"I pronounce that they be man and wife together, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."

The wedding is accomplished.

The bride wore a dress that had been designed by a designer.

Mr. Bean was there.

What a crappy way to live, though. Fishbowl and all. If they can have a happy marriage, that will be an accomplishment to be proud of.

I don't understand American excitement over the 'prince and princess' bit, though. Isn't that why we are over here? To stop having princes and princesses? Disney excepted, I suppose.

I have very little interest. Nevertheless, I will find myself watching alongside my wife, with (more or less feigned) enthusiasm, as she finds herself without anyone else with whom to watch this evening.

But, I hope the couple remains happy, and that the new princess is treated better than her late mother in law.

I didn't see it. Wife says that the network news commentators seemed to be disappointed at the simple elegance of Kate's dress and William's dress uniform. Now they're speculating about where the honeymoon will be. So far every place on the globe with a beach has been mentioned, and a few without any beaches at all have been added to the list.

I hope Kate and William go to Antarctica, just to cross everybody up.

Since, you know, the British loathing Obama's were "snubbed".

Turns out Politico and Memeorandum just went with a news boycott.

The uniform thing was a no brainer. No brainer. How could anybody connected with the military, much less a serving officer do anything else. I assume that the entire male royal family was wearing uniforms. Conservative yet flashy... Demonstrating to the people that the royals understand duty. The only issue was which of the uniforms he could wear, he would pick. Given a choice between the dress uniform of a Guards Colonel and the blue bus drivers RAF 1st LT uniform, he made a good choice.

same with the astonishment in the press that he would invite some enlisted men (other ranks in brit speak) to the wedding from his squadron...

duh... If your business is flying a helo in shitty weather out over the Irish Sea, it would be good it the mechanic wasn't holding a grudge :)

As for the Dress? I thought it was perfect.

Thank God it is over.

I think it is unAmerican the amount of attention we pay to Royals and their goings on. We fought a revolution 230 years ago so we wouldn't have to bow down to these idiots. I use that term in its technical sense due to all the intermarriage.

The only proper purpose for royalty and nobility and titles in general is strong mockery.

I have been reading a lot of Anthony Trollope over the past year (Free audiobooks at Librivox.org and free Kindle books)and I think he gets it pretty much right.

Fuck the Queen, Prince Charles, Princess Diana, Squidgy, their nasty offspring.

The royal wedding has completely overshadowed the news that Charlie Sheen has split up with Bree Olsen. If Charley and Bree cannot make a go of it, what chance do the royal couple have?....When you think of all the layers of sleaze, manipulation, and exploitation that Charles and Diana were embedded in, it was refreshing to read of a couple like Charlie and Bree who really cared for each other. I just hope that they can find some way to be back together, and that Kate and William can, however briefly, approximate their love.

I thought the dress was beautiful, simple, and elegant. Diana's was very, very poufy and the 25 foot train must have weighed a ton. Kate's dress will bustle nicely and is much more practical for the rest of the day.

I just watched the vows part online. Her dress was very modest and simple. The abbey was not as set designed as the prior marriages.

I think it was a signal to turn down the volume on the gossip and theatrics by the couple, so good for them!

Sal ayon kay ...

It was immensely classy!

I'm not a religious person, so I'd forgotten how awful church is. "Fear God" this and "judgement day" that and all the other spooky shit that fool was saying. It's a wedding for cryin' out loud, not a funeral.

Clyde ayon kay ...

Why do Americans have such interest in it? Probably because we can understand what they are saying, since we share a language. If it were a royal wedding in Norway or Belgium or some such, we'd need subtitles. And for those of us with British ancestry, well, they're our cousins. We have more in common with them (and the Canadians, Australians and New Zealanders) than we do with the non-Engish-speaking world.

Joe ayon kay ...

Not a royal watcher, but I clicked on the links and found Kate's wedding dress very nice. It has a sublime elegance.

prairie wind ayon kay ...

edutcher, I've read plenty of those stories to my children.

Unfortunately, it was a couple of ADULT women who were gushing, "a real prince and princess!!"

johnroberthenry, with all those names, you sound a bit royal yourself. :-) Not that you'd want it that way.

Chip Ahoy ayon kay ...

I watched that this morning. Very nice for Britain. MSNBC had very good coverage. The shots from the ceiling of the Abby are spectacular. I especially liked the live trees lining the Abby. Never saw that before. Very nice touch.

My brain automatically translated everything that dolt Richard Chartres said into the voice that Peter Cook used (impressive clergyman) in the Princess Bride. Somber as it was, from my point of view the actual wedding was hilarious.

The little kids were adorable. I just want to squeeze their guts out. When I was that age the adults around me kept messing up my hair and I was all, "Stop doing that!" Now I can see how irresistible it is.

I haven't read all the comments so if anybody hasn't remarked yet it MUST be noted, yes, the wedding dress is nice and all that, but my attention was on what Philippa's dress did for her backside. Humanahumanahumana.

Princess Beatrice, Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha, you kill me over here. Hats. Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha.

I was just at my child's preschool helping to set up for an event tomorrow, and the talk turned to the royal wedding.

Person 1: "Did you watch it?"
Person 2: "I did."
Person 3: "I haven't."
Person 4: "It's on my DVR."
Me: "Yeah, but are you going to watch it?"
Person 4: "Huh?"
Me: "Are you really going to feel like sitting down to watch it?"
Person 4: "Hmmm. Well, I don't know."

There's only so much interest slow walking (and driving) can hold. Especially when the event being watched is not live.

RonF ayon kay ...

I hear the music was fantastic. John Rutter composed the anthem used specifically for this service as a wedding gift.

She's older than Diana was, probably smarter, and has spent more time with her now-husband than Diana did. And they're a lot closer in age to each other than Charles and Diana. Plus, apparently William isn't nearly the twit that Charles is. I think they'll get on fine.

but my attention was on what Philippa's dress did for her backside.

Yeah, I liked her dress a lot more than Kate's.

Also found some of the women's hats amusing. Especially the one on the lady sitting right behind the queen. It reminded of a hairstyle in Whoville. I'm not sure, but I think the wearer is Fergie's daughter. Fergie wasn't invited.

William is really losing his hair.

I would definitely do him though.

Big Mike ayon kay ...

@Drill SGT, my understanding is that William could have chosen any of a number of uniforms, but chose to garb himself as a colonel of the Irish Guards, wearing only the Jubilee medal and the sash and starburst of the Order of the Garter. Oh, and the wings he's earned.

Contrast with his younger brother, who was practically covered in gold braid.

Synova ayon kay ...

When Di got married to Charles they even had the medical check for the hymen. For real.

I understand why some people think it's a shame and shameful that William and... Kate?.. have been carrying on forever, and not pretending otherwise, but as much as I am old fashioned about sex outside of marriage, this has still got to be better than marrying a teenager of the right aristocratic background who you sort of like because you have to pick a virgin.

I like to think that William early put his foot down and told his grandmother to stuff it, he'd marry who he liked.

And no, I didn't watch it and didn't record it. I did watch Charles and Diana's wedding though. I was the right age.

MadisonMan ayon kay ...

No, I didn't think you did. I figured you were just making a sly joke about it. ;-)

Synova,

I didn't watch this one either and I watched Charles and Diana too... I was also the "right age". Diana was just 50 weeks older than me.
