bug diet does not seem to affect the taste of chicken flesh or eggs.
Wouldn't that small VW be a better option, when compared to the FJ or CRV?
I don't know much about it. But, the bigger VW (Touareg) is great! W/ the diesel you can tow nearly eight thousand pounds. And, it gets around thirty miles on a gallon. And, even though it's very nice when loaded up w/ options, it's less costly and less flashy than an Audi or Porsche. It's perfect (unless you can afford, and want, the turbo Porsche--that thing is awesome for a street car, it can even take a pretty good thrashing on a track).
The neighbors' guineas used to come pecking through the yard, scaring the daylights out of our cats. They're the best watch dogs around; you wouldn't believe the racket those things make when disturbed.
We test drove the VW options and preferred the Honda.
Some of these SUVs are uncomfortably large, and the interiors are... well, they seemed designed for other people. I couldn't identify with the ambience.
We bought the CRV with a tent designed to attach to the car (or not).

As others stated above, Guinea Hens are excellent watchdogs. When I was a kid my Cousin Tom had a farm with a yard stocked with chickens, peacocks and guineas. They would collectively raise a tremendous racket if anything strange appeared. Like say, one of my bird dogs - guineas smell like game to 'em.
Also, it seemed the guineas only had any kind of intelligence as a herd. Individually, dumb as hammers. Dumber than the chickens, for sure.
It has wad. Can't remember whether that was optional. The main options I remember getting were the tent and the bike rack, but I think there was also some kind of large wheels/ruggedness package.

Things are still ducky at Meadehouse.
Is that your car in the background? You were writing about getting a Toyota FJ a few months ago, but that vehicle in no way resembles an FJ.
Whoops. Not Ducky. Meade has chickened out.
Don't look like no chickens to me!
Um, those are guineas...

Meade's hanging with chickens, scythes and RHHardin?
Don't you fear the reaper?
Great uncle was born in Nashville IN. IIRC, nearby Brown County State Park is quite beautiful. A favorite location for fall leaf color watchers.
Those are guinea hens.
Gretchen got it first, but Shouting Thomas recognized something was wrong.
Gunieas are good for keeping deer tick populations down. And screaming if someone comes into your yard.
Guinea hens crying out for lost chickens. Guinea hens are evidently empaths.
Tag line: "The guinea hens will not shut up!"
Sadly, I must go to work.

The FJ Cruiser has notoriously bad visability. And it runs on premium gas only. Forget that.
Guineas love to eat stink bugs, I've been told.

I thought that problem ended when Arlen Specter lost.
Where's Meade? He's out with the chickens! And the tent and the bikes.
Sounds like an Eggagog guest post.
Wow...that pic brings back memories.
I lived in Columbus, IN and drove through Nashville weekly on IN-46 to get to Bloomington. The scenery is simply stunning out there.
The locals would tell me the area is "Klan country" but no one ever bothered me. I don't remember ever seen another black person out there though.

Meadhouse getting back to Nature.
Reliving those wild and crazy days of courtship on the road.
I just hope no one got anything important sunburned.
PS So Ann really was thinking about picnicking and a snuggle afterwards when she photographed that old tree.
Gretchen wins Fowls for $500.

He's on a mountain biking weekend with his mountain biking friends. I'm grading exams and waiting for him to get home.

Just a thought, submitted for your consideration.

Was he riding with these guys?
I thought it might be a CR-V. Did you get it with AWD?
It has wad. Can't remember whether that was optional. The main options I remember getting were the tent and the bike rack, but I think there was also some kind of large wheels/ruggedness package.
Awd. Sorry that got autocorrected to "wad" -- which seems rude.
Lovely area in Indiana. Lots of interesting things around there.
