Speaking of waste.. that looks like a good place to walk a dog.

le Douanier ayon kay ...

Nice pic.

And, unlike the sycophants who regularly respond to Althouse pics as if they were sartorialist commenters, I'm not usually impressed.

traditionalguy ayon kay ...

Wow! Meade has really done a number on your backyard.

edutcher ayon kay ...

A beautiful scene, Madame. In my pedestrian days, a sight such as that would warm my heart.

Warm weather was at hand.

Everyone should see Thor. It's fun and Natalie Portman doesn't suck.

(Actually, if you don't like superhero movies, please don't go see it. You will be unhappy and say unkind things.)

Speaking of dogs, mine is having sneezing fits and a runny nose from the pollen. Do they make doggy Claritin?

Are you sure it isn't from the long haired cat in your pic?

There's a story going around the rightosphere today that a Senate bill, S.679, creates serious consitution problems with its treatment of appointments. It doesn't. I have a detailed analysis of why here.

Simon ayon kay ...

Synova, we're going to see it this weekend. :)

Irene ayon kay ...

Ralph L, one of my dogs takes Benedryl for the itchies. Check with your vet about dosage.

David ayon kay ...

My dog has a sore back, poor doggie. She broke a leg as a puppy (actually, I ran over her with a golf cart), and walks with the leg slightly splayed. Vet says this might be causing inflammation.

She shed so much last night from the stress it looked like someone had sheared a buffalo in our bedroom.

She's much better tonight, sleeping peacefully. So I will too.

She is a really sweet nice dog--the kind that restores your faith in dogmanity.

Sal ayon kay ...

I had a backyard like that once. It was fabulous! Then you get used to the fabulousness of it, and it slowly becomes a giant pain in the ass.

Ralph L ayon kay ...

Thanks, Irene, I will.
Are you sure it isn't from the long haired cat in your pic?
That's not my cat.
It isn't my dog, either, I've just had her since December because my step-mother has enjoyed such ill health, my dad's too tired to look after the dog.

I realized after they'd died that my two Balinese cats had given me chronic indigestion for 10 years. We have 4 cats at my office that don't, but I don't want to risk bringing one home, and now the dog would chase it all day.

My dog is really, really hairy. Ironrails would orgasm if he saw her.

Mid-Spring! We've had a very wet spring here in East Tennessee, which means the 3 or 4 wet weather springs in the back yard are active and the pond is full. Mosquitoes galore.

Would I be beyond moral redemption if I put a few larvae eating goldfish in a pond that will be completely dry in August?

Simon ayon kay ...

Lem, they aren't speeding it up, they're dragging it out. It was obvious that the Ninth Circuit wasn't going to vacate the injunction; it is obvious that the Supreme Court isn't going to vacate it. If they really want to speed things up (I pointed out at the time), they should take the injunction on the chin and litigate the merits of the suit. Arizona is posturing and dragging it out, presumably for political gain.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

My dog is really rare and expensive...so there.

We've taken to taking in "rescue-pets" into our home. Last November, we lucked into the rare experience of rescuing a dog of a very rare breed which, had we bought him from a breeder as the original owner did, would have been quite expensive. Double-luck that he was still just a puppy.

Today, he's more than just pretty much a happy-go-lucky dude, despite the fact that we need to improve on our dog-grooming skills (and commitment to doing that sort of thing, every single day of our lives, not something in which we previously had any interest at all, and--truth be told--still don't, inherently, but we're working on it).

So there, Titus. :|>

Sal ayon kay ...

We've taken to taking in "rescue-pets" into our home.

I would imagine every breed has a rescue group of some sort now, so even if you have a specific breed preference, it's the place to go to.

I love Brittanies. Or Brittanys. Whatever.

Lem: I hope that Simon won't mind my jumping in here to say that yes, indeed it is.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

MarkG:

Our rescues have not been by breed; that is, we don't search for certain ones and we don't belong to specific groups. Please believe me when I say I don't have a problem with all of that or those: I don't; we don't. I write this comment only in the interest of clarity, with regard to our own thing.

Lem Vibe Bandit ayon kay ...

Its allways good to see people come back.. (if it is Simon with the Scalia avatar)

reader_iam ayon kay ...

Never even heard of the Havanese breed until a scant day before we brought our little dude home.

Lem: Skepticism is a good thing. It should not surprise you that I think that, and you are, of course, right to wait for direct confirmation.

That said, it really is that Simon.

I've been transferring my LP Vinyl collection to MP3 using Sony Sound Forge Audio Studio.

I'm delighted so far.. It has gone beyond my most optimistic expectations.

I believe it helped that I hardly used the records, other than to make tapes.

reader_iam ayon kay ...

Well, unless the Simon-pretender is also posting on Twitter as Simon and also as Simon on Facebook, all linking back to Simon on his own, longstanding group blog. In that case, skepticism might not be so much in order. A simple Googling to confirm whiffs of institutional knowledge and memory might be more efficient, if not effective.

Looks wonderful, ma'am. Please consider this my official request to pitch a tent there. Can I arrange the following with you:

1. A direct link to the EIB Network;

2. A shaving mirror that will always make me look like John Bolton;

3. A bathmat with a picture of either Joy Behar or Whoopi Goldberg;

4. The address to the nearest conservative coffeehouse, and

5. The Bill Maher Target Practice shop.

@ Synova

We saw Thor in 3D on Saturday (it was my first 3D movie). I enjoyed the movie but found the 3D distracting; I'd probably have been happier seeing it in 2D.

We liked the movie, but I had some quibbles with liberties they took with Norse mythology, such as having Odin lose his eye fighting frost giants and Sif the golden-haired being a brunette! (I read the Wikipedia page about how the latter happened in the comic books, but still...)

KCFleming ayon kay ...

Thor looks thwell.

Thorry.

Fen ayon kay ...

Thor in 2D will be good. The 3D makes my eyes tired, and the goggles cram my glasses into my head.

I had some quibbles with liberties they took with Norse mythology

Ha. We took the cheap route and watched the SciFi version on the tele. It was so horrible that we had to MST3K it (ie. snarky comments during this train wreck of a movie) which is always fun in its own way.

Simon ayon kay ...

Reader, thanks; Lem, it is I.

Simon ayon kay ...

I mean, we could get into the existential question of whether someone is the same, but I don't think that's what you were asking. ;)

Movie that I'd like to see: My Three Widows, a comedy in which the ghost of Osama Bin Laden haunts his Abbottabad compound along with his three widows, who remain there along with his grouchy sidekick, Uncle Zawahiri. You know how the Chinese ideogram for trouble is "two women under one roof"? Well, try it with three, as polygamist hijinks ensue. Sort of a cross between The Ghost and Mrs. Muir, Big Love and My Three Sons.

Lem Vibe Bandit ayon kay ...

Good to have you back Simon.

Fred4Pres ayon kay ...

Clyde, I am waiting for someone to make American Gods into a movie. That takes a lot of liberties with Norse mythology, but it does have a Wisconsin connection.

Everyone should see Thor. It's fun and Natalie Portman doesn't suck.

I'm sorry, we don't owe Natalie Portman a living.

Christy ayon kay ...

@Fred4Pres - I love American Gods. Gaiman did an absolutely charming short children's novel a couple of years ago, Odd and the Frost Giants which played again with Norse mythology.

Penny ayon kay ...

Madman, I've watched that doggy every day for the last week. That video is even better for the soul than "Breakfast with Bissage"!

I give him ten W's.

AWWWWWWWWWW.....

"My sister took in a rescue dog which turns out to be, by all appearances, an undocumented pure bred labradoodle."

Pure bred?! That's the funny thing about those dogs. They're all mutts.

Even so, I paid $25 bills (plus nine percent tax) for mine--a so-called Australian labradoodle. My sister and her fiance paid even more because her two were "pre-trained." But, a mutt is a mutt.

Whenever I'm asked what kind of dog she is I say, "mutt."
