Eric Holder should just cut to the chase. Holder has already deemed the Defense of Marriage Act to be unconstitutional (and therefore he refuses to enforce it); now he should declare immigration laws to be as well. This is a twofer-- you get both the gay vote and the Hispanic vote. President Obama's war on cynicism continues apace.
I think gay people should be able to keep their most loved ones by their side, as every other citizen of our country can. But I'm still disappointed in the President. I think we have an ever increasing problem about respecting minority rights, with which the concepts of federalism and the rule of law are a part.
Trying to circumvent the problem with legal chicanery does not solve anything. At best it provides momentary relief while causing great long term harm.
The President should be trying to get DOMA repealed if he doesn;t like it. The issue gays have with loved ones being deported could be part of the reason why. What the President is trying to do is a lie. He's lying about what the laws says and trying to rule with lies. Perhaps a government can live on a few big lies, but not lots of little ones.
Is it beyond the ability of the president to fire an AG who refuses to defend the law?
Unless the AG is taking his cue from the President. Why do we have laws if they are not going to be followed? Just remember, Holder is a professional: don't try that crap at home.
Once again, we're witnessing blatant stupidity, hypocrisy and lies, but Ann (the supposed constitutional lawyer) and Meade (the supposed conservative) don't care because Obama killed Osama utilizing everything he fought against to get elected.
But no, no, that twisted, relativist, cultish thinking hasn't had any effect on the reasoning of this nation - this is all perfectly normal common sense reasoning and behavior we're witnessing.
The Crack Emcee: but Ann (the supposed constitutional lawyer) and Meade (the supposed conservative) don't care because Obama killed Osama utilizing everything he fought against to get elected.
I think you're misrepresenting them. Maybe they'll pipe up and say "Oh, everything was worth it!" but I doubt it.
That would still be the correct answer on a middle school civics test.
They still teach civics in middle school ?
Maybe Obama and Holder's next step will be to bring all the Pashtuns over from Afghanistan.
Sodomy and Sufism in Afgaynistan By Spengler
Social scientists attached to the Second Marine Battalion in Afghanistan last year circulated a startling report on Pashtun sociology, in the form of a human terrain report on male sexuality among America's Afghan allies. The document, made available by military sources, is not classified, just disturbing. Don't ask, don't tell doesn't begin to qualify the problem. These are things you didn't want to know, and regret having heard. The marines got their money's worth from their Human Terrain adjuncts, but the report might have considered whether male pedophilia in Afghanistan has a religious dimension as well as a cultural one. I will explain why below.
Most Pashtun men, Human Terrain Team AF-6 reports, engage in sex with men - boys - in fact, the vast majority of their sexual contacts are with males. "A culturally-contrived homosexuality [significantly not termed as such by its practitioners] appears to affect a far greater population base then some researchers would argue is attributable to natural inclination. Some of its root causes lie in the severe segregation of women, the prohibitive cost of marriage within Pashtun tribal codes, and the depressed economic situation into which young Pashtun men are placed."
Read the rest, as they say, and see if they don't sound like great immigrants.
It's like ripping a baby from it's mother's arms, when you tell people they can't be together. We should be much more civilized than that!
Plus, I think we have too many people working in immigration. And, this whole case is just a waste of time.
Meanwhile bimbos can put in breast implants. Wave a tuchis under the nose of a sick old man with money. And, walk off married. And, the kids this guy has, gets screwed.
You want fair? There is no such thing.
We've had brilliant homosexuals who have been the most creative artists.
I think offering people a closet to hide in is UNcivilized!
I remember being in University in the 70's. Girls were being offered $10,000 for a sham marriage. The sham marriage would give a green card to the "husband". Typically, the husband was some Iranian with a Firebird Trans-Am, and a mustache searching for puberty.
We can't let this become a loophole for leaches. There needs to be some legal record of partnership (marriage?....I'm not sure what that is anymore, but I've maintained the status for 30 years) between the partners. We can't let a bunch of free-loaders in the door.
Not that homo's are leaches, but the leaches will find the loophole, and exploit anybody they can find.

Titus must be really happy. Now his Indian husband won't be deported.
Good deal.
This is very big for me Troop.
The husband and I speak about it all time.
He was in the states on a visa that only runs for 7 years.
He had to leave the U.S. for one year and can return after the year is up.
So instead of real sex we have Phone Sex.
He wanted to do Skype Sex but I found that inappropriate.
A girls got her limits.

Speaking of which when is power glutes getting shipped back to Socialist Europe where he belongs?
They must be getting scared. Their internal polling must be showing they'll need every last vote of that 1.3% of the population.
(frankly, I don't think it's gonna save 'em)
If you said Brazilian, I would think you were talking about Glenn Greenwald.
But I hope that Titus' Indian Husband never gets deported. I wish those two the best.
Don't mention Brazilians or ironrailsironweights will show up and start bitching.
I must be getting old. I remember when it was the executive's job to enforce the laws instead of undermining them.

That would still be the correct answer on a middle school civics test.
It's the President's job to preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. But only to the best of his (or her) ability.
That leaves a lot of wiggle room.
Is it beyond the ability of the president to fire an AG who refuses to defend the law?

Yeah, it appears everyone is an expert at finding all the stuff written there in invisible ink.
What a practical system this has become.
Perhaps Lady Althouse, the constitutional lawyer, will file a blog brief on this??

American Gothic writ large.
Integrity, all the way.

Great. Using the gay issue to defend illegal aliens.

Well then, we need to drop the other shoe.

Remind me again which party fights the culture wars when the campaign heats up.
So, judges make rulings based on potential law now?
My, that will work well in the whole "maintaining legitimacy" thing...
