"... if there were not a long and growing list of intimidation, boycotts, death threats, and property damage."
Dave Blaska takes a sideswipe at the Havens Center — that's the funniest part. (Does that mean nothing to you? It's a UW Sociology Department thing.)

Errant link to the original, cited article.
Ditto.
If it involves sociologists, the link is probably not worth reading.
Speaking of Sociology, I got as far as the chapter "Social Empowerment and the Economy" in Envisioning Real Utopias by the erstwhile Erik Olin Wright Van der Sloot.
What a tool.
Random sentence from pg. 211:
" The status of Quebec as a French-speaking province in an English-speaking country also contributed to a strong sense of solidarity that facilitated the elaboration of thick associational solutions to coordination problems. "
Brilliant!
this link should work

The Left's rhetoric hasn't changed in 80 years, so this surprises us, why ?
That's in your University? Yow!
Heh and sociology depts should be be the first to go at our overpriced universities.
Years ago, Punch magazine wrote a parody article, when it turned out that many members of the Italian left-wing terrorist Red Brigades came out of the sociology department at the University of Bologna.
I can't remember the precise wording of the title, but it was along the lines of:
"A new study shows that many sociology grad students go on to become terrorists. What is even worse is that even more go on to become sociologists."
That Sociology Dept. link is very enlightening-- and a bit scary, but I suppose it's unexceptional in today's academic setting. All very ueber-Marxist, or maybe Gnostic-- they really intend to "immanentize the eschaton", i.e. build the secular equivalent of the kingdom of God on earth. And all designed by experts like them.
Well following a link in the linked article, I do appreciate this:
Rep. Jennifer Shilling (D-La Crosse) denounced the threats and vandalism in a written statement Thursday.
"I have said from the beginning of this session that those involved in political discourse have a responsibility to engage in meaningful debate and do so in a way that does not tear down our country or each other," she wrote. "I am once again calling for all citizens to make their voices heard and participate in this debate peacefully."
Hopefully, Rep. Shilling in other forums has condoned or encouraged violent rhetoric.
Nice quote about Quebecois. I always asked my FC friends where their army was, where their navy was, where their mint was. Conversations over.
"Heh and sociology depts should be be the first to go at our overpriced universities."
Seriously, I think that student loans should be limited to science and math majors. The original purpose of the government student loan program was national defense and they were called National Defense Student Loans. I applied for one when I got out of the Air Force and was turned down because my major was pre-med.
Michael:
We should just give the money or grant to every high school grad to use as they see fit. Drugs, booze, new car, college tuition who cares- at least the money will go to an efficient seller of drugs, booze, cars, college eductaion. As opposed to today where we limit its use to college and so the cost of college gets inflated and too many people go to college.
An aside at the link mentions thatBen Masel has lung cancer.
"He doesn't have health insurance and hasn't had a conventional job in a long time. But he has a history of winning false arrest and First Amendment lawsuits, "which is a great hourly rate if you can wait forever to get paid," he joked."
I am not from Madison, so I only noticed the name, Ben Masel, because of the great class he showed in the first Shankman post. But from what I read of him class seems to be character.
My best wishes, Mr. Masel.
Didn't you and Meade comply with Shankman's option #2 when you went to Governor Nelson State Park?
You're in the clear now!
Poor Mr Masel. Should he read this, best wishes and prayers.
From the article Henry linked to:
Masel, who was born in the Bronx and grew up in New Jersey, moved to Madison in 1971. He first smoked marijuana at age 14, cigarettes at 15.
He's still getting high, he said, but not as much from smoking marijuana. He has found other ways to ingest it, like vaporizing it, mixing it in an alcohol tincture and putting it in butter extract.
But...I thought pot was supposed to good for you?
Maguro, sounds like he's an addict. How else can you explain freebasing butter-tasting weed?
The Left's rhetoric hasn't changed in 80 years, so this surprises us, why?
I can trace some of the smugness to at least the French revolution--the Marquis de Condorcet not only disagreeing with Malthus, but doubting the inhumanity of the man, that kind of thing.
