False alarm. Somehow my blog was falsely flagged as a spam blog. This might be the same thing that happened to Ann?
Blogger.com wanted my cell phone number in order to restore my blog. Against my better judgement, I gave it to them. They sent me a text message containing a verification code and my blog was immediately restored (archives and all).
Google swears they're not being evil. I'm not entirely convinced.
Insurmountable in human history, as we live to decide (all of us in Chief if we are to accord our ideals epistoligical optimism notwithstanding the last three years) it, are our ideals, generously bequeated by our betters.
Not the idea or concept, but the application of government by, of, and for me. And them. Our countrymen.
Standing on those giants shoulders, I, laugh if you will, have the ultimate confidence musterable when I think of Reagan's, Lincolns, and Washingting's AMERICA.
Two hours of morel hunting today, finding: 1) baby fawn that scampered away 2) a Meadow Frog 3) Lots of bones of dead whitetails which the kids somehow talked me into bringing home in a bag 4) Two small grey morels that were past their prime but were still great fun to find
All in all, a great way to spend a spring evening.
"OK, Prof. Althouse. Nice domain. In the thread asking commenters to guess, you were really just fishing for ideas, weren't you?!"
No. Look back at that thread and you'll see that people saw it was already purchased. My son John thought of it. But Peter thought of it independently... With the "edgy" prompt.
I had thought of that idea of using the .us country code: altho.us. but I didn't make the jump to using a country other than my own. Theres no need to put the clunky .com at the end of everything I think the new era of urls is getting creative with the country codes.
I'm so glad Althouse.com and annalthouse.com weren't available so it pushed us into the country code zone and we found that.
And it's legal. The se country code is unrestricted. My tech guy tells me the foreign countries want their codes used like this. The tv in bloggingheads.tv is Tuvulu!
Lem, 0-0 through 7.5. With 2 outs in the 8th, Crawford walks and Saltalamacchia doubles him in. Papelbon gives up a leadoff double to VMart in the 9th, he's bunted to 3d, then Papelbon strikes out two for the save. Great game.
And it's legal. The se country code is unrestricted. My tech guy tells me the foreign countries want their codes used like this. The tv in bloggingheads.tv is Tuvulu!

But there are semantic concerns, especially when you do this with something other than .tv. The semantic meaning will be that your blog is a Swedish one, in Swedish. That's how search engines will see it, and it may reflect on how they rank it (e.g. higher in Sweden, lower elsewhere). A "do you want to translate this page?" might also appear in some browsers (e.g. Google Chrome).
I've e-mailed you, Althouse, with an additional comment.
I can't tell you all how much your messages mean to me. She's been my best friend since I was 17, and it pains me that I cannot bear the suffering for her, or do much of anything useful but abide.
So the greatest commenters on the greatest blog give one considerable consolation.
My tech guy tells me the foreign countries want their codes used like this Has he asked them all? Bet the Germans say no. Another fine example of Amerikan imperialism.
Is it really althou.se? I don't get it? Guess not althou.se
Fort, would you translate that tortured prose into English?
Pogo that is great news. Like you my wife means everything to me. She is your partner, your friend, you sounding board, the other person in the foxhole when there's incoming. To see her hurting tears at your heart. You can only be strong for her and let her know how much you love her and honor her and need her to get better. Love like yours shames the Arnolds and Spitzers and Edwards of this world and shows us that they are beneath our contempt and should not enter into our thoughts as other than comedy.
I will continue to pray for her and for you and your family and hope that she will walk out of the hospital with you hand and hand as you go on with your journey together.
God bless you dude and may God bless and heal her.
Is May 21st the date the world ends? I keep forgetting?
Yup, May 21st. The crazy Christians even have a sponsored link on Google that leads to this very busy webpage. It's all very Heaven's Gate-ish. I wonder if we'll see suicides?
Melancholia opens in Denmark on May 26th. So the world might end five days after it didn't. The trailer looks great, tho'. I was sold once I heard the unforgettable voice of John Hurt.
As for Lars Von Trier... ugh... somebody should just kidnap him and force him on a plane to America, and then take him on a very friendly tour. That could be a plot for a movie itself.
Speaking of things Danish... This evening I've been watching some of the original Danish TV series The Killing, which apparently has been recently remade (to great acclaim!) by AMC. The original series (available with English subtitles) is spectacular... so spectacular, in fact, that I hesitate to see the AMC version because I'm afraid it'll be a let-down.
I don't trust my fellow Americans anymore after the way MTV mauled the exceptional British teen series Skins earlier this year.
Great to hear, Pogo. I've been thinking of (and praying for) you two lots since your comments the other day. Here's wishing your wife and you a speedy, and yes, boring, recovery.
You can look up the country codes in Wikipedia and see what the restrictions might be. As for Germany, it is available and frequently used in the creative fashion:
"In many of the Romance languages, e.g., Spanish, French, Romanian and Portuguese, "de" expresses the genitive of a noun (like "of" in English). This is exploited in domain registrations under the German TLD for romance language webhosts that offer customized sites, like elforo.de (theforum.of), cleverly encoding the site name into the URL path, such as elforo.de/wikipedia, meaning theforum.of/wikipedia. "de" is also a common romanization of the Japanese word for "by", so there is potential for sites to exploit this ("ryoko.de/bus" being travel by bus), but this has not been widely adopted."
Can you give us a list of the plants in your Deadly Poisonous Plant Garden?
I'd like to include it in info I am gathering for those who chant the mantra "natural = good."

I;ve been checking the other thread all day for word on Pogo's wife. Hope all is well
Ditto.
PS Very nice, Madame. As I've said before, you live in a nice place.
The smell in here is much better than the foul stench in the adult baby thread.
There are some threads into which I shall not venture. Adult Baby chief among them.
Ann,
HELP! My Blogger account just got blocked! My blog has been disabled!
This happened immediately after I (very legitimately and with 100% substantiation) criticized Google in a comment thread.
WHERE can I go to fight this? I cannot even log onto my Google account.
Signed,
The Blogger formerly known as SBVOR.
Former blog: SBVOR.blogspot.com
So, what's the edgy new domain name?
Inquiring minds want to know.
Peter, you must know that you're the one who guessed it!
OK, Prof. Althouse. Nice domain. In the thread asking commenters to guess, you were really just fishing for ideas, weren't you?!
Addendum to my previous comment.

Hooray! That was the best one.
Hooray! That was the best one.
What was it? I don't recall his guess.
Now that I have gone all Bollywood I want to let you all know how my pinches loaves smell.
It is a combination of the following: Buddha, Curry, Some Tiki Masala dish, Darjeeling Tea, Paneer, Patchouli and the Taj Mahal.
Thank you.

I'm expecting the first pic on the new site to feature Swedish pancakes.
Titus,
I now regret (sort of) having Indian food for dinner. Leftovers.
I'll let you know how it comes out.

Academics do that routinely-they ingratiate themselves with the Swedes in the hopes of getting the nod for a gold medal.
Could a blog win a literature prize? Of any sort?
Could a blog win a literature prize? Of any sort?
How about a Peace Prize? They seem freely available.
What do you all think of the Woodstock Phenomenon?
tits
I hit preview. I changed "Washington" to "Washinging" and missed other errors.
I do question why.
What do you all think of the Woodstock Phenomenon?
I think it's pretty cool that a dog would have a pet bird.
Is althou.se legal?
Wow. I had no idea that I picked the winner. I thought that cruelneutrality.com was the best of the lot.

Is althou.se legal?
If she's not, I'm in big troub.le
Wife was nuts about alliums. I never liked them. Thankfully she hasn't planted them since we've moved (almost 15 years ago).
Is it really althou.se?
I don't get it?
I really did vote for Walker and I am kind of bummed about his decision regarding gays and hospital visitation.
WTF? Come on.
I thought because he was younger and I don't know more cool that he would leave that shit be.
What I meant, actually, was the ".se", which would seem to send the address in the wrong direction.
Let's see how it works: http:///www.althou.se.com
Did anyone see the video of Newt and Callista, or Candy as I like to call her, getting "glittered"
Do you think Newt calls her Candy and says things like, "Candy suck my hog you slut".

Lem, How about that game tonight in Boston?
It must be enigmatic or something.
omg, what happened? - i was watching Sofia Coppolas Somewhere 2010.. what did I miss?
And it's legal. The se country code is unrestricted. My tech guy tells me the foreign countries want their codes used like this. The tv in bloggingheads.tv is Tuvulu!

I got a good feeling the Sox finally got their shit together.
They beat Detroit 1-0.
I like that kid Buchholz.. not sure on the spelling.
I didn't think Scotty or Lauren were stretched very much with their songs tonight.
Loved how Scotty and Lauren were given their songs in front of crowds, and Hayley got hers while alone in her car. Shades of Syesha.
A nailbiter.. thats the kind i like.
From a marketing standpoint, ".se" makes no sense. "Althouse" is a brand - and the Madison Avenue adage goes: Never try to improve a good thing.
Clever, edgy, maybe. But you don't bet 7+ years on a creative whim.
Not to even mention Sweden.
Added: I see that you've added that it's legal. Today. But you're gambling on tomorrow.
Its the URL. The blog name remains the same.
A URL must have something after the dot. It doesn't have to be com(or net or org). There's an amazing list of country codes to get creative with.

Many thanks for all the prayers and well wishes.
It was a carotid artery dissection, with excruciating pain. No surgery as yet, just anticoagulation.
We're blessed there was no stroke, but it's still touch and go here in the ICU.
I have some added hope now that things have finally gotten boring.
And you guys are the greatest.
Not a problem, doc. We all have to look out for each other.
Glad things worked out.
Thanks for the news, Pogo. Boring is good.
I know I have a dick sometimes Pogo but my very positive thoughts are sent your way!
Pogo, thank you for the update. We'll keep the paws crossed here for both of you.
Hooray, Pogo! Boring is great.
"It was a carotid artery dissection, with excruciating pain. No surgery as yet, just anticoagulation."
Wow. You're in my thoughts and prayers, Pogo & Mrs Pogo.
Blessings, Pogo.
Thanks for letting us know Pogo. I'm happy for you both.
Pogo, first I've read of it -- I'm on travel. I'm praying for the best outcome for your wife.
As for Allia, I prefer A. sativum to the ornamental variety.

Oh, then perfect! I definitely approve of a mixture of ornamental and alimental allium.
It's this time of year I wish I still lived in my place in New Haven, so I could tend my old Deadly Poisonous Plant garden.
Missing your deadly, poisonous plants? Here's a video you might like.
Skip ahead to the 1:50 mark, if you'd like.
Pogo that is great news. Like you my wife means everything to me. She is your partner, your friend, you sounding board, the other person in the foxhole when there's incoming. Hi Pogo.
I haven't been reading and had to go back and track your story.
I am glad Pogowife is stable. (More like better than one could have expected with that dx.)In another life I was a CV-ICU nurse.
If she is stable - and it seems she is, in the ICU kind of way -- that is good.
If your ICU and cardiac guys and gals are half as good as those I worked with, they can do miracles.
You are in our NC prayers.
Get some sleep.
Pogo
It was a carotid artery dissection, with excruciating pain.
Ugh-hopefully this part is over.
I have some added hope now that things have finally gotten boring.
Ya..boring is good.
And if you tell her something of what Trooper said....
that you need her to get better-
I have a feeling that might do a trick.
Women are weird like that.

Meade, you need to put together a garden blog, domain Mea.de
In the garden shed world they would call that "edging-ness"
Pogo, best wishes to you and Mrs. Pogo. I'm sending my prayers her way for a full and speedy recovery.
Pogo, I'm sorry for your wife's pain but glad it's not worse.
Great to hear, Pogo. I've been thinking of (and praying for) you two lots since your comments the other day. Here's wishing your wife and you a speedy, and yes, boring, recovery.
In other news, it looks like UW Law has lost it's left-flank dean candidate. Will the selection process simply narrow to the two still standing?
Pogo,
A relief that you know what it is and how to treat it. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your wife.
Hi, Pogo. Meadhouse sends love and good wishes.

Harald Camping is a known fruitcake in the evangelical Christian world.
We know who he is, shake our heads, some shred his eschatology, but statistically all of us are making plans for May 22.

Hoping for the best, Pogo.
